This month, next week to be exact, Devil's Due will be putiing out its fourth entry to it's series of G.I. JOE Vs. THE TRANSFORMERS miniseries. In this latest entry written by Tim Seeley(G.I. JOE Vs. THE TRANSFORMERS III:THE ART OF WAR, HACK/slash, JESUS Vs. THE VAMPIRES) and art provided by longtime Transformers' artist , Andrew Wildman.
The story involves a plotline left dangling at the end of of the seconD Joe/Transformers joint where Dr. Mindbender was taken out of prision by two goverment agents. He was promptly escorted to Area 52, where the remains of various Decepticons, including Megatron, were collected and studied by the government. It was there that he found out the men in black weren't with our government, but the long lost kingdom of......COBRA-LA.
Yes , the much maligned civiliztion of beings whose technology was living and breathing as you or I from the animated flick that came out two decades ago. With both the the animated films of G.I. Joe and Transformers celebrating thier 20th anniversaries, this two issue mini(double sized issues for those who are worrying it will be too quick) also brings Corba-La's dark god, UNICRON, into the mix. Also the Joe team and Autobots have to deal with the Decepticon Bludgeon, and the Pretender Monsters.

Of all the things that should never have been brought back, Cobra-la is very high on the list.

^Well, considering that this story is outside the regular book's continuity, and last I checked no one is putting a gun to your head to buy it. Its nothing you should loose sleep over. Although rumor has it, Seeley might be including a cameo by another Hasbro property, that terrorized humanity in ancient times.

Now that would be cool. But Cobra-la? The most ridiculous thing (in an admittedly long list) that was ever done to the G I Joe franchise. Just thinking about the greatness of the Transformers movie and the laughability of the G I Joe one makes my soul hurt.

Suddenly this picture has all new meaning......

And every Transformer should fight a giant monster at least once. Now if only they had Dinobots......

Great art, but now I'm really annoyed. Why does that git Serpentor get changed into a Decepticon? Does shouting 'this I command' really work on the likes of Shockwave and Starscream?
Sorry, just an old ******* grumbling about how all the characters he hates keep getting make overs/revivals.

Looks like when no one was looking, there was a Battle of Cobra-La II.:cursing: Unfortunatly for us fans of the followers of Golobulus, it hasn't shown up in print as of yet. But we get to see the aftermath of the battle in the release of the G.I. Joe comic two-packs in the latest wave of figures. The book tells the tale of a cat and mouse game between Lt. Falcon and Nemesis Immortal !?!(why the Enforcer was dropped,I don't know) in the vien of PREDATOR. Written by the Godfather of G.I. Joe himself, Larry Hama. It's a pretty nasty fight as Falcon tries all sorts of methods to take out the vicious Enforcer of Cobra-La. You'll find the two pack at your toy store or one the numerous Wal-Marts in our fair country. Anywho you can check out a review for the two-pack it's figures ,and comic right over here.>http://www.generalsjoes.com/reviews/2008/anniversary/Comic_Packs/wave5/falcon_nemesis.html

Originally, the third entry of Devil's Due G.I. Joe Vs. The Transformers was supposed to involve Cobra-La. And to top it off, the artist collaborating with writer Tim Seeley on the project was uber-popular fan-favorite Transformer artist Don Figueroa on art detail. Despite some quite interesting idears the two submitted for it, Hasbro shot it down. Although Cobra-La and its crustacean clad denizens made their return in the G.I. Joe Vs. The Transformer IV:Black Horizons. The story went a bit different than Seeley's original concept for the project. And we can see some the original thanks to my stumbling across some of Figueroa's concept art for the project.
First off, in the tradition of the first Devil's Due Hasbro match up, where the Transformers inert forms were discovered in the Ark by Cobra before they were reactivated. Then with some ingenuity and coercion to Megatron, Cobra had figured out how to reactivate both the Autobots and Decepticons, and had them refitted into turning into Cobra vehicles. In Joe Vs. TF 3, we would've seen Optimus Prime transform into the G.I. Joe Rolling Thunder.

Then we've got Megatron now tranforming into the Iron Grenadier Dominator.

And now Part Two.
Also, with Unicron being involved in this crossover, Galvatron was not far behind. Unknown whether or not the version appearing in this unmade crossover was in fact a reformatted Megatron. Or like in the IDW books, or what Dreamwave was going for before their financial hijinks got them shut down, would've been a separate entity from Megs. But Unicron got some help from Cobra-La in pimping the crazy bloke out.

And wrapping up the shots is a cover featuring Galvs among his Cobra-La peeps.

Also a bonus. If Cobra-La had caught on. The Joe line would've had inevitably had more Cobra-La figures, and vehicles produced. Hell, there's still a line that extends around the block awaiting a Pythona figure. Hasbro produced a Big Lob figure for the love of Mike, but no Pythona. Anywho, here's a concept sketch of the COBRA-LA INSECTICYCLE. (http://www.yojoe.com/archive/unproduced/insecticycle.shtml)
