Here's another question for all you smarty-pants-types out there( http://www.rodansroost.com/ikonboard/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ), just who exactly is Merlin? We all know about the part that he played in the story of King Arthur, but what's his story? Where did Merlin come from, what are his origins?
Anything that anyone can provide would be much appreciated. Talk to me.

I've seen the made-for-TV movie. Is that an accurate story, or is it simply as good of an origin story as any?

Unless you go to a library, it's as good as you'll find.

<font color='#0000FF'>Merlin was a red plastic electronic memory game with little red LED lights..... I was pretty good at it.
...
King Aurther, and the whole sword is legend bordering on fiction, very fiction... so Merlin may not have a story more official than that TV movie.

<font color='#0000FF'>It depends. If you go by the most commonly recognized Christianized version of the Arthurian legend, Merlin is the son of a human woman and an incubus (a type of male demon that mates with human women), explaining his sorcerous abilities.
However, there is strong evidence that the Arthurian legend started out as a Celtic pre-Christian legend, centering more around Celtic theology, and that Merlin was a powerful druid.

Alright alright, let me get go into my infinite library of arcane knowledge and read what I can about Merlin. "People are thinking right this guys may need some medication. http://www.rodansroost.com/ikonboard/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
But anyways, Merlins history is a stuff of legend, but some of you are correct in saying that possibly Merlins parents were an Incubus and some human princess. So Merlins inherited his mother's goodness and his fathers magic. And so he used his great powers to save himself when he was younger. Now a fifth century British king named Vortigen wanted to make a tower, but he couldn't because the tower would crumble after that days work. So seeking out his magicians who told him to basically find a kid without any human father. Thusly Merlin.
Merlin and at 7 years old he told the king that the tower was unstable because it was under a underground pool. He was right, so after Vortigen's death Merlins became the adviser to three kings and to one one of the kings sons Arthur Paendragon. And in these years Merlin used his powers to do many amazing things. And even helped Uther Paendragon find someone he loved and freed her from her prison. Which was the night Arthur was conseived.
But Uther and his bride died, but Merlin protected Arthur. And I believe you guys know that story. But after this Merlin became infatuated wtih the lady of the lake. And revealed his magical secrets to her, and thusly used his knowledge to seil Merlin inside of a oak tree.
And that was the story of Merlin, which I got from reading my Socerer's Companion. Thank you.

<font color='#0000FF'>MY red memory toy never did any of those things.
Merlin was only the son of an Incubus because Pagan = evil devil spawn from hell, through christian perspective.
bah humbug... Im not satisfied with any of these explanations.
