View Full Version : KINGS OF MONSTERS

So why is or does Godzilla get this title?

Because...

1- HE was first
2- HE IS the toughest
3- HE STARS FIRST in 90% of the movies... you know (Godzilla vs...)
4- HE LOOKS KILLER AWESOME... and he does.
5- plus HE PROTECTS VIRTUAL THEM ALL... He will take the hits so the other Kaiju can recover. Particularly in the case of Anguirus (Oddly enough his first foe). and most certainly in the case of Minya.
Even if Mothera tends to be the one that can communicate better with the little fleshbulbs running around on the ground... She still gives him his leeway. Course she was always the one to push back if she felt strongly about "Whatever it is the two of them were fighting about this time".

Yeah... So Godzilla is the King of Monsters... You know... if the owners of King Kong hadn't been so damn selfish... Kong coulda been a contender.
-------------------------------------------
Speaking of that.
Though the suits for Kong never looked that great (Particularly the one in KKvG) I thought they portrayed him nicely... and at least he was being seen. The human characters in all the other movies that featured Kong might have been done a bit better. But besides "Son of Kong" that particular family was never portrayed better by anyone else (especially when you consider... that two of them were remakes anyhow, Which is about all Kong ever gets and even the new Kong as good as the CGI was in it... still was the same ole story... I don't see them having any plans to do another one... and they could EASILY have a money making deal on their hands... Do with Kong what Toho did with Godzilla... with some better effects).
One of my all time favorite Kaiju Movies is King Kong Escapes... I liked all the characters in it... they had great villains... the Kaiju (Kong, Gorosaurus, Giant Sea Snake and finally the uber cool Mecha-Kong) were awesome. Gorosaurus is one of my favorite Kaiju because of this movie. I loved it when he helped take front and center in the ending of Destroy All Monsters.
Oh yeah... I know they say... in KKE that Kong isn't Godzilla Kaiju size... and though he may not be... that may be HIS power... to grow... cause Check this pic out and tell is... IS HE OR ISN'T HE STANDARD KAIJU SIZE?

COOL HUH?

Anyhow... I wish whoever owns the rights to Kong would give Toho the thumbs up on a KKvG again... I would bet it would be spectacular.
...and I doubt anyone would cramp up with the suit the would give Kong or Godzilla for that one...

That would Universal Studios. Shogo Tomiyama (the head at Toho and producer of of all things Godzilla since BIOLLANTE) said that a KKvsG remake would be the most logical choice for a new Godzilla film since the original was such a smash. But, unless it was only Toho handling it all, I'd be concerned about the end result of such a venture with an American studio getting their hands into the project and especially the SFX. Sure, a US studio would give us better SFX, but TriStar has left a bad taste in my mouth and I have no wish to resist that God-aweful year of 1998 again. Besides, I want suitmation for the film, not CGI. Toho CAN do the impossible, IMO, if they let themselves to, and make a good, realistic monster smash. Look how close Daiei came with Gamera 3! Toho has proven they have the capability to do it--they just don't seem to want to give a long shooting schedule to a kaiju film which, more than anything else IMO, is what brings down their quality.

Sounds like you do not belive G3 is perfect...

I am gonna have to see G3. Lot of people seem to talk it up.

Besides. The first 'NEW" Gamera film I saw rocked. If G2 is good and G3 is better. I am definitely gonna have to take a look at the "King" of the Daiei films.

G1, G2, and G3 are better than G:TB. Realy, thoes films are awesome. Toho basicaly craped their pants when the first film came out. The CGI was better, we got actual explosions and not sparks, and Good siuts which we can see in the back of their mouth where their esophogus is. Not to mention that the monster sets were filmed with natural daylight.

G2 was even better. Esepcialy with the science behind the kaiju Legion (plus, I like how the Japanese pronounce Legion not as LEE-JIN but LEG-EE-ON).

But something, which if you watch Susuke Kaneko's kaiju films enough times, you learn his pattern. It is: action - smart explaination - action.

Well. I am not a HUGE fan of Gamera.

But that new film certainly redeemed him in my eyes.

I just never got around to seeing the other two.

The Gamera suit was superior to anything I had seen in suitmation. If that mix of Suitmation & CGI would be the standard. I could probably accept suitmation as a viable avenue for the genre.

I will have to hunt those two down. I am sure it won't cost me an arm and a leg to buy them. Especially if they are as good as everyone says.

Thanks for the heads up

Even GOJIRA is not perfect, and I consider that a step above G3 (even if by only a little bit).

That seems to be the formula for most Japanese sci-fi these days, no matter what the genre. An action-packed 5 minute opener to oull you in, 20 minutes to introduce the characters and lay out the plot, 2 minutes of kaiju-ness to ensure you don't walk out just yet, another 30 minutes of 'smart talk' or 'personal drama' and genreal build-up, and then 10 minutes of all-out monster smashing. Even TV shows in Japanese suffer from what some might call the "slow middle" sickness. Even G2 and G3 don't escape this. Same with several other Heisei and Millenium films.

Nope, Kaneko is alittle diffrent. The diffrence is that he does a smart explaination piece. The other films try to develop the characters and not AT THE SAME TIME explaining the events at hand with a smart scientific explaination. A perfect example of this is GFW vs. G2. In GFW, someone throws Mitochondrea in and we are supposed to be in awe. G2 on the other hand, has us look carefully at the Legion's skin and come to a conclusion that their skin resembles something like a solar pannel or something (energy grid? I do not remember). Not to mention that Kaneko gives us kaiju that have a diet and not just NEVER EAT, NEVER SLEEP, NEVER STOP. A good example is th the Gyaos eat paper, the Legion feed off of glass for the nest and electrical signals, which eventualy kills the soldiers.

Yeah. I think it would have been nice to see some of the Kaiju consuming something in the Toho Series (other than radiation).

Well there was that scene in DAM with Rodan I suppose.

Minya ate fruit in SoG.

Was Godzilla chasing Dolphins or whales in GtTHM? I think so. Not sure though.

Gorosaurus, Ebriah, Kumonga and Kamarcas were a given.

The rest... who knows.

Megalon eats his own crap, everyone knows that! :P

But realy, we need to see kaiju eat other kaiju. Or what about humans eating kaiju?

Megalon line cracked me up... but unfortunately... your probably not wrong.

humans eating Kaiju...

hmmm I suppose that could have happened after Godzilla Raids again and with Gigan after his defeat by Zone Fighter. They just had a kaijubuffet. Turtle and poultry (White, dark or cybernetic meat).

For that matter and since I brought up the bodies of Anguirus and Gigan which mysteriously vanished. What about the other left overs of the Kaiju?

What did they do with all that silk/coccoon that Mothra made in the capital? It was everywhere. Mothra is such a messy Kaiju. Did they make silk hangings, blankets, throwpillows, and other goods for sale to help fix the city the creature destroyed? LOL
