<font color='#32CD32'>Haven't they been making this kind of game for a while, now? I think it was called &quot;Castlevania.&quot;

RadoGoji

<font color='#32CD32'>Here's part of a blog entry I made today about how I think the Van Helsing game looks too similar to Castlevania.

Quote[/b] ]I saw a commercial for a Van Helsing video game. Now this is peculiar. The movie itself was a bit close to the Castlevania game series as it was, and now it makes a game of its own? I find that a little superfluous. From what I saw, it looks similar to the N64 Castlevania, except they replaced Reinhart Schnieder with Hugh Jackman and the Vampire Killer whip with spinning blades. Fight Dracula, Frankenstein and Wolfman, you say? Castlevania did that. Hell, I saw Van Helsing fighting a skeleton in the game, which is something that Castlevania has done in abundance. Now, I'm not saying that this is an absolute blatant ripoff, since there are some noticable differences, but I wouldn't be surprised if Van whipped a candlabra and a dagger came out, then he threw a bunch of daggers at skeletons, which costed 1 heart a dagger. I mean, Jet Jaguar was going to be in Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee at first, but the company that made it got threatened with legal action by the Ultraman people, because JJ looks a lot like Ultraman (I think this happened a couple of times to Toho when they were trying to revive JJ). I'm surprised that Konami hasn't threatening the Van Helsing people with legal action, because Van Helsing, whip or not, acts a lot like Simon Belmont (even though Simon Belmont could easily kick Van Helsing's ***, or so says Greg). All in all, I think that Konami's gonna have a field day with this franchise...

Now that I've said all that, I just want to clear up that I don't think the game looks bad at all, and that I'll more than likely try it out. http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

O yea, i saw the commercial for it today, and it looks awsome. Heihechi is dead, now that kinda got me a bit mad because heihechi was one of the best in the games. But there's three new characters. There's Raven, fei wei, and asuumi Kazama. I'm guessing that Asumi is jin's kid, seeing that her last name is Kazama and that Jin and Xiou liked eachother. Anyways, it's coming to arcades sometime in 2004 and PS2 and maybe opther game consoles in 2005. The commercial wasn't on T.V. I was at the arcade, they were doing it with some music videos and the AVP trailers(that movie looks awsome too...GO PREDS)

In this game you can make your own monsters. Its awesome. You have these ways to design it. In Nintendo Power they showed a Optimus Prime they had made in the game. They had some others I can't remember right now. It looks like a great game though.

Happy 500th post yay

Well the June issue of OXM arrived in my PO Box today and I saw some games I'm looking forward to.

Evil Dead: Regeneration
With a little help from Evil Dead movie magnet Sam Raimi, Regeneration picks up where the Evil Dead II movie leaves off. Wise-cracking Ash finds himself trapped in Sunny Meadows, an insane asylum where the evil Deadites flourish. With a three-foot tall Deadite as his sidekick, Ash can wield everything from chainsaws to shotguns (or both).

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks
Not content to keep the Mortal Kombat franchise strictly in a fighting-game box with Shaolin Monks, Midway's attempting to go the route of Ninja Gaiden by incorporating the series' trademark fighting engine in a brand-new environment - the 3-D action/adventure one. Think of your journay as a giant "what if?" story arc that takes off during the criss-crossing plotlines of Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat 2. This is your chance to navigate the dangerous Outworld as both Liu Kang and Kung Lao, using their moves in ways you never thought you could. The game combines nonstop battling in some areas, platforming skills in others; and you'll also be able to join up with a friend - a co-op is highly encouraged.

Hitman: Blood Money
Well, I've never played any of the other Hitman games before, but they looked interesting. I just never got around to renting one of them, and me being broke nearly all the time doesn't help the situation ;_; So anyways, this installment in the Hitman series is described to be better than Contracts. The things you can do sound interesting, and I look forward to at least renting this game..

Battlefield 2 Modern Combat
Battlefield 2 is taking its sweet time coming, but the original's developer, DICE, is at the helm of the multiplayer segments, while EA UK is creating the single player content - and both seem to be coming together rather willingly. Even with a sandbox environment giving yoiu a good degree of freedom and a bevy of vehicles and weapponry in single-player, the multiplayer is where it's definately at as you scuffle for control of bases on well-designed maps.
(this game I've been looking forward to for a couple months, actually. Pending on whether I get it for X Box or PC, but so far it's looking like X Box)

A new Ed game for the PS2, NGC and XBOX. There was a GBA game. Since this is not going to be released for sometime, and since I brought it up so early, There is no Package art, release date, developer info or even screenshots for this one. An Ed game is just what I've been looking for lately. Hopefully, its gonna fit in the Ed's world and be a fun one to play.

Nintendo sinks 80% losses, man that's huge. But even more amazing is that X-Box and PS2 did even worse. Apparently in the past months, while Nintendo's drop certainly is terrible, it is the only company to have actually made money, Sony and Microsoft reported only losses.

This doesn't surprise me too much though, with all the hype of the upcoming systems now. This is to be expected, really, though maybe not in the extent.

Glad to hear Nintendo did the best though, and as far as the major loss goes, I'm not too concerned really as a fan. More DS's are coming to America, and now they're bringing out a swarm of awesome games, I expect DS to continue dominating in its category. Even more, Gamecube's gonna certainly bring in some major bucks for Nintendo before Revo comes out. The new Fire Emblem game for it is due mid-October, and then somewhere around November 14th Twilight Princess arrives.

Man, you wanna talk about going out with a bang

Well, PS2 is comming out with some heavy hitters as well. Soul Calibur 3 in fall, then Final Fantasy 12 and Kingdom Hearts 2 are comming out in December as of now. What does X-Box have? Squat! BURN YOU INFERNAL SYSTEM!:darklord:

MirrenDono

^ Yeah PS2 really does seem to be bringing out some major stuff before it goes out as well, Gamecube doing the same. But come on Orga, who wants to play all that stuff for PS2 when Gamecube's got Mario Baseball coming out August 29th?

And funny what you say about X-Box, because it's currently *and has been for a while* been in last place in the console wars. It's actually doing quite badly outside of North America, where it's really the only place it's done well in. Europe was horrible for it for years, and now is finally starting to take it in, Australia was only nuetral ground for the systems, and in Asia it's being dominated. No surprise though, X-Box is marketed mainly for the American/North American fandom.

Though, it makes me laugh, because Gamecube doesn't even have online gaming and it's still beating it ;)

Worldwide, PS2 is in first of course, Gamecube is actually doing well in a solid second, and X-Box is in third due to the low appeal outside of North America.

And DS also continues to thrive

Don't forget the PSP. In a few months especally when Christmas hits and the price drops, people are going to be buying that sleek machine up off the shelves.

rodanguirus

The fact that Nintendo's still in the "Big Three" at all, let alone second, speaks very well of it. I mean, Nintendo is a video game making company. Sony and Microsoft are enormous, multimedia corporations. They're bound to have advantages in the accessory department, what with DVDs and online. And now it looks like Nintendo may be in trouble on the handheld front with the PSP out. I mean, Nintendo has dominated the handheld front since the original "brick" Game Boy! Still, I think they'll continue to hold out and be a major player.
Sigh, I remember the times when all a Nintendo fan had to worry about was the Genesis and their blue hedgehog.

MirrenDono
August 1st, 2005, 01:40 PM
^ Thankfully Nintendo's finally following up Sony and Microsoft by making Revolution be able to play DVDs and have free, wireless, out-of-the box online gaming.

Can you say Super Smash Bros. Online!?

And as far as handheld gaming goes, Nintendo is actually beating out Sony. DS was reported to be the most popular item last Christmas, and since then it's been doing better in sales than PSP. Now Nintendo is shipping over a million more here to America to try and regain some thunder after their terrible quarterly sales, and they're starting to come out with games that have really caught the world's attention. Even more they're working on the Wi-Fi connection for DS, but I haven't been following that all too much.

PSP will do better for sure than it did in the last few months, especially if the price drops. That was what really busted them up for it, it really wasn't worth it unless you could buy all the upgrades, and many people couldn't due to the high price of it.

Orga777
August 1st, 2005, 01:44 PM
^That is correct. But you have to admit, that it is on sleek machine. Once the price drops to around $150, that thing will be selling big time. I still think that the Gamboy Advanced SP is one of the best hand held systems to date. I think it is better than the DS, not to mention cooler looking.

Bah, X-Box doesn't surprise me. It offers nothing impressive.
What we need is an Apple system. Until then, it's between Sony and Nintendo to impress the consumer.

Because we don't all have the money to purchase them all.
So we hope that one drives the other 2 out, so that all games move to that one.
Now, we know that this is unlikely, so we hope for one to get thrown out.
The X-Box offers the least bang for the buck, so we hope for that one's demise.

Hurray, let's all flame the Xbox, how original. Why not bash Halo while we're at it. :sarcasm:

I hate to get off topic but I have no freakin idea why people bash the machine. I mean if you bash the PS2 or GCN its all "oooh no, heratic, you must burn!" But bash the Xbox and you somehow become accepted into the gamer bandwagon. Seriously folks, how can you and more importantly, WHY have hatred for a video gaming system?

Look, don't get me wrong the PS2 and GCN are great systems, heck I own a GCN and have access to a PS2 due to friends. I have NOTHING against either system, but for this generation I just have enjoyed the Xbox more and unlike some people have stated has given this individual "more bang for the buck." Heck, the infamous Halo got me loving video games all over again.

First of all, they just explained why they have hatred for x-box. 2nd of all Ever since x-box came out, people have been saying that nintendo was "kiddy", sointendo lovers hate it. And 3rd Halo may have been a great game but all the other x-box only games sucked, even Halo 2.

^ Meh, I can't say that Halo 2's bad. I'm not a big fan of the story mode *kinda short for something so hyped up* but the multiplayer is indeed awesome

But yes, one reason why the Nintendo fandom hates X-Box is due to some of the disrespectful, and overall ignorant remarks their officials have made about Nintendo. The biggest one by Robbie Bach * Microsoft's chief Xbox officer and senior vice president* which caused the release of information about Revo, and ownage of him-

"Nintendo is good and cute...and there's nothing wrong with that. They'll be a competitor, but in a different category almost. I don't think they have the same ambition that either Sony or Microsoft does in the more mainstream interactive entertainment space."

Megabyte

Eh, touche' MD, but I just wasn't up to throwing in cheap shots since at any systems since it would be extremely hypocritical to scream "NINTENDO IS 4 TEH KITTES!1!1" and then go play Metorid: Zero Mission on my GBA.

I guess its somewhat understandable why some in the Nintendo fandom don't like some of the MS exce's comments, but with that kind of logic I should hate the Playstation 2 since many of their excutives have made cheap shots left and right at Microsoft at the drop of a hat. And noticed how quiet they've become after the sale figures came out for the DS and PSP? And I should LOATHE EA games because it has literally dissed everyone from each of the current consoles to Sega to the upcoming Revolution. And that is just logic I just can not abide by since I found it implasuable to hate a system unless it has broken down on me numerous times or has attempted to strangle me in my sleep. :susp:

Besides, if you haven't noticed taking shots at opposing compaines is just a major part of these guys' sales plan which is extremely sad since you would think creating a good system and games would be the MAIN part . :hmmm:

Why, because they're setting the release date of their most popular franchise to coincide with the release fo their biggest competitor's new console? You make it sound like sony wouldn't do the exact same thing if things were reversed.

Hopefully this'll be a sign of things to come in all court cases to stop violent video games completely

Studio Asperger
December 5th, 2005, 04:07 PM
So let me see if I've understood this right...

On the one hand, it's yet another case of a group overreacting to the violence and adult content in games.

On the other hand though, a law has been overturned that was not too disimilar to the system we currently have in the UK (where our games are rated by the same government body that rates our movies, making it AGAINST THE LAW for retailers to sell them to minors) which has served us well for god-knows-how-long because it's 'unconstitutional'?

Seriously, America, just get your games legislated. It's not 'unconstitutional' or gagging 'freedom of speech' (since the law didn't propose censorship or outright banning) - it's just common bloody sense to ensure minors can't easily get their hands on material that's not suitable for them. Legislation also means that hopefully nutcases like Jack Thompson will shut up.:hmmm:

Also, the vast majority of replies on that site make me want to puke. It's small wonder gaming has such a bad image attached to it.

MirrenDono

I mean that I hope more court cases that try to completely eradicate violent video games (like Jack's) end in a similar way

The trouble is this proposed law wasn't trying to eradicate violent videogames, just wanting to make it illegal to sell them to minors, which is the same system we use here.

I understand the frustration about such court cases wanting to 'ban these evil games' (like Mr. Thompson's), but this wasn't the case this time from what I understand of it.

MirrenDono
December 5th, 2005, 05:18 PM
I know what this case was about, I was just speaking about more radical ones, of course

But yeah, I don't see why minors should have those games sold to them. I mean, if you're 14 and under it's more understandable, but rea children (like, age seven and such) shouldn't be allowed to buy them by themselves. I could've sworn that was an irrefutable law already, because I remember seeing my brother have to get ID'd when he bought an M game (of course, he qualified for it)

Okay, fair enough. We're on the same 'wavelength' then, I believe the term is.

Here's something else that has really pissed me off;

With regards to his new game, rapper (and now total f**kface, in my opinion) 50 Cent didn't say that kids shouldn't be playing his game (it's rated 18 here, which is more-or-less the equivalent of Adults Only), he actually said kids should go out and buy this game (or get parents to buy it for them), and parents should 'explain' the violent acts in it.

You know what would be even better, 50 Cent, you self-obsessed retard?! NOT TO LET KIDS PLAY THE GAME AT ALL! Seriously, what kind of irresponsible little s**t is he if he says things like this, and what kind of moronic parents would let their kids play his game which is not suitable for them?!

Jesus... Bet the game itself is utter pants as well.

I hate Hilery Clinton and these stupid groups who do this crap. So they want to limit games to minors huh? So what are the parents doing then? They have to be 18 or older to buy an M rated game right, so blame the stupid parents. Damn morons that don't see this. The same thing happened with GTA, and it will come up again. Somebody should state the obvious and blame the damn parents for what THEY give their kids.

It absolutely sucks, and I've yet to find a good review for it (this is in quality of the game, not morality or anything)
