How many millions of lawns, in America? How much gas wasted by mowing said lawns?

In light of Katrina, mow your lawn only once a month. This will both save gas AND help keep down fuel costs.

Let's do it!

No. WE don't just stop mowing lawns. You use either electric mowers, or the not motorized push mowers, that are just powered by you pushing.

But I doubt that is even going to happen. I plan to mow my lawn, as that is how I make money.

Eh, many communities have "weed ordinances", for everything from appearance sake to health concerns. The latter is especially applicable. It also takes more energy to tackle a seriously overgrown area than maintaining it. I would suggest RETARDING the growth by not watering it. At the same time, you save water! ;)

Uhh... not happening at my happy home because my dad is a stickler for the lawn being mowed and if you don't water well chances are it's going to be a lovely brown by the end of the month. Reducing lawn mowing isn't going to save the worlds problems, nor the problems with Katrina.

Hmmm, I know how to reduce gas usage on lawnmowers, mow your lawn with a Horse! The grass feeds the horse, and in turn the horse can provide transportation!

LOL

But I seriously doubt people are going to stop mowing there lawns. What might happen is people start taking the bus more or a train(here its the metrolink).

Ah yes. but the **** fertilizes the lawn, making the grass grow back more healthy and thick, providing more food for the horse.

NOTE: But you could not fully keep the horse fed on this. My suggestion is to buy lotsa haybales to feed to horse between grassmowings.

I use one and it still takes a lot of gas. Anyway, I don't care if I never cut my grass again... though I do some of my best brain storming while doing so...:p But in anycase, we've ben having a serious lack of rain fall in these here parts, so cutting grass even once a month has become odd...:look:

I gather Pug Puppy started this topic to encourage CONSERVING resources. Now, how about MARSHALING them?
Any creative and EFFECTIVE ideas for fund raisers, solving logistical problems, etc.? :)

Marshalling resources might be what some states are going to do, or at least do somthing to the gas prices. I believe last I heard that some states are debating whether to have a law that sets gas prices or not.

As for fundraising, I can't see anything that can be raised in that fashion that can be used to help with the energy problem.

Marshalling resources might be what some states are going to do, or at least do somthing to the gas prices.I was thinking more in the lines of disaster/emergency response, even though many of us approach it more as preparedness and mitigation. The gas price deal does impact many facets of modern life, yes. SHOULD it get to the point things did during a World War or NATIONAL crisis level impacting survival itself, then I could see rationing or other options being considered.I believe Hawaii MIGHT have considered price controls or some such intervention.
