View Full Version : Ghidorah: magnetic?

I always hear about how Ghidorah's beams are called "gravity beams", but I was watching TTHM the other day, and I got to thinking: in the movie, Ghidorah's meteor has a strong magnetic force to it, and since the beams he shoots dont really seem to have anything to do with gravity, would it be save to say that his abilities have much more to do with electricity/magnetism than gravity?
What do you think?

I'd say it's possible.
I did read somewhere that Toho's official stance was that Ghidorah's beams are called gravity bolts...but I can't recall the source. Maybe someone knows.

I believe the "gravity" aspect of his beams were explored a little more in the ZF version, though I haven't really watched much of his encounters with ZF... GKG also seemed to have some gravitational forces behind his beams. The damage they caused didn't seem to come from electricity, though magnetism may have also played a part. I'd say that at least both of his space-born forms have some extent of influence over all three powers.

I saw the scenes where Ghidrah uses his different powers in ZF. It very well could still fall within the auspices of magnetic manipulation.
Honestly, all things being equal here, as it seems they are, we still have the scene with the meteorite to give proof to the magentic theory.
And the bolts did managed to melt several tanks, something electricity would do.

I'm starting to think it may be a mix of all three aspects. I think GKG's meteor did some gravitational manipulation but I've never seen the full version of that movie and its been a long time since I watched the taped Sci-Fi one I do have...

Ah yes, I forgot about that. You might be able to equate magnetism into that but then you'd have to ask if Showa Godzilla's beam is magnetic because it did the same exact thing... to the same exact tanks. :eyebrow:

Um, Im talking about Showa Ghidorah. Since this is the Showa section, you know?
And Im not sure what kind of point youre trying to make with the Godzilla thing. Lots of electricity can melt metal. Lots of instense heat can do the same thing. What is your point, exactly?

I'd say he's magnetic. I don't know exactly how his beams work, but his meteor sure was magnetic, and it makes sense to think that he is too. They were very much like gravity bolts in GFW, however.

Toho has descibed them as gravity rays. It's an awesome weapon since nothing is immune to gravity. That's why Godzilla had a hard time fighting King Ghidorah in the Showa Era. Godzilla also had a hard time fighting Kaizer Ghidorah since he was using what seemed to be gravity rays as well.

In my opinion, the only true gravity rays would be ones that actually manipulate the gravity of the object hit by the ray(s). Grand King Ghidorah's anti-gravity flight doesn't qualify, and Spacegodzilla's Gravity Tornado meets the mark half-way (it isn't a ray).
Zone Fighter King Ghidorah was able to levitate cars with his beams, showing that they are true gravity beams. Yet, the same beams did not levitate Zone Fighter in their battles.
Kaiser Ghidorah's beams are true gravity beams, as they manipulate gravity to fling Godzilla.
