"Kevin" (nitesho@AOL.COM) on the CREATURE FEATURES (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CreatureFeatures/) list works with a video company that asked him to check the responses to the following queries:

How many people on this board are Jess Franco fans?
Do you prefer his earlier or later films?
Would you buy his films if they were subtitled rather than dubbed?

It was mentioned that a definitive release of El Conde Dracula and the Demons (among others) are fan favorites. As for language tracks, apparently it was a common practice in Europe not to record sound during filming. Dialogue and special effects sounds were dubbed later. As a result, sometimes the actors were not available for dubbing and others would do their voices.  For example, it has been reported that even if you got Spanish language versions of Paul (Jacinto Molina) Naschy's Daninsky films, someone else did his voice.
Often, the English dubbing is atrocious and not faithful to the story.

Jess Franco ... it amazes me that a talentless hack like that even has "fans."  I wouldn't waste my time watching another one of his movies if it was free.

Sadly, I have to support that sentiment, most of Franco's films are really bad. The exception would have to be 'Count Dracula', which is one that I would buy in a heartbeat. So far as subtitled vs dubbed goes, I'd prefer the English language version since the main principals in the movie, Christopher Lee and Herbert Lom did their own voices for the English version.

If you enjoy ANY of his work, check out GRITOS EN LA NOCHE (THE AWFUL DR. ORLOF), THE DIABOLICAL DOCTOR Z, THE SADIST OF NOTRE DAME and
LOVES OF IRINA. There are surprisingly many Franco DVDs at Best Buy, Borders, Suncoast, etc. with more on the way. AWFUL DR ORLOFF can be had for about $10 so!

Some titles still looking for positive feedback:
WHITE CANNIBAL QUEEN
In this vein, Aldo Lado and NIGHT TRAIN MURDERS also came up for the "stinker" list.

<font color='#FF0000'>He was a sick perv so my mum says, my Dad likes his movies but to me he was odd little man.But Count Dracula starring Christopher LEE , Herbert Lom and Klause Kinski! all good actors. But his films don't deserve to see the light of day.
