I'm going again this year. Might do the game tournament again and see if I can do better then two years ago. Not going to spend as much in the Dealer's Room considering I'm planning to hit the Chicago Disney Store for discounted Meet the Robinsons junk, though I still might get a Bandai figure or two. Probably a Ghidorah considering I might be able to get GFW Gigan much cheaper in a local drug store assuming they get more in.

I cant, and I want to SO DAMN BAD. Ugh. I live in North Dakota, and plane tickets cost too much and there is now way my parents would let me drive there. Also, I am the only one in our whole town who enjoys Godzilla, so I would have no one to attend with.

It would be up to J.D. and the convention organizers but *I* could see a "v.2", mini-con/mid-con or whatever local kaiju/Japanese sci fi/fantasy whatever meet fans might be able to swing.
Presently, the state of Arkansas is at a point where we can't muster enough interest for holding our long-running state-wide sci fi con (Rock*Kon) which had been going for 28 years. I'm not up on the attendence figures for the past few years for G-FEST but if there are any negative trends, I would suggest exploring options. As I understand it, California, New Mexico and Atlanta might be possibles. This is strictly *MY* spooty catch-as-catch-can (probably dated) intropulation (is that even a real word?).
I would love to see an annual Godzilla/Japanese sci-fi (other than anime which seems to be off in a world of its own because it's not based on theatre/live action) conventiion continue in North America.
Could a future G-FEST be in Montreal or Toronto? Personally, I COULD consider it because of my background in logististics. At the same time, I hate to dump anything in one person's lap, in this case, J.D.'s but G-FEST is a G-FAN thing.
My apologies, but when you're dealing with an entire STATE and talking to everyone from your Public Service (Utlities) Commission head on down to the local United Way boss, you gotta think a little bigger than usual, and into the next year (or two).
Kaiju fans getting together online whenever is handy/we feel like it/think about it doesn't compare to taking a 2-3 (or more!) day/week long break from the real world within our own little worlds and maybe checking out a new town/burg and meeting face-to-face with fellow fans and folks who made our giant monster fantasies so real.
I will always treasure having had the opporunity to meet Mssrs. Nakajima, Satsuma, Tsuchiya, Eggleton, Ryo (Hurricane) Hariya, Field,Craig, Nakano, Yuasa, Eggleton, Kawakita, Hyde, Lenell "Ultra" Bridges, Yuasa, Yoshikazu Ishii, Tom and Diane of Clawmark Toys, Barb, "Goji Girl", Dawn, Giesey, Vaquer, Parr; L. Austin & Raki; Hyde, Steele, Nunez, Woodward, "Big Al" Carrabotta, MiKe O'Brian (Indiana?) and a BUNCH I probably missed listing as I just got done celebrating one HECK of a 4th of July. (Sorry, Canucks. You gotta be a Yank to understand how we can turn a HISTORICAL observance into "party time USA". ;) I passed up the Moosehead at Wally World for a suitcase of Steel Reserve Lager 211 and we're really enjoying it!)
If you possibly can, attend a G-FEST. I guarantee you won't regret it. Got questions? ASK! I got introduced to the "Low Bucks Racing Team" concept (SCCA) when I was stationed in Alaska and now I seem to be at odds with the local Chamber of Commerce but the Exec. Dir. at the EOC and I are buds. If you know what a Denny's is, I can no doubt try and help you with budgetary issues. ;) Four wheeling it? Hey, I've competed in rallyes.
I'm trying to get our state up to speed on 2-1-1 so it's pretty much "been there/done dat" for me. You all: GO FER IT!
G-FEST only happens once a year. You're, a G-fan, aren't you? It's about GODZILLA! Check the intro (http://www.g-fan.com/). *We* make it happen - the FANS. JD is a school teacher. He's got a day job like most of us over 16-18 do. He gets G-FAN out. Us KP types keep a website and forum up and running for the Big G and his myriad kaiju cohorts because WE LOVE 'EM'. Hey, I admit it. I (still) like giant Japanese monsters. If I didn't, I sure wouldn't be trying to keep their TV showings current and (still) keep an Ultra Capsule Monster handy! Stan Hyde would no doubt love to have me show up at Kaiju Konfessions and admit it. I can't sing worth a hoot but I believe we can make an effort to save the Earth. (EM, I'm a White Hat. OK? ;) )
Check their website (http://www.g-fan.com/). Click on G-FEST, as well as Past G-FESTS (http://www.g-fan.com/html/gfest_pastgfests.html).
My sincerest regrets to the WAA crew and G-FEST for (once again) not being able to make this year's con. It's just one of those things where "real life" manages to mess up the fun stuff.

I had a blast!! It was soooo fun. I must say...I am soooo happy that I went.

Sahra, family and I got to the Crowne Plaza at like...8 o'clock central time. First thing Sahra and I did was run to the dealer's room XD!! I must say, that place is FRICKING amazing. I bought Rebirth of Mothra 3 cards...and a Rainbow Mothra action figure heheheheeee!!! And I also got to meet Evan, BSDQ, G-Matt, Mecha74 and we had a fun time talking for quite awhile.

The next day, I was in the dealer's room and Art gallery a lot with everybody. I got to meet girzilla (Mel) and she is AWESOME!! I got to meet Matt (Cookson too) I also got to meet Markas well. Plus I got to meet Franz ((guy in charge of GZH)) it was fun, however our session on Saturday was pushed to Sunday due to difficulties and such. SOOO!!! Later that day, I got some really rare Mothra CDs!!! Joey (a friend of Evan and a helper at G-Fest) saved the REbirth of Mothra 1 and 3 complete soundtracks....which happens to be the things I have been searching for, for forever. And I got them and am listening to them now EEEK!!! Also..I got the ROM 2 original japanese soundtrack eek!! We also went up to my room, like Cookson said and I kicked butt on G:STE HAHHAHA! Last night was the costume contest....Sahra dressed up as Belvera, and Mel's friend Mandy ((who is awesomely amazing and is a member here...can't remember her name though lol)) dressed up as Lora. They both sang the Mothra song in front of everybody, and WON SECOND PLACE! WOOO HOO!! Plus...on this day I got to meet the Actors!!! Robert Scott Field is so awesome, I got a picture with him and the day before we actually had like a 10 minute conversation rofl! I also got to meet Shelly Sweeny (Pilot in GvsMG 2, and she played in GFW) can't remember the other movies. She is very beautiful, sweet, and kind natured. I also got a pic w/ her. And the other actor from King Kong Escapes was awesome ((can't remember his name...silly me XD)) He was very kind.

Today was our session in the morning, and it went very well. Evan and Neal spoke most of the time for the 15 minutes, but I got to give a little spill about Mothra from WAA which made me happy. Dan also got to talk a bit also. I soooo hope we can do it next year. It was amazing, and an experience that I'll never forget.

Here is my impression of everybody:

Evan: As amazing as I thought he was llol. Very chatty, and got along with me well from the start. He gave me a big hug when I first got there LOL. I got to buy one of his artistic creations too, which I must say was amazing!!

Neal: An awesome person. He was very friendly. Him and I started on any random conversation and started talking LOL. Whether it was kaiju or Star Trek. Definately an amazing person!

BSDQ: LMAOO really hilarious XDD. Him and I got along fine compared to our seeming competitiveness on the forums haha. He's fun to talk to, and loves X-Men, which kicks all ***!

girzilla (mel): Super awesome person. Her and I hung out a lot at G-Fest. I even got to wear her Vulcan/Romulan ears haha!! I miss her already lol. *hugs Mel...my Trekkie sister!!*

Mark: He was very shy at first but him and I started talking more as the Fest progressed. He is very friendly.

Franz: Cool guy, he is hilarious haha. Has worked very hard on GZH, and deserves a lot of recognition for it. He definatly is a lot different in person then he is on the message boards.

Mandy: LOL she's my Mothra sister!! I love the dress she made, it looked exactly like Lora's dress from ROM 2. A very dedicated Mothra fan, which immediatly gets hugs haha!! I love her laugh too, we just looked at each other and started laughing ROFL!

Cookson: Also very easy to get along with. He is very quiet, and I love his personality. Kicks some *** at Godzilla on G:STE too haha. It was really cool meeting him.

G-Matt: He is the first person I met at G-Fest. We were standing next to each other in the Dealer's room and I finally realized that I was standing next to him LOL. It was awesome. I love his Finnish accent, he speeaks English quite fluently. It was awesome meeting you!

I hope I didn't miss anybody. G-Fest was such an amazing experience. I DEFINATELY am going next year. Sahra and I got asked to help out next year too, cause we had some ideas for activities that interested them. *hugs everybody*

That's about it haha. Keep an eye out for pictures.

((btw Cyndi, I wrote "Boobstroyah!" -Cyndi" on the message board in the hallway in your honor LOL!!))

This is a quick brief report:

I arrived at the Crowne Plaza around 11:30pm Friday night. I kinda walked around and mapped out where everything is, then went back up to my room and went to sleep.

When I woke up I went down stairs and registered. I walked around and saw Evan(gojira2000), so I had to say hi obviously. I met many members from Kaiju Galaxy, and I'm glad I did. You guys/gals are so nice biggrin.gif lol. During Saturday all 4 of the administers from Kaiju Galaxy went up into Dons(EternalMothra) room and played G:STE. I got my butt kicked but that's ok. lol

I walked around the dealers room a bit, and ended up getting a few dvds.

I watched some fan-films also, which was a lot of fun. There was this film I saw that looked quite good actually, it involved Godzilla fighting Ghidorah in stop-motion.

Listened to the Ifukube concert, which was great. I was honestly expecting to listen to Toho stuff, but the music was great still.

I pretty much was just hanging around doing some things, and watching others having fun, which was great to see.

The only thing I was disappointed about, was the Godzilla: Zero Hour presentation. I, like many others were expecting to see the entire project, but all we got was 17 minutes of human-dialog with no monster footage. It was good, but I think giving us a little of monster action would have been nice. Another reason I was upset was that, G-FEST is obviously a "family" type of atmosphere, the language(cussing) in the 17 minutes was kinda ridiculous.

I went up stairs and watched a bunch of monster movies on there local channel the Crowne Plaza has. It showed mostly Gamera films, but showed original trailers of Godzilla movies. It was kinda cool actually.

I woke up Sunday morning(around 8am) and pretty much packed up and left. I didn't want to leave obviously but I had to get back to my job and all that.

Overall though I had a lot of fun, and was pleased to meet some of you guys/gals there. Obviously I wasn't there for G-FEST on Friday or Sunday, so some of your guys'gals report will be better. I hope that the next G-FEST will be held in the same place, so we can all meet again.

----

I might as well give my impressions of the people I met. Keep in mind that I was only there a day, so I won't have a big of a list.

Evan: Wow this guy is great. He talks a lot, and pretty much speaks his mind. I wish I had an extra day to talk to this guy, awesome awesome person.

Don: Very likable guy. He's so nice. I kicked butt at GSTE? Nah, I got my butt whooped by you.

Sahra: Pretty much the same as Don. Very nice. She looked so cute wearing her Belvera costume.

Mel(girzilla): Didn't talk to her much, but she seemed nice, and I'm sure she is. She has a nice hard hand shake lol. I wish I could have talked to her a little more.

Space Rodan: This guy is cool. I walked around with him a lot, actually. We had a spectacular GSTE battle up in his room. Very very cool.

BSDQ: Another guy I didn't speak to much, but I heard him speak. He seemed cool.

Franz: Talked to him briefly about GZH. nice guy.

Yeah, G-fest was great. I especially enjoyed the Ifukube concert! Pure AWESOMENESS! The third piece before last was my favorite. Got all of the musicians' autographs, and all of the actors/producers' as well.

Even though our WAA promotion did go *exactly* as planed, I'm happy with the results. I was pleasently surprised by the interest shown in it, especially during the Q&A session. We took longer than 15 minutes, I think. I hope Franz wasn't mad... And a TV show interviewed Mecha74, BSDQ and myself about WAA. Show appear on cable soon enough.

Btw, the WAA site IS up now. Please go and read it at www.whenaliensattack.com. *Note: there are some typos that made it into the first part of the story; ignore them--they'll soon be fixed.

And of course it was good to meet everyone. Here's my impressions of them... brace yourselves....

girzilla (Mel)--oh wait, I see her everyday!

EternalMothra (Donny)--just as I imagined him. Very friendly and kind. I felt as if we had known each other face-to-face for years. I enjoyed talking with very much and can't wait to seek my revenge for Godzilla90's defeat! I SHALL HAVE MY REVENGE! PREPARE TO DIE!

G-Matt (Matti)--Very nice guy, very pleasent to be around. I enjoyed talking with him and just hanging out. I was impressed he actually came half way around the planet to come to G-FEST. He English is very good (and he speaks FOUR languages! I want to see a show of hands--who here speak 4 languages?). I hope to meet him again next year!

Scropius (Mark)--nice fellow. Shy, yes, but nothing wrong with that. He seemed very skilled at wandering in and out of places without being noticed. Ninja, perhaps? Hmmm.....

Chibi_Gappa_Mon (Mandi)--Oh wait, I see her like, fairly often....

Cookson ([Matt] Cookson)--Friendly and polite. It was a pleasure meeting him and I enjoyed our conversations. He's a great gamer and handy with Ghidorah.http://209.85.12.231/html/emoticons/wink.gif It's unfortunate he had to leave early.

BS Digital Q (Daniel)--Oh wait, I met him last year.... eh, he's still the same 'ol BSDQ as always.

And I can't remember how to spell his username name (something-Jedi?), but he was identifiable via purple dragon hat throughout the weekend. Interesting fellow with some very original ideas and concepts for the kaiju universe.

FMVorenkamp (Franz)--oh wait, met him last year too... well, it was good to see him again. Very nice guy. A big thanks to him and helping us promote our book! (btw, the film looks great).

Mecha74 (Neal)--Great guy. Good sense of humor. We got along just fine, and he I was impressed by what he threw together for the WAA table. He did a fantastic job manning the WAA booth while I handled my own when I wasn't running around. Sorry 'bout that, Neal. It was great seeing though!

Queen Bee (am I allowed?)--Very pleasent woman; I enjoyed talking with her. Very good head on her shoulders--I see more clearly now why we made her a mod.http://209.85.12.231/html/emoticons/wink.gif

Space Rodan (dare I say it?)--Nice person, great gamer. Unfortunately we didn't get to chat as much. Maybe next year?

Wolfprincese-something (Sarah)--Very out-going, happy and energetic. Great person, very much enjoyed her company. Mel and Mandi and her seemed to hit it off real well! It was a pleasure to meet her.

Am I forgetting anyone? If so let me know. And hopefully we'll get some new members to KG as well. Overall it was great fun you guys! Hope to do it again!

Yeah that was me. I use FigmentJedi as a username pretty much everywhere else except here and a Disney World board. The hat's based on the character in my avatar.
Anyway, G-Fest was great. Had a fantastic time, having got a fuller experience compared to when I went two years ago.
The merging of the Artist Alley and Game room made things rather convenient for me and it became one of my main haunts at the con with the game tournament as well as the WAA booth. Considering Neal was manning the booth most of the weekend, I think I talked with him the most often as well as helped him set up the booth on Saturday and Sunday. It was great to meet up with everyone, though it was a shame Cookson had to leave early.
Got a whole bunch of stuff from the Dealer's Room (as well as getting rid of my Simitar KOTM and Goodtimes Kong vs Godzilla DVDs) including a bootleg of Gamera the Brave and six Bandai figures.
The winning Music Video was probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen(playing on the Xians weakness to certain sounds with bad bongo music and later, the annoying Gamera theme song, ending with a battle between Godzilla and Gamera who eventually team up to put an end to the madness). Hope that it gets uploaded to YouTube sometime soon. That and the battle between the people in the Kong and Godzilla costumes in the Artist Alley.

Well, G-FEST has come and gone and I can honestly say that it was an experience that I will never forget as long as I live! It was my first G-FEST and also the farthest I have ever traveled for any con considering that including Hell spawned traffic and toll roads it took us about 8 hours to reach the hotel(the previous record for any con was just 4). I also had a wonderful time hanging out with all the various KG members, usually conventions are a solo gig for me but actually meeting forum friends for this one and having someone to talk to made it very special for me. And the familes and friends of said members were also wonderful to socialize with, especially Gojira2000's mom, she was very sweet and helpful and assisted me at the WAA booth at certain times.

I could say the same of you my friend. And don't worry about the time I spent at the WAA booth, that's what I went there for after all and I loved every minute of it.:)

Considering Neal was manning the booth most of the weekend, I think I talked with him the most often as well as helped him set up the booth on Saturday and Sunday

Very true, and thank you again for your help Figment.

Couldn't agree more I laughed until there were tears.:intears: The costume parade was awesome too may I add, the Hedorah we bore witness to had to be seen to be believed! This was also the first con I had ever been to where the celebreties in question did not charge for autographs too, very nice.

I also made a killing in the dealer's room:D ...

Goji 74-75

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b361/Mecha74/bandaigoji74.jpg

Goji 1991(without tag)$85 dollars. There was another dealer that had one with tag, but i just didn't feel like tossing out $170 for it.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b361/Mecha74/bandaigoji91.jpg

Mechanikong(with tag)$120. Another dealer had one without tag for $75, but it looked like it had been beaten violently with a bat and was practically falling apart.

Kong(with tag)$110.

Also scored an original Bandai showa Mogera for $35 because of a busted antenae and a pretty sweet Guiron figure for $5, but I can't find pics of those online.

From start to finish, a wonderful experience!

I had a lot of fun, and hope to go agian next year. I picked up several DVDs including. Negadon, Mantango, The X from oute space, Pulgasari, Garuda, Dogera, and Gamera the brave. I also got a prebult prepainted manda model that was seen in DAM. I picked up the far east monsters Godzilla statue, and reserved a Ghidorah. I also found a six inch unbuilt Mechani Kong kit for around $30. In vinal figures I picked up a Godzilla Jr., A Mechagodzilla 75 from TOM, a large 54 Godzilla, a Large Kiryu, and a 68 Godzilla. All in all I spent around $440.

I think we kept missing eachother, but I was at the WAA Q and A on sunday. I sat in the back row with a GZH shirt on. I asked the question about other monsters taking a step up with Godzilla out of the picture for the majority of the story. I met Mecha74, and BS digital Q at the WAA table.

WOOO HOO!!

So, the group hanging around with the Mothra girls were Kaijuphile peeps? I should have introduced myself. I'm the guy who hooked them up for their encore. Here's some pics so everyone here can check them out:

Your friends did great work on their costumes. It was also very cool that they sang the song. Things like that, making it a performance and not just a presentation, are always welcome, as it adds to the show for everybody. The costume parade is always a highlight of the con for me, because my GF is a regular contestant. This year she made a Science Patrol uniform (from the original Ultraman), and helped out in the costume room. Hopefully your friends will become regulars too. Even if they just stick with Shobijin, there are certainly enough versions to choose from. Plus, it's always good to see more girls getting involved.
