I was part of the Godzilla Palace Message Board for a long while back in the day. Now it came to a point where the site wasn't updated very often, the message board still worked but the site wasn't touched. Soon the webmaster disappeared, we still had our moderators and Administrators but the main guy wasn't there. Eventually it came to the point after a barrage of hackers that the site went down and forums went along with it.

Now the reason for this story is that I'm worried that the same thing might happen to The Kaijuphiles.

As long as the forum leaders have strong, lengthily passwords, I wouldn't worry. Usually, hackers try and guess the person's password. Trust me, I know. I have had to protect my forum from that crap before.

I wouldn't see the point in any hacker trying to break in and if they did, Brandon is enough of a wiz to get control and then send all the hackers a computer virus that is the equivalent to the hanta virus.

That is more comforting but I'm not really concerned with hackers they were just one thing in the slow death of the forum and site. What I'm concerned about is that slowly this forum and site will die off and dissappear like what happened to Godzilla Palace.

Nothing ever really lasts forever you know... it's sad but true.

Goji Son is right, but still, as long as the members stay true to the site, it may never die.

Godzilla fandom seems to have invented some bizarre, twisted view of "hacking" recently. The truth of the matter is that a couple of computer-illiterate teenagers are guessing the passwords of members foolish enough to use "godzilla" or "mothra". It isn't hacking, and if people would simply use GOOD password choices it wouldn't even be an issue.

Never use real words. Use a combination of numers and letters in different case. e.g. ap1hF1n2. Or if you must use a real word, try making it UNRELATED to the forum you're registering with.

That is what I told my members to do, and it has been successful. So what JB just said is very truthful and good advice. These obvious hackers probably have nothing better to do with their lives so they purposly go and try to hack forums. The positions you absolutely don't want them to hack is your admins or mods.

Hackers aside, there are bound to be a little ebb and flow to the activity on the site. right now, everyone's got a finalwars/kong hangover because gamera hasnt quite hit the us yet (hair of the kaiju?)...and even though the stereotype would label us as shut-ins, it IS spring, so its likely some folks just got more going on away from the forums till they shake off their cabin fever. oOooh, the'll come crawling back... the light, it burns!

Thats what my little brother, Mighty Minya did by accident. He put Minya was his password, and i was pretty hard to guess that would be his password :sarcasm: . He changed it though.

Like mrdang said, people are just getting bussier with the spring here and summer right around the corner. Besides that, It's been two years since GFW first came out, and Kong has come and went, and we just aren't getting a ton of info about this new Gamera like we would with any other G-film. Hence, boredom sets in, and people run out of things to talk about. Actually, while on that subject, you must consider that this forum has been around for several years and has had thusands of members pass through. To be realistic, there isn't much left to talk about. With the lack of new kaiju eiga info, we've gone through every thread based game, "what if" topics, monster battle combinations, fan-fics, debates and just plan old conversation--so much so that some have started bringing old threads, subjects, games and debates back to life (whether aware of the old ones or not). Of course, that's not to say this wondreful place we call home has grown old, served its perpose, and in need of 'for sale' sign--quite the opposite! But the fact that everyone has gotten really busy lately and spending more time else where then at the forums (like myself) doesn't help it any. Every website has it's ups and downs, just like the fandom itself. Don't worry, by 2013, this place will be crawling with people.;)

I'm not concerned about the fandom, but the site itself.

Yea. The fandom will never die, and as long as there is a fandom, there will always be a Godzilla forum to come visit. Heck maybe in 10 years this site will still be around, who knows.

Aside from two hijacking problems. (The news post and an index upload to were you couldn't see the content of a private part of the site) I'm pretty sure that Godzilla Palace went down due to Andy not paying the bills, which I can safely assume isn't a problem for Kaijuphile.

Changing passwords regularly lets you stay a step ahead of hackers certain information is almost always useless if it’s out of date.
