Personally, I'm more insulted that people still take Fox News seriously.

Wow. A comedian insults the Canadian Military-- on a Fox News "Weekend Update" imitation-- at 3 A.M.-- and it's a big international scandal.

Admittedly, it's probably more because of the timing than anything. A couple of our troops died in Afghanistan (http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20090323/repatriation_ceremony_090323/20090323?hub=TopStories) on Friday, but if that clip had aired at any other point, I doubt it would have caused such a furor. Which doesn't make the segment any funnier or less retarded, by the way - I had pretty much assumed that the entire Fox Network was a parody at this point, anyway.

I'm more offended that Fox continues to spread the awful stereotype that Americans are loud-mouthed *******s with an IQ level ranging somewhere between Neanderthal and wormshit.
Terrible, simply terrible.

Even if it is all done in jest, it's still not very funny and just sad.
Doug Benson (the comedian) looked stoned and just seemed to be going with the flow of the other morons. His comments were much more tongue-in-cheek and harmless than the horrid jokes these people tried to tell.
I think the whole thing is overblown and just a horrible piece of attempted humor. Either that, or these people just stupid and since when did anyone care what stupid people had to say?

Yeah, if it is Doug Benson, I would say he probably was stoned.
On the O'Reilly Factor, one of Bill O'Reilly stands against gay marriage is that if they going to have it, why not have three people get married. I know, that's a bunch of BS.

lol... it is funny that you guys are taking a LATE-NIGHT television show as a serious news program. That would be like watching Jay Leno and taking it seriously. It isn't meant to be taken seriously, and it isn't a real news program. If the host has comedians on the panel, I would think that you guys could put two and two together and make four... Was it crass? Yeah, it was. But come on... I have heard MUCH worse.
As for Fox News (as in the real news programs, not late-night crap nobody watches anyway)in general, at least they tell the story how it is. Better than MSNBC (more like BSNBC) or the ever oblivious CNN in any case. I won't defend Bill O' Reilly since I am not a fan and can't stand him (too loud and his temper makes him look like a bigger idiot.) But Fox News isn't all that bad. I know, I have been watching it a lot lately. Sure I was like everyone else not too long ago with not taking Fox news seriously... until I WATCHED it that is, but once Glenn Beck moved from CNN to Fox, I started watching it more and more, and I am impressed with their true news shows (especially the shows from 2-6 PM, some good stuff there.)
I could go on, but that should do.

With that in mind, I say the joke was ill-timed and inconsiderate, and Benson a little bit of a dick. I still maintain that as a comment made on a "lighter-side" show on a news network that most people don't take seriously in a time-slot designed to get 50 viewers globally, the response has been a little too strong. Particularly in the face of the apologies that came afterwards.

That's fairly true. I still have more than a modicum of respect for CNN, but after Morning Joe ends on MSNBC, I can't watch that station out of fear my eyes will melt. FOX News (the ACTUAL news part) is actually pretty fair and balanced-- case in point the election coverage, which I thought was well done (aside from the mopey chart girl whose demeanor indicated that she was a McCain voter), particularly compared to MSNBC. The fact that 90% of all FOX News talking heads are talking out of some other part of their body brings down an otherwise pretty good news station.

There's no limit to what people will take seriously, Orga. None at all.

It is because it is Fox News. Nevermind the horrid **** MSNBC throws out there with their insults and "I am greater than thou" attitude. No one cares about THAT (and people think Conservatives are vicious? Compared to that Liberal cesspool of a network, Fox News is sunshine and rainbows.). But because Fox News is considered a Conservative network, and all Conservatives are labled as evil, corporate-fascist, racist, red-necks it is fair game to blow things out of proportion by todays Political Agenda run Media. :hmmm:
Real Journalism is dead.

I wouldn't go so far as 90% actually. There are some pretty good anchors on the network. Most of the problems are in the opinion related area. Bill O'Reilly being the main antagonist really. Hannity is okay in small doses but sometimes he gets a little annoying too (especially since he won't let things GO... Enough with Bill Ayers Sean! The election is OVER ALREADY!)
But Glenn Beck is still the man. No matter what people say. He is awesome. XD

Your point? Try flipping the situation around, what kind of reaction would UH-MEERIKANS have if we mocked the United States military after a bunch got blown up?
If your answer is anything but "Epic Politcal Shitstorm", then you don't pay very good attention.

I was more offended by how unfunny it was, since this show is supposed to be a parody on the news.
I could go on, but that should do.
News outlet never "tells it like it is", they have viewers, listeners, and readers to appeal to for ratings and most of the time they gear towards a specific demographic, whether it's Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Athiest, etc. Just looking at the Big Threes website it becomes very obvious who they are appeal to from the word choice of headlines to the very stories they pick to be the top stories. Aside from the Bernanke trial (who is top story on all of them for obvious reasons), I look on the Fox News sight and read in big letters "BORDER BEEF-UP" with a picture of US and Mexico and some big border patrolman wielding a machine gun. On CNN the same story is off to the side and the title reads "Obama to beef up Mexico border policy". Both stories are about the same thing but it is no accident that Fox would make this one of their top stories complete with a simple, direct title (which leaves out Obama) and a man wielding a gun. Border patrol is a big issue among conservatives, the major demographic of Fox News, so of course the increase in security funding is going to be a top story. It's pretty easy to tell that CNN is not appealing to the same viewers and that is going to change what they are going to report on and whose side they are going to take.
Plus, how many Democrats do you see interviewed on any of Fox's shows compared to Republicans? Better yet, name any pundit who has a show on Fox News who isn't conservative. Colmes was around until he finally quit and he was often belittled on his own show by his guest and his co-pundit and Baby Limbaugh impersonator. You can ask the same questions about Reps on MSN or CNN. They all have their biases and the only way you can ever have an objective view is to read multiple news sources. That may not seem practical, but neither is the news. If you want fair and balance, then read every viewpoint and find out what others have to say.
But Glenn Beck is still the man. No matter what people say. He is awesome. XD
Aside from being a melodramatic doom sayer who uses people's uncertainty and fear of the future as a means to pick up ratings and popularity, I don't have any other problem with him. Though, I do have a problem with the former statment.

As Komissar said, it was more of bad timing than intentionally saying it because Canadian troops died. I already said it was crass anyway. And unless I am missing something, this issue didn't say anything about dead troops right?
Plus, how many Democrats do you see interviewed on any of Fox's shows compared to Republicans?
On the NEWS programs? Plenty actually. Fox always bring Democrats on to hear their side and when it isn't a opinion based show, respect their view-points most of the time even if they don't agree and they are treated with respect (something that Bill-O or even Hannity don't do on their opinion shows.)
And I won't deny that there isn't bias (because there most certainly is.) But you get more of the story on Fox (again with the conventional news shows) than you do on the other networks. They give a broader picture (even if some times it is not that significant.) That is what I gathered after watching it the last few months.
Aside from being a melodramatic doom sayer who uses people's uncertainty and fear of the future as a means to pick up ratings and popularity, I don't have any other problem with him. Though, I do have a problem with the former statment.
Meh. I do have to admit he can sometimes lay it on a little thick, but most Libertarians do. He is on point most of the time though and I do agree with him more than I say "Calm down Glenn!" (which I do.) He is doing some interesting stuff right now and is a little less doom and gloom (though he does go on about Socialism, which I personally think he has every right too the way things are going right now.) And hey, at least he tells you his view-point right up front so you know what you are getting into. XD

Meh....these are idiots. Idiots are as idiots do. And to those who believe in the chimerical fantasy of "Real Journalism," when mass media got started 110 years ago it was every bit as sensationalistic and idiotic as it is now. The difference is that today's mass media doesn't create wars out of thin air like the old one did. And that in today's West, the kind of nationalistic rags that predominated in the old school press are usually frowned upon after twice seeing what nationalism creates.
So....nothing but the Same Ol' **** in this part. And what's with hating on Canada and FOX? Canada's our *****, we should at least throw it a bone once in a while.

I'm siding with Orga here. it's just a late night talk show/parody of the news... it'd be like taking John Stewart's slant on the news seriously... which he himself seems to at times... but still... :p
And unfortunately for Canada... we don't hear much about them in the news... at all. Like... ZERO coverage, probably even moreso when it involves their own troops.
Anyway... sorry Canada. *shrugs*

Actually, Stewart and co. (including Colbert) make a lot of good points and it took balls to shame Jim Cramer and CNBC as a whole for how they have been reporting on the stock market lately. Which is kind of sad that you have to turn to a parody show to find someone who holds the media and government accountable for what they say and do. I know a lot of people say TDS is leftist, and while it is true that Stewart tends to lean more that way on his personal principles, but they still point out problems with this current administration too. Just without the yelling, crying, and far fetched accusations. Oh, and it's also funny.
Also, Stewart is a great in interviews and has very insightful conversations with people on both the left and the right and isn't afraid to ask the tough questions.

Stewart is liberal, but I love him because he makes fun of everyone. His show is funny, and he does ask tough questions to his guests no matter what side they're on.
As for the Fox News Blunder, every network has their share of idiots. Why you make fun of a nation who is helping us in Afghanistan is beyond me because frankly the US military could use a break. When you start turning the "National Guard" into the "international go wherever we send you" there is something wrong.
