View Full Version : The Melancholy of Meta-Knight

I'm sure we've all seen the "Alot of people are going to play Meta-Knight" rants throughout the 2 years it's taken for this game to come out. 3 of our members had put up Meta-Knight as their original mains, even.
However, with the release ofthe game came the changing of minds.
2 of those 3 members switched to other characters, and a friend of mine, obsessed with all things kirby and meta-knight, suddenly found himself switching to Wario.
I can't help but feel like this is happening across the country. Granted, Meta-Knight is still a solid character with great potential, but many seem to have found that his style doesn't meet their own when it comes to the fingers on the buttons.
I myself, funny enough, have been finding it more and more fun to play with Meta-Knight as of late, and he was never even considered on my top 5 main characters.
Have any of your opinions about Meta-Knight changed in the past month? For better or worse? Has your opinion not changed at all? What do you think is the reason Meta-Knight is getting shafted so many times?

He was never too high on my Must Play list among the new characters, and actually playing with him hasn't changed my opinion.
However, from his introduction back in August, I ranted about how I'd main Pokemon Trainer, and playing the game has only made me like him more.

Meta-Knight's style just seems a tad too unique, so maybe its a matter of getting used to. That, or like most things hyped, one just places it to high on a pedestal for reality to compete.

He's a character I love to use, just not in competitive situations. I find my personal style relies on a good mix of strong smash attacks/air attacks and some relative speed. While it's fun to combo like crazy with meta I rely on more traditional fighters for the tough battles.

I main heavies, Bowser, Dedede, Snake.
None of this featherweight crap.
Metaknight looked like a tiny flying Marth back then, and doesn't cater to my playstyle now.
So no... Nothing's changed.

I love strong smashes and ranged attacks. Meta Knight, unfortunately, has neither.

Interestingly, Lucario more closely resembles a certain Street Fighter than anyone else on the roster :D

You still need to change your badge to reflect that :D

I always thought I'd use him for fun. As a big Kirby fan, and with Kirby being my secondary character in the original and a major (labor of love) character of mine in Melee, he always was going to come after Kirby and Dedede.
That said, of the trio, Kirby's the only one I feel fully confident with. Meta Knight I can handle well enough, and utterly dominate opponents...until it comes to knocking them out. As a teammate, he's devastating but going solo I have troubles.

Well as Pyras knows I'm a big Meta Knight fanboi and also love all things Kirby. So when Meta Knight was put in I was excited! and when they released his moveset I was extra excited.
I was surprised how well I adapted to using Meta Knight straight out of the box, it was like it was made for me! I'm definately getting better with him and he's totally my best charactor right now. My gripes with MK are minor ones, his A attack is too long, just hitting the button leaves me stuck for a few wide open seconds and with my connection that can be the difference between win or fail, and his down+B special can be inturrupted and even be canceled with a well timed attack of course since it's the only "teleport" move that comes with an attack it's clearly for balance issues but still annoying.
It's true his "knock out" power isn't the best, but I've learned tricks to maximize his launching potential and I dare-say I'm more than comptant with his Final Smash (I've been able to consistantly hit multiple opponents with it and I mean with the LARGE slash not just the everyone gets hit slice) But that was never Meta's style he's about dishing out high-speed damage not power hits. However I've gotten to know some of his attacks pretty well and after a decent damage build can send opponented soaring when I need to.
So in summation I'm totally sticking with the Knight. :)

My brother wanted to play as Metaknight as soon as he learned he was in the game, and when He played, he switched him to his main character. He's pretty good with him, and does manage to knock people out just fine. his style is fast and crazy, his old main was Fox. Metaknight is also his favorite Nintendo character.

Plain and simple, Meta Knight makes up for relatively weak smashes with his over the tops default attacks.
His attacks are incredibly versatile and useful, i mean just by pressing the ole' A button the guy slices and dices all over himself. Not only that, he tornadoes anyone to a quick damage up just by pressing B! Now that's handy!
He definitely is not my main... but he is a good damage building partner to have!
