This thread is for people to post quotes that hold a large meaning in their life and/or quotes that they have created. This one holds a very big meaning in my life:
"The scope of the mind is unlimited, it can reach where arms can't, through any barrier." -Moll, Rebirth of Mothra 3
(I love that quote) ^
This is one I came up with a few minutes ago while role playing with my friend Sahra:
"Our friendship shall be like the sun and the moon that share the Earthen sky above, and the stars that sparkle in its celestial midst." -Donny (Me) :)
How about your guys'?:)

Both are very nice and beautiful quotes. I have a couple of quotes (though none of my own) that I find to have meaning:
"Every artist was first an amateur." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
"The power of imagination makes us infinite." - John Muir
"For hope is but the dream of those that wake." - Matthew Prior

Wow, those quotes bear a lot of meaning. Espeically the first and second ones in my case! :)

Yes, they do bear much meaning. Being an artist, I look at that and see how far I have come from stick figures! lol. :)

For me, it is writing and music, since they are both art. I have come a very long way in those two artistic fields lol.

Too many times we stand aside
And let the water slip away
'Till what we put off 'til tomorrow
Has now become today.
So don't you stand upon the shoreline
And say you're satisfied...
Choose to chance the rapids
And dare to dance the tides.
- "The River" by Garth Brooks.

Yeah, it's a beautiful ballad. It's on my list of get-off-your-butt-and-do-something songs that I play when writer's block sets in.
Here's the full lyrics:
You know a dream is like a river
Ever changin' as it flows
And a dreamer's just a vessel
That must follow where it goes
Trying to learn from what's behind you
And never knowing what's in store
Makes each day a constant battle
Just to stay between the shores.
(chorus)
And I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry.
Too many times we stand aside
And let the waters slip away
'Til what we put off 'til tomorrow
Has now become today
So don't you sit upon the shoreline
And say you're satisfied
Choose to chance the rapids
And dare to dance the tide.
*chorus*
And there's bound to be rough waters
And I know I'll take some falls
But with the good Lord as my captain
I can make it through them all.
*chorus*
Yes, I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
'Til the river runs dry

My subject enlarges itself, becomes methodized and defined, and the whole, though it be long, stands almost complete and finished in my mind, so that I can survey it, like a fine picture or a beautiful statue, at a glance. Nor do I hear in my imagination the parts successively, but I hear them, as it were, all at once. What a delight this is! All this inventing, this producing, takes place in a pleasing, lively dream. - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
No one knows how I feel, what I say unless you read between my lines. - Stevie Nicks, "Stand Back"
Timeless is the creature who is wise, and timeless is the prisoner in disguise. - Stevie Nicks, "Beauty and the Beast"

God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we, murderers of all murderers, console ourselves? That which was the holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet possessed has bled to death under our knives. Who will wipe this blood off us? With what water could we purify ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we need to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we not ourselves become gods simply to be worthy of it?
- Friedrich Nietzsche
Before people start flaming me for it, read its explanation here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_is_dead

From my current sig, but originally from the awesomeness that is Dune-
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
From Miyamoto Musashi's Book of Five Rings-
"No warrior should be willing to die with his swords at his side, without having made use of his tools."
"You should not have any special fondness for a particular weapon, or anything else, for that matter. Too much is the same as not enough."
"1. Think of what is right and true.
2. Practice and cultivate the science.
3. Become acquainted with the arts.
4. Know the principles of the crafts.
5. Understand the harm and the benefit in everything.
6. Learn to see everything accurately.
7. Become aware of what is not obvious.
8. Be careful even in small matters.
9. Do not do anything useless."
From Sun Tzu's Art of War
"All warfare is based on deception. Therefore, when capable, feign incapacity; when active, inactivity. When near, make it appear that you are far away; when far away, that you are near."
"Generally in war the best policy is to take a state intact; to ruinnit is inferior to this. To capture the enemy's army is better than to destroy it; to take intact a battalion, a company or a five-man squad is better than to destroy them. For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill."

This is a long one, but I love it- It is George Graham Vest's "Tribute to the Dog"
This speech was all Vest said when he acted in court on behalf of a man whose dog had been killed by another. He won the case.
"Gentlemen of the jury: The best friend a man has in the world may turn against him and become his enemy. His son or daughter that he has raised with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name may become traitors to their faith. The money that a man has, he may lose. It flies away from him, perhaps when he needs it most. A man's reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees and do us honor when success is with us, may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our heads.
The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog. A man's dog stands beside him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry wins blow and the snow drives fiercly, if only he may be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer; he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings, and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens.
If fortune drives the master forth an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him, to guard him against danger, to fight against his enemies. And when the last scene of all comes, and death takes his master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by the graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad, but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even in death."
A bit romanticized, but it has the ring of truth about it that I;ve always loved.

Oh man! There are so many quotes I love (and have forgotten) that I don't know where to start....
"The world meets nobody halfway. If you want something, you gotta take it. And you gotta do what's best for you...always."- Lincoln Hawk/Sylvester Stallone from Over the Top
"Your best days are not behind you, they are in front of you."- Joel Osteen

I sit here clutching useless lists,
keys for doors that don't exist
I crack my teeth on pearls
I tear into the history
Show me what it means to me in this world
Yeah, in this world
(Chorus)'Cause I am due for a miracle
I'm waiting for a sign
I'll stare straight into the sun
And I won't close my eyes
Till I understand or go blind(Chorus)
I see the parts but not the whole
I study saints and scholars both
No perfect plan unfurls
Do I trust my heart or just my mind
Why is truth so hard to find in this world
Yeah in this world
(Chorus)
I know that there's a point I've missed
A shrine or stone I haven't kissed
A scar that never graced my wrist
A mirror that hasn't met my fist
But I can't help feeling like I'm
Due for a miracle
I'm waiting for a sign
I'll stare straight into the sun
And I won't close my eyes
- "Stare at the Sun" by Thrice. Expect me to post more songs than short quotes. ;)

And when you think you know what you know
Then you find there's something else that you can't do
Right!
Go forward, step back yeah and I'll tell you when you got it
Yeah you got it, come on
Go forward, you can't hide yeah
Cause it's the end of everything, come on, come on (yeah)
What's between the head and the hand
Understand that the world is much different than me (yeah)
And when I think I see what I see
Then I find there's something else that I can be (hey, hey)

Go forward, you can't hide yeah
Cause it's the end of everything, come on, come on
Go forward, step back yeah and I'll tell you when you got it
Yeah you got it, come on
Go forward, you can't hide yeah
Cause it's the end of everything, come on, come on
I'm a punk, I'm king, I'm a coward
Full of promise and destiny
But you don't understand me anyway
You can run and hide and duck in the city
You can drag yourself all over the world
I'm a snake with the blood of electric
No need for conspiracy
'Cause you won't understand me anyway
Gonna laugh when the earth dies screaming
Gonna dance in the fire light
'Cause you won't understand me anyway
Stand up, sit down and turn around
Let's see what you're really made of
Take off your face and stay awhile
I'll turn your guts to mud
The sky is blue and the stars are bright
And the grass is always green
But all that you see
And all that you touch is never what is seems
All from various Powerman 5000 songs.
What destroys a man more quickly than to work, think and feel without inner necessity, without any deep personal desire, without pleasure--as a mere automaton of duty? That is the recipe for decadence, and no less for idiocy. . .

I find my favorite quotes in weird places:
"We do what we do because of who we are. If we did otherwise, we would not be ourselves." - Dream, from the Sandman. Or I guess, technically, Neil Gaiman, since he wrote the comic.
"I like being lonely sometimes. I like when it's all empty and there's a void left for me to fill. I like to create things to fill that void. Create something out of nothing. Create the world. It's the f*cking big bang, except it needn't be loud nor huge." - One of my favorite things ever, and I got it out of someone's LiveJournal entry, of all places.
"As creative entities, we look for signs of life outside ourselves, for a connection to...alleviate the sense of solitude. That's why we do what we do, whether we know it of ourselves or not." - 2D of Gorillaz, Rise of the Ogre
Also from Gorillaz:
"'Always be wary of people who use quotes.' I don't know who said that." - Murdoc Niccals, Rise of the Ogre.
And two favorites of mine, from the novel House of Leaves:
"Quick note here: if this crush-slash-swooning stuff is hard for you to stomach; if you've never had a similar experience, then you should come to grips with the fact that you've got a TV dinner for a heart and might want to consider climbing inside a microwave and turning it on high for at least an hour, which if you do consider only goes to show what kind of idiot you truly are because microwaves are way too small for anyone, let alone you, to climb into."
"What can I say, I'm a sucker for abandoned stuff, misplaced stuff, forgotten stuff, any old stuff which despite the light of progress and all that, still vanishes every day like shadows at noon, goings unheralded, passings unmourned, well, you get the drift."

Greater Love hath no man than this, to lay down his life for his friends.-Jesus
Here is my commandment, love one another as I have loved you.-Jesus
Woe to you hypocrites, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel.-Jesus again.
There is no escape — we pay for the violence of our ancestors.-Frank Herbert, Dune
There is probably no more terrible instance of enlightenment than the one in which you discover your father is a man — with human flesh.-Same as above
"It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known."-Charles Dickens
It is of the nature of desire not to be satisfied, and most men live only for the gratification of it.-Aristotle
Again, men in general desire the good, and not merely what their fathers had.-Aristotle
All men by nature desire to know. An indication of this is the delight we take in our senses; for even apart from their usefulness they are loved for themselves; and above all others the sense of sight. For not only with a view to action, but even when we are not going to do anything, we prefer sight to almost everything else. The reason is that this, most of all the senses, makes us know and brings to light many differences between things.-Aristotle
For my own part, regret nothing. Have lived life, free from compromise… and step into the shadow now without complaint.-Alan Moore, Watchmen
Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter — tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther... And one fine morning ——
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.-F. Scott Fitzgerald, the Great Gatsby
"A recognition that there is a bit of Torquemada in everyone should make us wary of any attempt to enforce a consensus or demonize those who challenge it."-John Brockman
"Normality is in the eye of the beholder." -Anonymous
The awfulness and the glory in being human, in laying claim not only to the great buildings, art, literature, and joys of the past, but also to the scourgings, witch burnings, library burnings, genocides, hatred and murder, that is what we who call ourselves human must face-Me.

Four more of my faves:
I, who stand alone, cannot do anything else but be true to myself. I face a world that would tell me my view of myself cannot be true, and so I must fight it, remaining, as always certain that what I do is right. I make no claims on moral superiority, nor on mental superiority. The world indeed will deny us what we seek. Yet I challenge myself, and all of you, to be true to yourself(ves) and to the Hells with what the world thinks.-One of my close acquaintances.
War, war, rumors of war. That's what faces us all. If not a war against actual enemies, with armies on the battlefield, then a war against shadows and our own people. The cowards who stand and call themselves men, who sit in comfort and safety, never once experiencing themselves what they have sentenced thousands to die in, are not men. The cowards who say they deserve to protect others, when said protection is not selfless, but merely a desire to enhance their own thrice-damned reputations, are also not men. Forever, the people I am referring to are at war, always with some enemy on whom they project themselves. Yet, in the final analysis, they are always going to be the ones who fail. Defining yourself by negation, as what the "filthy enemies" you claim to fight are not automatically sets yourself up to failure.-A person I know.
When the darkness comes to roost, there will always be some sort of light against it. Should the darkness win, the light will be seen as the mirror of the darkness, the victim of hate. Should the light win, the people who were on that side will become heroes. The question is: will the darkness or the light triumph? For our own sake, I hope it is the light.-Rachel, a friend of mine.
Out of One, many-my motto.
