Rhode Island and the Easter Bunny (http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=3018390&page=1). Now that state rep deserves an extra helping of pancakes and sausage under the bush tomorrow morning (Etta Hume)! :D

That's right, happy Easter everyone!
And I'm not just talking the rabbits and chocolate one either. The real reason for Easter.
Happy Resurection Day!

Happy Easter, or as my friend said, Happy Zombie Jesus day.
Yay for a real Easter celebration. Although the chocolate is good...

<.<..
I hate to break this to all of you, but..
Easter is based on a Celtic-Pagan tradition of "Reincarnation" of the earth, and their Fertility Goddess..
That's why there's bunnies and eggs. Bunnies reproduce like...well, bunnies. And eggs are a symble of "Rebirth" of the world. There's also Lambs, which all represent said Fertility Goddess.
Christianity took it, and kept the day to make it easier to convert the Celts.
All they did was..well, change the meaning from "Rebirth of Earth" to "Rebirth of Jesus of Nazerath(sp?)". Even the name is the same.
Knowledge ftw!

We know, they did the same thing with Christmas.
But this holiday celebrates an actual historical event :p (comparing it to the Celtic holiday, not Jesus' birth. It'd be hard to reincarnate if you were never born)

Christianity just kinda took the day and used it to mark an actual place on the calendar.
Understanding knowledge ftw. :p

Screw the Politically Correct/Anti-Religious people, Happy Easter! Jesus died on a friday, had a nice sleep on Saturday, and came back on a Sunday!
Flee from the tomb you cowardly Romans, FLEE!

I wouldn't say they were cowardly. If suddenly someguy appeared and looked like lightning, I'd probably run too.

Actually, most of the time we don't celebrate the return of Christ when it actually happened. We only celebrate it (if you believe in it) when Easter coincides with Passover. I believe it did this year. So THIS time, we really celebrated an event when according to the records, it happened. :dozing:

I believe the goddess's name was Eostre or something like that :) I could be wrong though.

Psssh
Roman "christmas" was hundreds of times better than the christian one.
One week of food, orgies, and wine!
Lemme find an article on the Celtic Easter..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eostre
Oops. Was Germanic! Meh. Close enough. So, yes. Happy *vampire-jesus day and Happy Eostre/Ostara day.
*Let's look at what the bible said he did. He floated on water...he avoided the light...he was the whitest arab ever..he ROSE FROM THE DEAD...he said "Eat as this were my body, and drink as if this were my blood"(or something to that extent at the last supper).

Walked on water - yes.
Was white - No. That's just a little bit of wishful thinking by Europeans that just won't go away.
Resurection - yes.
You mangled quote about communion - yes.

By the same token, Black and Native American portrayals of Jesus also exist.

If you can give me a picture of an Injun Jesus, I'll make a favorable reference to god.
