i was just doing a little research on Iron Maiden...while i love all rock im mostly into newer stuff such as korn and disturbed...but maiden is just unbelievably awesome and rock gods to boot.....but thats besides the point.

i stumbled upon a cover of fear of the dark by cradle of filth. now im not a COF fan...at all...in fact i hate their "hey you play while i try to scream as stupid as i possibly can..because im trying to sound like satan and hes kool" attitude. but i figured that that song is just SOOOO good they couldnt possibly screw it up right? wrong!!!!!!!!!!!

its the most godawful raping of a song ive ever heard. i dont know who told cradle of filth that they were real musicians and could deficate on something so awesome as iron maidens fear of the dark but they should all be shot repeatedly.

your a bunch of losers who try to be all evil and act like "satan iz kewl!111!!" but your really just stupid...you have no talent and should be put to death by the most painful means possible.

you arent kool, your music sucks and satan himself probably thinks your a bunch of retards who attempt to fly the flag of rock and have a following of people who are sadly, far more brain dead than you are for even considering listening to you. i can sing like that too except i would have to consume far more drugs than you can imagine to ever want to.

like the post says i think bands should have to fill out an application to cover an iron maiden song.

(edit: yes i know iron maiden mentions satan in some of their songs. but they dont go out of their way to be evil...which is exactly what i feel bands like COF, and six feet under do)

I hear ya. I don't know how they call it rock or music period if it just sounds like a bulimic person trying to puke up their guts. The bands that think they're so hardcore because they talk about satan in all their songs are morons. It's all image that they're trying to sell, not music.

COF covered "Hallowed by thy Name" too. That is one of my favorite songs. Period. It is one of the few longer songs that keep my disgraceful attention span captivated throughout its whole seven + minute run. Hearing it's powerful lyrics shrieked by some skinny punks who don't really have musical talent but just like to scream and make noise with their instruments made me wanna puke. I agree with you one hundred percent, ReaperGoji.

That's ok, Perfect Circle covered "When the Levee Breaks" by Led Zeppelin, took out the guitar, replaced it with a piano, completely took out the harmonica and left the drum piece alone... it was terrible.

But it's not like they are destroying the song, they are just adapting it to their style even if it is terrible, the original song will always be around.

i probably overreacted a bit. but god sometimes its like...paying tribute is one thing but sometimes its best to leave a classic alone without adapting it to their own $*$%^& style. i remember a certain monster movie when it was remade with no respect for the greatness of the original a lot of ppl threw a fit too lol.

I dunno for sure who its by, but its not Cradle.

And I am not brain dead!

First off a have to say that a black/death/whatever-you-want- to-call-it-metal should not cover a song that is not black/death/whatever-you-want-to-call-it-metal. It hardly ever works out. I have yet hear a good one.

But I have to say that Cradle of Filth have some very talented musicians. The guitarists are very good and the keyboardist (from Nymphetamine) is very talented. I also like the drummers work. But of course I have only listened to Thornography and Nymphetamine. I don't know about their earlier stuff but I liked those two CDs. And this is just my opinion of course. Emperor is right however. CoF didn't cover the song. Don't know why people credit it to them.

Cradle Of Filth is a pretentious goth band, that parade around lavish homoerotic outfits. They aren't even a true Black Metal band. Maiden rules, always has, always will, Dani Filth should kill himself and his troupe of vapid fans. It'll save true metal fans from the utter tripe he calls music.

Another sickening cover - Aiden did White Wedding......someone axe murder those sniveling emo brats.

Now, I LOVE Murderdoll's cover. But that's about the only thing they've ever gotten right, their own songs are COF-esque.

While I am a huge metal fan and have been for the past 32 years, I tend not to like Death/Black/Doom Metal type bands, mainly because I like to be able to hear and understand the lyrics that are being sung. But to say that these bands should not cover other bands is wrong because some of them are extremely talented and have excellent singers when they are not trying to garbble everything they say. You want an excellent example of this check out Shadows Fall cover of Pink Floyds "Welcome To The Machine" simply an amazing cover, it's on the album "The Art Of Balance."

I whole-heartedly agree that only the best should be able to touch a Maiden song. They are an unbelievable talent and have produced and insane number of songs that are nothing but pure rock greatness.

However, I also believe that pretty much no band that came out after 1995 should be allowed to remake any song ever, period. *shrugs*

God no, your probably basing this on the "American" music scene which is so utterly pathetic its sad. Look outside the US to find good music, there are a lot of really excellent bands that have come out since 1995, there just not here.

But if you want a really good band to listen to that is American, find a copy of "Capture The Magic" by Icarus Witch, they are really REALLY good. they also have an EP called "Roses on White Lace" and cover the Alice Cooper song of the same name on the EP.

Couple things..

1. I agree, Dani Filth is a horrible "Singer" (and I use that term loosely)
2. However, the rest of the band is extremely skilled.
3. I thought that was an excellent cover, and this is coming from someone who basically cannot stand listening toCradle and thought they butchered almost every cover they've done.
4. It IS done by them, an official release from that Lovecraft album (forget the name)
5. Saying a band should only stick to it's genre when doing covers is the absolute dumbest thing I've ever heard. A cover is to pay tribute to a good song/good band while putting your own unique touches to it, not make it sound like a clone of it. If fans wanted to hear Hallowed Be Thy Name like Maiden did it, they can buy Number Of The Beast.
6. Too many bands cover Maiden, however, I really love hearing Hallowed Be Thy Name covers, and Bodom's Aces High cover rules. (Check out Iced Earth's Cover of Hallowed Be Thy Name, pretty damn good)
7. I'm not going to go on.

EDIT: Nevermind, I didn't notice you were talking ab out Fear of the Dark, It hought you were still referring to Hallowed Be Thy Name

Random intergection here, but Coheed and Cambria did a very good cover of The Trooper, so it goes to show that not every one sucks at Maiden covers.
