Well, this game is definately a first: the first Christian-themed high-caliber action game. I really do have to Marvel at the idea of this, I myself had thought of a game set after the Rapture...but a bloody action shooter with Christian morals behind it? And besides, why New York? Why not use Chicago (where alot of the series took place) or the fictional city of New Babylon where the antichrist did antichristly things?

But heres a list of things I want to see in the game

Jesus as a summon
A crucifix as a weapon
Scripture shouting pastors for squadmates
Bullets with Bible verses inscribed on them
Moses as an unlockable character
A bible tossing catapult for a weapon

Turns out Left Behind: Eternal Forces will be an RTS game. I still want Biblical characters for summons to aid my troops in battle though...

*Imagines Jesus, Moses, and King David leading a battle-charge into the Antichrist's army*

I demand that the Pope be a createable ' weapon '. And that Pope John Paul be a summon. I want to have Moses as a summon too, and his specail ability: Parting large portions of water...I WANT TO PART THE BLOODY ATLANTIC!

Guys, I was going through my newspapers a few days ago, May13 right now, when I saw an article on the Left Behind game. It was in the Los Angeles Times, if I can find it a link, I’ll get it. It stated that although there have been Christian themed games before, they were mostly sold only through Christian bookstores or on the web; they never made it to the mainstream. Why is very clear; even webpages about Christian videogames acknowledge it. They’re boring. They worry more about the Christian than the videogame and thus while you get a good teaching tool for the faith, you get very little in terms of game play. Even aside from that, for a game to present itself as a game for Christians by Christians, it makes the game seemingly arrogant, not to mention self righteous, confusing, and pretentious, to people outside the faith.

The article went on to state that the game designers admitted that the dialogue of the characters was somewhat corny. The mainstream design team stated that it planned to counter that by making it an action adventure shooter. You would play as a general leading your armies against the opposing side. That makes it somewhat odd, for example, you’re a general in a war but you are penalized if your troops kill people because killing is nominally bad, but since its in a good cause you’re cheered for it anyways . Various watchdog groups have noticed this and have lambasted the Left Behind game as just another example of video game violence. (These guys seemingly remember what Left Behind author Tim LeHaye doesn’t. “Turn the other cheek, do good to those who hurt you, blessed are the peacemakers.”*) In fact, you can also play as the opposing side, play as the Anti-Christ’s armies and lead the forces of Evil to destroy all things good and clean. I have a bad feeling that if this game does do well outside the conservative rightwing evangelical Christian circle, its will be chiefly be because people want to play the forces of evil since the Antichrist—who in the Left Behind universe is called Nicolae Carpathia, think Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars—has better lines (even LeHaye admits that), it should be easier to play on his side because I doubt that the forces of evil will be penalized for killing people, and people who hate the Left Behind series and what it represents will likely enjoy killing the Tribulation Force, the main “heroes” of the Left Behind series.

This leaves me worried. Until next time.

PS. The Link I was looking for is here. http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/la-fi-godgames10may10,1,5216746.story?ctrack=1&cset=true (http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/la-fi-godgames10may10,1,5216746.story?ctrack=1&cset=true)

*Christians outside the ultra fundamentalist circle can be somewhat suspicious of Left Behind. At least one person was so disturbed, that he wrote an alternate version called “Survivors: You’d be surprised who gets Left Behind.” I should now, I have a copy of that underground book.

^Play as the Antichrist's armies?! To hell with the Bible thumping Tribulation Force, I'll take Carpathia's loyal army of mindless Christian-killing goons! :p

If the Christians want to make a game that will be fun and give a message at the same time, why not make a game based on the life of that horned Hebrew warlord Moses? Melee combat with the staff and the 10 Plagues of Egypt as Special Powers... :darklord:
