Some people have a hard time getting into the older Ultraman shows, I have no reason why, but they do. It maybe the funky clothes, people just want to repress the evil thoughts of the 60's and 70's. I, for one, like seeing those funky graphics and moves, along with some impressive stories. But I think it's hard for non-Ultraman fans to swallow some of the shows, but there are a few that are very easy to get through.

UltraSeven Japan's favorite Ultraman, has returned more than any other Ultraman, has been giving several movies, a new series and tons of merchandise. But the key to his fame lays in his original series. His series was darker than the original one, struggling with corrupt aliens and the wrongful doings of humans.

This series is easily one of the best Ultraman series; it has everything from decapitation to human drama. Though, some may be turned away from this series, because this Ultraman series is heavy on the alien invasion or take over. But the action always stays hot to keep you interested.

Ultraman Towards the Future or just Ultraman Great The first series to be shot entirely in English and my favorite of all Ultraman series. It might not be the strongest series, but it packs a punch from the beginning with my favorite kaiju, Gudis taking over the show, infecting whatever organism or god, it can touch. Also, Some great human drama along the way, with old friends returning and lovers being infected.

Though, I have to say the second half of this series, after Gudis is finally defeated, is less engaging, but still kept me interested. The second half deals with more earthly Kaiju were we get to see some great stories and characters emerge.

Overall, the easiest Ultraman show for a non-watcher to get into. Simply because it's in English and is a lot shorter than the other series, only 13 episodes opposed to 49 or 50+ shows.

From my own experience, I am saying that these two are the easiest ones for a non-watcher to get into. The others may scare them away, like Taro's haughtiness of being the best could turn some away, even me. Or Ultraman Powered's slow, slow fights that are all, but impressive.

I've yet to see either considering neither are really available in the US as to my knowledge.

I'd love to see Ultraseven get a region 1 DVD set release, though!  I'm sure whoever released that would be rollin' in cash, considering its massive following!!

Well, I'm new to this great series, so please show mercy.

Ultraman Tiga: Thus far, this is the only real series I've shown a lot of interest in. Not because Rena is hot--well actually that is one of the reasons--but the action and drama is just so well done. Sure, the characters aren't perfect, but they get the job done.

Ultraman Tiga just plain rocks. It seems as if anyone, according to this series, could become Ultraman Tiga. The Light of the Giant's power truly can help such a torn mind come to grips with reality and be alive again.

The monsters just rock. Even if the final villain, Gatanozoa, seems a lot like Gudis, it well...I haven't seen it in action yet...but I look forward to it.

Now, Ultraman Tiga vs. GMK Godzilla would just plain rock.  http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I myself grew up in the early 70's with the original 1966 Ultraman, and have loved it ever since, and this is going to be my 39th year on this planet and I STILL love it. *

My fave episode, just for being weird, was "Human Specimens 5 And 6" with Dada-as a kid, that thing scared me, it looked so demented! And that heartbeat sound added to the fright. A head of straight hair would have made it look scarier instead of that one piece thing they had, it would have made it look like some sort of demented puppet.

Ultraseven was a cool show too-saw and taped all the episodes a few years back on TNT. Dig those powder blue suits the patrol wore! http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif  And it had the actor who played Lt. Arashi in Ultraman in it too. Can't go wrong with either show!

Ultraman seems interesting, and my borther used to watch the original ultraman when he was young, he said that was the best. He saw Tiga and told me it sucked, so what series of ultraman is the best? Because i was thinking of buying some ultraman DVd's over the summer.

It depends. Personally, I believe that the Ultraman Jack series is the best. One reason, a lot of kaiju get cut apart graphically, which is a must for kaiju gore-hounds such as myself. And the second reason, well, Snowgon.

But if you're a newbie to the Ultraman series, I'd say go for the original before moving on to the later, more violant series. Or you can give the Tiga series a try. Just be sure it's not the dubbed version. *http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Hoped that helped some.

I recommend the original series as it lays so much groundwork for what follows. Tiga is "the next generation" of Ultra heroes, you might say, again setting the stage for the series that follow. Also, the DVDs are readily available!  http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif  THE FINAL ODYSSEY film is an excellent complement to the Tiga series.
Do at least sample Ultra Seven for a look at the "human side" of the Ultra set-up. This is one of the more popular series and also has a number of newer movies about this particular Ultra.
Any others?

Well, there's another good series out there, if you like a little comedy thrown into the mixture. It is of course, the Taroh series. It might not have the most original kaiju designs, but it is fun to watch Taroh get his arse whooped by a monster or two, which occurs quite often. He also whines and pouts at times, which is also quite charming. However, it is filled with annoying Kennies, and can be quite childish at times. Don't know of anymore I can recommand, unless you want to take it a step further with the violence, which is available in the Leo series. Especially in episode three where two people get cut in two.  http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

Ultraman isn't like power rangers is it? Because I hope its not, i mean Power Rangers is just....GAY. Hopefully Ultraman is better then that with good action and stuff.

It's not, there friend. The heroes don't make any puns or silly remarks about the monsters, if that's what you are worried about.

The original is certainly the best. I would also recommend Ultraman Ace-- it had some of the greatest Ultra Kaiju ever [ read Ace Killer and Baraba ], and had a totally unique take on Ultraman. As for the shosw's Heisei era, well, I think Tiga is the best. Though the dubbed version is a #####. Like Ace, it also has an original take on Ultraman, in fact, it totally reinvents him as a whole. And there are also some great monsters there, chief among them Ghatanozoa.

Peace,
