"I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's a depression. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's work, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TV's while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that's the way it's supposed to be. We know things are bad - worse than bad. They're crazy. It's like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don't go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, 'Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won't say anything. Just leave us alone.' Well, I'm not gonna leave you alone. I want you to get mad! I don't want you to protest. I don't want you to riot - I don't want you to write to your congressman because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Muslim, and Christian Extremists and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you've got to get mad. "
This was written in the 70's for a movie called Network But to me it fits so well today the scary part is this isn't a movie this is real life. So in the imortal words of Howard Beale"
"You've got to say, 'I'm a HUMAN BEING, *******it! My life has VALUE!' So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell, 'I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"

Yeah. It is kinda close to a depression. It doesn't help that the American dollar dropped in value lately either.

Close to a depression? Are we entering a state of total anarchy? Why give so many "you can make a difference" speeches? The state of this world is nearing chaos, honestly, it's all matter of how soon everything just goes bat **** crazy.

2)
Citibank umm Bank of Amercia
What about some links.
Because banks just need money. And money is cheap.
And the dollar "sinking" in value, simple means that other countries might have actually *gasp* caught up to us. Like Canada. About freakin time.

Yeah and the economy and job market are setting records. We have lowered unemployment dramaticly, and while there HAVE been some lows, they've thankfully have not had any lasting effects.
The only REAL economic problems are the housing market, gas prices (aka: oil), and our over-reliance upon imports, while not exporting too much.

And if the dollar drops, other nations buy American Exports.

Yeah, hasn't the Canadian dollar just surpassed the American Dollar in value? I heard something about it some time ago. *has not watched the news in a long time due to not having a TV at college*

Yeah I agree with you. I don't think our country will make the same mistake----especially one of THAT magnitude.

It wasn't a mistake that somebody made. It was just a series of events that just snowballed.

Thanks. But that doesn't say they are "almost going under". They've just lost a butt load of assets.

That's true, I concede that. But, you asked for banks going under, and that's the best I can do. ;)

1) Real estateI had iniitially heard a partiial report on "hidden charges" in mortgages, such as $35 just to fax documents. Then seeing M-K citing the classic NETWORK scene and the discussion here, I took a little closer look at the foreclosure issue. Do a search and you'll come up with a "crisis" in many cities.
A home is probably the biggest purchase anyone will ever make. Real estate is about the most tangible thing in existance so you can figure there's going to be various "interests" playing with it, especially when MONEY is involved. Code Enforement can't keep up with who to get after for not keeping their overgrown lots cut because they're being sold back and forth on eBay. BANKS were mentioned. Check THIS article (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/06/business/06mortgage.html?_r=2&pagewanted=1&hp&oref=slogin), probably what that snippet I caught was based on and see which big names show up.
Howard Beale isn't predator material like the mis-named "angels (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2007/10/21/2007-10-21_angels_hit_desperate_homeowners_with_for.html)" who swoop in on those behind on their payments. The other option is prey that falls into the rat race trap.
Ever hear, "Stop the world! I want to get off!"? The way banks, credit card companies and the government have conditioned this country toward a DEFICIT generated "economy", you can bet that if their little bubble bursts, A LOT of people are going to feel it. A friend reported gas went over $3.00 in the small neighboring town where he lives. We're ranging from $2.87 to $2.97, depending where you go. Is it yet another of the CHRISTMAS holiday ploys? Every store has trees and gift suggestions in their windows and by the front door. We've also got some irate citizens, luckily, who think this year they're getting WAY too far ahead of things.
Time to dig out my "Bah, HUMBUG!" button! :darklord:
