Not sure what to make of this, but I found these pictures when I was under a search for other Korean monster movies. Wish I could read the language to give more background, but I can at least let these shots speak for themselves.

First, someone looks to have made some kind of chibi versions of Yongary '67, Pulgasari '85 and Wangmagwi(!?!): http://extmovie.com/5013 (scroll down slightly)

These next batches seem like they're customs (which is kind of a rare thing in kaiju toy collecting circles), but they're of some very unique characters. Please forgive how the pages load, they're set up really funky. Scroll over and down:

First, the Thai monster Garuda (and some unliked Thai 'guests' in the last pic for comparison): http://bbs.extmovie.com/zbxe/?document_srl=63687

Next, US Pulgasari wannabe Galgameth: http://bbs.extmovie.com/zbxe/?document_srl=63596

Here's Wangmagwi (with a back view for once and last pic cameos by Yongary '67- at least I think it is- and Buraki in the background): http://bbs.extmovie.com/zbxe/?document_srl=63560

Now, A*P*E and......PULGASARI '62(!!!!!- Where the @#$% did they ever find the reference materials for that sculpt?): http://bbs.extmovie.com/zbxe/?document_srl=63663

This is a couple of giant and monster characters from various Korean animes as shown in the screencaps alongside the toys:

A big group shot, along with figures of various Ultra monsters, all of which had their footage stolen for use in the film FLYING MONSTERS:

More group fun. The big blue guy, btw, is a giant hero from another Korean anime: http://bbs.extmovie.com/zbxe/?document_srl=63678

Any thoughts? Comments?

Cool stuff!

I find the general lack of Gwoemul merchandise puzzling, since The Host is the BIGGEST HIT MOVIE in Korea EVER.

I have that large Yonggary figure in the last two 'group shot' pages, BTW. ;)

Is that what this movie is?

^Jawohl! You are correct, sir. Otherwise known by it's Korean name, BICHEONGOESU, more info on it can be found in the Obscure Kaiju thread.

I actualy know where to get a DX Walking Yonggary figure... But that I am keeping secret. But just to let you have a hint: it is not a korean site!

And I want to know why Yonggu-Art will not let us have any D-WAR figures! Been to a site called www.zenamall.com? It will make you envious. Fron necklaces to towels, from mangas to snow globes and HD DVDS...

^ You're right. It's a very painful site. Now it seems there's even a Buraki vs. Dragon statue, too. Sheesh.

Me too. But it seems that somebody has put out (at least what looks like) a garage kit of good ol' Gwoemul. Observe:

Actualy, i think xofacto model kits have one or two up for sale. Hopefully this will pick up soon with the american remake and chinese sequel and korean sequel to THE HOST.

And monsterlandtoys has a yonggary figure for sale. But in Japan, Bandai has released tanks based on the tanks in D-WAR. Hopefully clawmarktoys will get thiese nect time tom and diane go to Japan. I am tired of just collecting D-WAR posters, flyers, and lithographs, I want some toys.

Kim Song-ho, the author of the toy reports on Extreme Movie, is a contributor to SciFi Japan. He wrote a nice English language article about the Yongary/Wangmagwi/Pulgasari figure set, with info provided by the creator of the toys:

And Keith, he mentions scifijapan alot. But thiese figures are friggin cool. And I am happy that Shim got a copy, thank god. And tell Mr. Kim Song-ho great job from a kroean kaiju fan!

So does anyone know where I can buy a Yonggary figure?

G2KMaster
March 12th, 2009, 11:31 PM
I do, but it is expensive and I am still deciding weather or not to buy it...

cloverfan98

Which one is it, and how much is it?

G2KMaster

The most common one, the DX one.

http://clubtokyo.org/listings/itemListingRpt.php?catID=1&subCatID=104&contentID=498

It is $150, not including Shipping.

Wow thats a lot. The DX sounds cool, but I really want the 12in. hard figure.

G2KMaster
March 12th, 2009, 11:43 PM
You cannot get that. Plus, the DX figure is 12 inch also. Only way to get the hard figure is to have an account on Yahoo auctions Japan and wait for the one day every two years someone tries to sell the damn thing.

March 12th, 2009, 11:59 PM
Yep. And I believe I saw a bootleg Yonggary toy as well.

G2KMaster
March 13th, 2009, 12:01 AM
Could you please describe it?

cloverfan98
March 13th, 2009, 12:04 AM
The seller called it a Godzilla/dinosaur figure, althought it looked like a very cheap plastic figure of the 2001 Yonggary, like a cheap dinosaur toy you could by at a drug or food store. It was along time ago, so I don't remember it very clearly.

That's too bad... Have you seen D-WAR?

cloverfan98
March 13th, 2009, 12:10 AM
Yes I have in fact! And in US Theaters, which was awesome! While I don't consider it to be one of the greatest movies ever made, I really enjoyed it alot, and I still do!

G2KMaster
March 13th, 2009, 12:28 AM
Nice. Do you onw any D-WAR merchandise?

cloverfan98
March 13th, 2009, 12:29 AM
No sadly. I've also seen Reptilian, AKA Yonggary 2001.

G2KMaster
March 13th, 2009, 12:50 AM
Yep, I can tell that. I actualy wrote a quick article on D-WAR merchandise in the USA. I can see you commented on it...

Yep! And I enjoyed it too! I never knew there was D-War stuff made in the US!
