View Full Version : What's with the SEARCH feature all of a sudden?

I came across an article I wanted to mention in the Evolution/Creationism discussion and ran a search, not sure where it might be in the various General Chat forums. The thread is Creationism and evolution - just "theories"? (http://www.kaijuphile.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9132). It DID NOT show up, even when just searching the Science & Technology forum.
Prior to my post, the last one was on November 2nd, 2007 if that might have anything to do with it.

That's odd. Could it be a forum glitch perhaps? Ever since the host crashed a few months ago KP has been doing some weird things every now and then.

I've noticed this as well, having had to search through pages for old threads that I knew still existed after the search attempt failed.

After the Forum crashed on the old host and I was forced to transfer the Forum to the new host in a short amount of time, the old search index file had to be left behind as it was HUGE.

I can rebuild the search engine but that would take a few hours, and the forum would have to be down for the entire rebuild.

I plan a pretty large update (which will add MANY new features) to the Forums in the near future. It will probably take a whole day to do the upgrade, update the skins to work with the newest version, and rebuild the search engine. I'll post an announcment a few days before this happens, but most likely it will be on a Saturday in the next few weeks.

The search index has been completely recompiled and should encompass every post on the forum.

And it only took 8 hours to do!
