View Full Version : Marine, American, Hero.

This is the short stroy of a Marine who saved the life of his squad by giving his.
This will probly never make it to the news, but us fellow Marines are aware, just thought I'd share it with ya.
Marine, American, Hero:
Mourners Saturday filled one of Cpl. Jason Dunham's favorite places - his high school gym - for the funeral of the Marine, who died in Iraq after using his own body to shield his men from an attacker's grenade.
The gym, packed with more than 1,500 people, is the largest gathering space in the upstate New York town of Scio, where Dunham grew up. His casket rested beneath a basketball hoop.
Dunham, 22, died just over a week ago from wounds he sustained April 14 in Iraq.
A report from the Marine Corps said Dunham was commanding a check point near Karbala when a man got out of a car and tried to flee. Dunham tackled the man, who then pulled a pin from a hand grenade. Dunham dove onto the grenade before it exploded, the Marines reported. Two other Marines were injured.
Dunham, with K Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, was remembered in Iraq on Thursday at a service attended by more than 500 Marines, sailors and soldiers, the Marines reported.
Dunham "never judged anyone and he never judged the people over there," friend Justin Lambert said at Saturday's funeral. "He was just doing his job. He's going to be missed."
As a long procession of cars and walkers accompanied the casket to the nearby cemetery, Scio residents sat on their porches and children lined the sidewalk. An American flag was draped above the highway.
Dunham's parents, carrying the tri-folded flag that had draped their eldest son's coffin, and their three younger children were escorted by the Marines to an awaiting car.
"The Marine Corps have really showed us how much this means to them," said Cpl. Dunham's father, Dan. "They've been very good to us."[B]

What I'm about to say has gotten me into several good arguments at other websites, especially with foreign members who seem content to bash America and our military and then turn around and cry foul when they get it back-but I have no qualms defending our men and women in uniform, because as someone who enjoys the Freedoms that someone went out and died to give me, it's my God obligation right to remember each and every one of our heroes past and present.
America has the best military EVER. One man would give his life for a whole company if he had to, and everyone goes home, and noone gets left behind, and when we fight, we fight like the left hand of God drives us. No finer soldier exists in the world, and that's final.
I was never in the military, but I want to add my condolences for the loss of a fine man, and I know him to be even though I don't know him, because his actions to save his fellow Marines speaks volumes. Semper Fi indeed!
The attitude these leftist sectors take towards our servicemen truly pisses me-they always throw their right to Free Speech in others' faces with their disrespect and hatred for anything American, all the while forgetting that American servicemen gave them the right they enjoy (and abuse.)
I won't get political, but if some of these little idiots went
out and did what some of our men and women did, maybe they would see that their freedom is anything BUT free, that someone went out and died to pay for it.
God bless our military, and the heroes of past and present, living or dead. No finer soldiers exist, and they should stand proud and tall, because they earned it! My condolences to the family of a great man.

That's really nice to hear, CII. Thank you. This may get a bit long, but I have lots to say about the subject of Freedom.
If anyone, anywhere, has ANY doubts about America and her past track record of good will, and the countless times we helped others and got slapped in the face for it, there's an article by Canadian reporter Gordon Sinclair, and it's called "America:The Good Neighbor" and was broadcast on the air in 1973, and, I thank God that one man told the truth and that he went to his eternal reward (in 1984) knowing that America truly is a good neighbor. And it's good to see some of you here know it too http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Here you will find the complete radio speech in text format.
I myself have no more use for the UN or the EU, or the way they have become selfishly isolationist towards the United States (or anyone who helps them) after all we did for Europe in the post WW2 world, esp. the maintenace of NATO, the RDF and the winning of the Cold War. Russian tanks never made it across the border to West Germany because WE made sure they didn't.
Now a BIGGER threat looms, one that has eyes and ears in almost every country, and with the exception of our unswerving allies in England, everyone else has backed out
on us. Nice going. We should be standing together now, because the safety of the free world is more important than that of a single country or a barrel of oil. But it seems that the rest of the world has been looking to "get back" at America in light of the freedom we helped them maintain.
The motto of the U.S. Special Forces is "De Opreso, Liber" and that means "Freedom From Oppression" and if Freedom isn't worth fighting for in this world, then nothing is.
What will it take to convince the rest of the world that what we are doing is right? Another 9-11? Or maybe a 9-11 style attack in Europe? People need to wake up...

And by your statements I am geussing that you think that Bush has always been in the White House? This also pertains to ALL service men who have served, all the way back to the American Revolution. And oil was the only reason. Not the fact that...well, there is no sense in arguing with you. But there is nothing wrong with America. At least we stand up for ourselves and for our ights.

Lord Mumfie, not ALL Americans necessarily agree with their President (or mayors, governors or elected representatives either) on occasion, even if we happened to personally vote them into office but that's not what this topic is about. Neither is the electoral college, which on occasion has not agreed with the popular vote. The key is being able to make these choices in the first place and INFORMED ones at that. I cannot agree with some of your statements but will back up your right to make them.
Our military and other sworn officials take an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States which makes such things possible. The ten amendments to it known as the Bill of Rights can be printed on a single sheet of paper. It says a lot about what we stand for for ALL people of the world.
Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness is another way of putting it. It isn't as eloquent as some declarations found in our historical documents but take away Liberty and nothing much is left.

LordMumfie?
Is that your real name?
America wants oil, huh?
And the UN "Food For Oil" thing was a straight from the hip honest deal? Yeah that's why there's a scandal over it now...
Saddam bought off your leaders and overcame the years of sanctions with kickbacks and buyoffs to make someone in the UN conveniently 'forget' those sanctions and that's how Saddam survived the ban...and the uN benefitted with more oil for their OWN countries. Wanna explain THAT one?
And as far as oil, ask France about THEIR behind the scenes oil deals with Iraq, ( 6 fields) as well as the possible Russian-German deals that were in the making. Why don't YOU admit it, and admit that YOUR leaders want oil too? The UN and EU are so full of ####e...I may be getting a bit nasty here but I'm tired of the left thinking they know the score when in reality the fact is is that an entire faction of irrational extremists wants nothing more than to destroy the West and her allies.
Leftists are so incensed with emotionally charged good intentions they won't listen to any kind of reason, and anyone that disagrees is an enemy-why don't you get it thru your head-we are at war with an enemy who dosen't give a #### if you care for their human rights or not, and YOU would be dead too if you were in their sights. This is a fight to the finish, and it will affect ALL of us in the long run.
I won't go on, because I've said enough already, but all
I have to say is that if you think America is so bad, then LEAVE it. And just remember who it was that made YOUR freedom possible not only twice in one century, but afterward and to the present. You sleep well in your bed every night because someone died for your freedom, and many of them were Americans, and don't you forget it!

Yeah really, and if America is so bad, why does everyone want to come here? What really irks ME is that the same people who use Freedom Of Speech to voice their displeasure are the same ones who enjoy their freedom at the expense of those who gave them the right to act like that, and don't realize that people DIED to give them that right. *
Someone is lying in a cold grave somewhere while these people go unchecked in their ways and attitudes, and when someone asks them to show a little respect, or a little restraint, it automatically becomes violation of their right to Free Speech, and they start whining, "oh, my right to Free Speech is infringed!" Why is it that anyone preaching responsibility and restraint becomes a Communist repressor?
Responsibility is the other half of Freedom, but you can't tell them that, because they're so incensed with the thought of repression that they think that they can just do whatever, whenever, w\o any right to answer for their actions, "Because the Constitution says I can." Responsibility seems to be a word that has faded from our culture, and it's a sahme that today's generation isn't taught to balance Freedom and Responsibility.

Fine by me, boss. Just one final note-why is it that America always gets the short straw? People don't seem to be aware of what we're ALL up against, regardless of WHO started WHAT...and all I ever asked anyone was to realize that defeating this type of terrorism will take a concerted group effort, and as long as we fingerpoint and accuse each other of personal gain, we buy the enemy more time..we need unity at this moment, not isolation. Case closed, no further replies.

LOL, this is actually funny. America has no need to buy oil from other countries, we produce enough of our own oil to not need to, though we could easily produce more than we do now. The only reason that we actually import so much oil is because if we didn't, who else is going to buy it? If we stopped buying oil, the world economy would go right down the crapper quicker than you can blink.

I'd just like to point out that the prohibition on slamming other countries includes everyone. Except France. You can rip into the French all day long and we won't raise a finger to stop you. In fact, we'll even turn the expletive filter off (we can do that, right Jeff? ). It might be unkind, I mean, these people do have to deal with the taint of being French to begin with, but somehow heaping further contempt and disdain on them makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
But don't go making unkind remarks about other nationalities. It simply isn't the decent thing to do. And, of course, political nastiness will be dealt with in a suitably fascist and heavy-handed manner. Flame wars are why God invented those little warning squares and the 'ban' feature.

That's cool that the two guys from France weren't happy about how their govt's reacted, but that dosen't excuse the overwhelmingly anti-American feeling that is being heaped upon politicians AND civilians alike. People seem to be unable to tell the difference between the two and we ALL suffer. And every time an America TRIES to tell them this, they get run even further into the ground. Who's really abusing who?
This is what we get from Europe for holding them together after 2 World Wars and stopping Russia's puppet countries (esp East Germany)from walking all over them? I am not ashamed to say that Europe owes America BIG TIME. Start paying back those post WW2 loans and leave us the hell aloneif you feel that way about us, just give us what you owe us and we'll call it a day. I'm tired of this ####, always crapping on us until they need a fuc*in favor (or some spare bodies.)
It always seems that whether it's Al Jazeera network, or the BBC or the EU, America is ALWAYS getting slammed because of the selfish pacifist isolationism Europe practices against us, as well as other nations (remember France threatened other nations with sanctions if they stood by the U.S.) and I just want to know who the fuc*in blue blazes they think they are?!?
I don't know, I give up...America is damned if we do, and damned if we don't, and damned for trying. Our 'allies' have all the bases covered, don't they?
