One thing that people tend to do is assume that everyone else is like us. I do it from time to time, and on many an occasion I've brought up some band or artist in a conversation about music, and I get blank faces in response.
So, what bands do you listen to and really like that no one else you know of listens to?
For me, it's a number of Myspace bands. I've found a large number of good ones...But I won't list them. Others include:
The Sound of Animals Fighting
Godspeed You Black Emperor!
Vaux
3
Institute
Bear Vs Shark
Team Sleep
Bones Domingo
Charlotte Hatherly (formerly lead guitarist of Ash)
Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton
And uhh, probably more than I'd like to list...I've not met anyone face-to-face who's ever heard of any of these groups...

There's a few bands I listen to I am unaware other people listen to.. but since you guys listed a few, I guess that takes them off the list since this the "no one else listens to" Thread, and quite clearly, you guys listen too. ;)
No one has listed Scar Symmetry.. so my list will start off with:
Scar Symmetry
Anorexia Nervosa
Hypocrisy
Katakylsm
Entombed
Amon Amarth
Shadows Fall
Still Remains
Soilwork
Haste The Day
I would include the band, Skinless, but their song "Tampon Lollipops" just turned the hell away from them. . . forever.

Entombed
Amon Amarth
Shadows Fall

Soilwork
Haste The Day
Not that I care much for the Death/Black/Doom metal bands but some of them are getting better. I listen to all of these bands, not often though with the exception of Shadows Fall since their drummer is from my home city and the best drummer out there right now. Katakylsm isn't to bad either, like quite a few of their songs.
But doesn't anyone actually listen more obscure bands?
Here is my list...
Icarus Witch (if your a metal fan and don't know who they are you should be shot).
KenZiner
Paradise Lost (These guys are somewhat well known).
Pyramaze
Thunderstone
Twelfth Gate
Wingdom
Winters Bane (Again somewhat well known, Tim "Ripper" Owens former band).
Pharaoh
Persuader
Pagan's Mind
Metalium (Again somewhat well known).
Magnitude 9
Kotipelto
Grudge's claw
Galloglass
Firewind
Element Eighty
Crystallion
Cryonic Temple
Brainstorm (Again somewhat well known).
Avian
Anubis Gate
Deadly Sin
Narnia (somewhat well known).
Chinchilla
New Eden
Dragonland
Grand Magus
Eyes Of Shiva
Communic
Wolf
Evergrey (fairly well known)
Eidolon (fairly well known)
Eyefear
Phantom Lord
Seven witches
Suidakra
Without face
The Vanden Plas
Vintersong
Her Whisper
Impellitteri
Thats enough for now, I would hope that some of you would know SOME of these bands.

I think Jeff wins the thread. Damn. And it's all Parker's fault that I went through an epic metal stage in 9th grade, listening to Rhapsody and Hammerfall. I transitioned out of it, into weirder music akin to Radiohead and the Mars Volta, and now I'm in a transition from that to...more poppier things...

Nothing wrong with "Power Metal" bands, there are a lot of them that are really good, some just tend to be a bit more into the fantasy element than others. HammerFall is one of my favorite power metal bands and their newest album "Threshold" is excellent.
A lot of metal bands are also jumping the gap between generes. Take Iced Earth, they are a power metal band but they cross over into many other metal formats as well. One of my favorite bands Persuader is a power metal band with a lot of Doom/Death Metal elements. Many doom/death metal bands could really learn a lot from them because they strike an excellent balance between the different formats and use the doom/death metal elements in the proper places. It's actually because of them that I have been able to get into more of the Doom/Death metal bands.
Anyone that is really looking for stuff out of the norm really needs to look more to the European metal scene and the small market labels. Hard Rock and Metal are actually appreciated in Europe and not simply cast aside like it is here in the US. Don't get me wrong there is still some really good US metal bands, like Icarus Witch, but they simply don't get the respect or acknowledgement that they deserve. The US music industry is all about Pop, Rap and Country music, none of which require the slightest degree of talent that it takes to make it in a Hard Rock/Metal band. If you don't think so, how many Pop, Rap or Country artists could sing something from Entombed, Sipknot, Skinless or Shadows Fall? The answer is they can't, but those bands can turn around and play anything in those formats as well as other formats like classical or indie.
Something people may also want to check out is a documentary called "HEAVY: The History Of Metal" it runs on both VH1 and MTV occasionally. I think there are like 6 episodes and it is just a fantastic look into the beginnings of Metal with Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin all the way up through some current stuff. You also get to see a lot of really cool stuff and see views from people like Scott Ian, Dee Snider, Toni Iommi and many other prominent people in metal. I need to find out if they put it out on DVD yet because it's so well done.

I agree with you 100% on "Bad For Good". Meat's new version is extremely dissapointing, especially considering he does it pretty well live.
However, I do think Meat's version of "Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through" has a greater emotional impact than the original, but that's just me. Interestingly enough, Jim isn't the one who is actually singing the original RRDCT, even though he is credited for doing so. The one who is actually singing that is a man named Rory Dodd, and he's also the one singing "Surf's Up" on Jim's album. Rory was also a member of Fire Inc., and his recent claims that he'll never work with Jim (or Meat Loaf) again pretty much puts a nail in the coffin for a Fire Inc. reunion.

Lacuna Coil is excellent, love a good female vocalist.
The others you mentioned are good as well, Flaw probably the best of them.
The reason I know so much music, especially when it comes to Metal is because I am constantly looking for "new" stuff to listen to. When I say "new" that doesn't mean it has to be something that just came out, it could be an album that came out a long time ago that didn't get much notice. I can go to FYE and spend hours there just scanning cd's and listening to tracks. If you don't look for new stuff then your never going to find it until someone tells you about it. Take a band like Dragonforce, I have been listening to them for a long time now, but they only just started getting noticed in the US this past year. A guy I work with just went to a Killswitch Engage concert that had Dragonforce on the card with them. He came into work the next day and was blown away by them, said they were the best band by far that played that night, now he has all their cd's, LOL. You gotta take a chance once in a while and just buy a cd for the hell of it, maybe it has an awesome cover or you like the name of the band. I do that quite a bit and a lot of the time I am suprised with a really good band, sometimes I get something I don't like at all, but you don't know until you give it a shot.

Rory Dodd sang with MeatLoaf on the 1st Bat Out of Hell as well.

Rory Dodd sang with MeatLoaf on the 1st Bat Out of Hell as well.
Also on Bat 2. Actually, Rory was the background vocalist on pretty much every song Jim wrote and/or produced up through the mid-90s. He's probably most recognizable as the guy who sings the "turn around" lines in Bonnie Tyler's version of "Total Eclipse of the Heart".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rory_Dodd
Where did you find out this info??
Well, for one thing, if you listen to "Surf's Up", "Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through", and "Lost Boys and Golden Girls" and compare them to the other songs on Jim's album, you can hear that it's not Jim's voice singing those songs. And, I don't know how this information first came out, but it's something that is pretty well known among Steinfans, and openly discussed at message forums and whatnot.
BTW, if you really want to hear Rory sing a good Steinsong you may have never heard before, in the link below you'll be able to listen to a demo of an unreleased Steinsong called "A Kiss is a Terrible Thing to Waste" with Dodd on lead vocals. It's a shame that it was never released on an album, as I think it is one of Steinman's very best songs (it starts out with a slow introduction, but picks up about two minutes in)-

Really KMFDM is the only band/artist that I listen to that not very many people, at least in my area, have heard of. And they have been around for about 22 or so years now.
Some of the members decided to, then, leave the group and in 2001, started another band called MDFMK (KMFDM backwards). They made only one album and were basically done there after. They, later, rejoined the band.
I also listen to some other artists that I, and some others, haven't heard of either but not as frequently as KMFDM.

Nice list, I listen to almost all of these bands myself, you might want to check out "RAGE" good band and have been around for a long time (up to their 22nd studio album I believe) and fit in with a lot of the stuff you like.
If you haven't heard of "Threshold" I really suggest checking them out I am sure you would like them a lot.

Easy.
Plumb.
I sincerely doubt *anyone* has ever heard of this band/singer (the album refers to Plumb as a group, but the websites refer the name only to the lead singer. Hmmm), except maybe Saruman, but I wouldn't give anyone else a chance. I have the first self-titled album from '98, and I really do like some of the tracks on it, so its an often listen for me.
