Based in New York City (or New Jersey--somewhere in there), Troma has stood as THE independent movie studio for the 30-some years of its existence: They reflect true independence, never stooping as low as trying to cater to the braindead "mainstream" audiences or Cheesy Teenyboppers. What truly separates Troma from Hollywood is that none of their films feel like cardboard copies of each other: Troma movies are not written by a committee of money-grubbing suits & come off of production lines; they are created by people who truly love movies & the creation of movies & pour their hearts & souls into making them. Sure, the production values may be low, the effects chintzy, & the acting laughable (though it's gotten better in the past few years), but they've also got something truly special: Enthusiasm and heart. I believe that movies are, indeed, an art form, & Troma is 1 of the last refuges for people who share that belief, because they're not just making movies about toxic mutants, kabuki policemen, & women with chests the size of Ethiopia--they are making ART.
So what do you guys think of Troma?
