Who would you say was Showa Gamera's greatest opponent?? Showa Godzilla had Ghidorah, who more or less became his nemesis. What would you say was Gamera's equivalent?
For me, it's a toss-up between Gyaos and Barugon. The other kaiju of the series had their moments, but it was with Gyaos and Barugon that the series was still a wee bit more serious than goofy.
Any of you have your own opinions on this??

I pretty much agree but I'd say that Gyaos is definitely Gamera's Ghidrah. Daiei obviously thought so too when they first rebooted with the Heisei trilogy.
By the way I love your sig image Ash.

Well, supposedly the original mindset/reason behind it (at least... according to one of the press conference featurettes on one of the DVDs) was because Gyaos appeared the most in the Showa series. Which is odd, since most of it was in flashback/stock footage. The only non-stock footage Gyaos appearance was Space Gyaos and he never fought Gamera.
*shrugs* I dunno... guess he had the bigger continued presence within the series.

^^ thanks
