View Full Version : The Heisei series revisited.

Here's something that I've been thinking about for awhile, if Toho decided to revisit the Heisei series, and make more movies that take place within that storyline, what would you have them do with it?  How would you continue the Heisei storyline?

Here are some of my thoughts:

First, I would start the series again in the 1990's, and fill in some of gaps.  I would explore what's happened in the years between 1995 to the present.

I would start where GODZILLA VS. DESTROYER left off.  I would show the senior Godzilla's battle with Destroyer (or at least highlights from it), his death, and Junior's resurrection.

Then, I'd jump ahead a year or so and show how Junior has settled into his father's thrown as King of the Monsters.

I think I'd make Godzilla a hybrid of the Heisei Godzilla and the Millenium Godzillas (specifically, the versions seen in GODZILLA 2000, GODZILLA X MEGAGUIRUS, GODZILLA X MECHAGODZILLA, and GODZILLA, MOTHRA, MECHAGODZILLA: Tokyo S.O.S).  He would have the same bodystyle and posture as the Millenium Godzillas, but his scales, head, color, and dorsal spines would be like those of the Heisei Godzilla.  In addition, I think I'd give him white pupiless eyes, like GMK Godzilla.  He'd be about 100 meters tall, although he's not quite as tall as his father because of his more leaning posture.

You guys are going to notice that I'm going to be taking some cues from Morgoth's New Era stories here.  What can I say, he's inspired me.  Hopefully, he won't mind.

My first cue from him is this: since many of the elder Godzilla's past attacks on Japan were driven by his need to feed on nuclear energy for sustenance, Miki Sagusa comes up with the idea to build a nuclear power plant on an island far from Japan that's designed specifically to feed Godzilla.  In theory, if Godzilla has a plentiful and readily available food source elsewhere, he won't come to Japan as often.  So far it's worked, but obviously the Japanese government is still keeping an eye on Godzilla at all times.  The island would be dubbed Monster Island.

I've even thought of some plots for stories:

1) Again, my first story would take place about a year after GODZILLA VS. DESTROYER.  It would be similar to GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN.

A year after the events of GODZILLA VS. DESTROYER, two new monsters are discovered fighting it out on an island near Japan.  One of the two creatures appears to be a new Rodan, while the other is brand new, and is dubbed Anguirus.  It doesn't take long for Godzilla to get involved, and before you know it there's a triple-threat match going on.  Scientists believe that the three monsters are fighting for the dominant status of a piece of territory that they concider to be their own.

Needless to say, the fight ends up coming to Japan.  Who will be the true King of the Monsters, and how big of a price will Japan have to pay for this resolution?

I can't decide if Rodan and Anguirus should be random mutations like Godzilla, or the product of genetic engineering.  Perhaps they're the product of an experiment gone wrong.

I'm thinking that maybe I'd make this new Rodan female.  It could be a nice change of pace from all of the male monsters out there.  Besides, I'm sure Mothra would like to have someone to gossip with.   http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

2) I'd like to be able to do my own version of KING KONG VS. GODZILLA.  But, if that didn't work out, maybe I could come up with an original monster that's similar to Kong.  Perhaps, a Yeti would make a good substatute.

3) In the year 1999, Mothra has returned to Earth after the events of GODZILLA AND MOTHRA: The Battle For Earth.  She and the Cosmos have been keeping a low profile on their island home since their return.  Then, one night, they sense that something is coming to Earth, something terrible.  They go to Japan and enlist the aid of Miki Sagusa in warning the world's leaders that the true King Ghidorah is coming to Earth.

The Cosmos explain that the King Ghidorah that was seen in GODZILLA VS. KING GHIDORAH was a mere clone of the original, and that the real deal is a far more terrible horror.  They say that King Ghidorah seeks to consume the Mana, the very life force of our planet.  Many worlds have been annihilated by this living nightmare, and they died terribly.  The Earth must be prepared to fight, or King Ghidorah will wipe us out too.

King Ghidorah eventually comes to Earth, where he immediately goes on a rampage.  He's confronted by both Godzilla and Mothra idividually, and he defeats them both.  It isn't until they join forces and work together that they stand a chance against King Ghidorah.  Humanity joins the fight as well by unleashing its latest anti-monster mecha.  I'm thinking about calling it Cybersaurus.

In this story, I'd reveal that the spirit of the Earth has actually chosen Godzilla to be its new avenger.  The Earth sensed that King Ghidorah was coming, so it took steps to defend itself.  Battra is dead, so instead of creating a new champion from scratch, the Earth chooses to make Godzilla its new champion.  It wasn't just the radiation that his father released upon his death that resurrected the current Godzilla, the spirit of the Earth itself was involved as well.  This is why the current Godzilla has those funky white eyes.  And, you can be sure that this means that Godzilla will be driven by more than just instinct to attack mankind from time to time.

As is often the story, King Ghidorah once came to our solar system millions of years ago.  He wiped out the planet Mars, then attacked the Earth.  But, then something unusual happened.  King Ghidorah found the Earth's Mana to be a particularly tasty dish, so he decided not to consume all of it at once.  Instead, he wiped out most of the dominant lifeforms of the time (the dinosaurs), and allowed the smaller ones to live.  King Ghidorah's intent was to allow the Earth to replenish itself and then return one day to feast on it again.  That day is now.

Also, it would turn out that the Cosmos harber a particular disliking for King Ghidorah.  They often wonder what would have happened if the people of Mars had had a chance to interact with the people of Earth.  Theirs was a wise and powerful society when they were killed off.  How many of humanity's soctial problems might have been solved if we had had the people of Mars to teach us?  What might we have learned from them, and they from us, if we had had a chance to interact as we were meant to.  We'll never know now, and it's all thanks to King Ghidorah.  What a jerk! http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif  http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cursing.gif

I think I would call this movie GHIDORAH: King of Terror.  It's a tribute to GHIDORAH: The Three-Headed Monster, but hopefully with a bit of a darker tone to it.

4) Japanese scientists create what they believe will be the next generation of anti-monster weaponry.  Using more of the technology that's been taken from the body of Mecha-King Ghidorah, they create two cyborgs, Gigan and Megalon.  But, the two cyborgs prove to be more animal than machine, and the scientists lose contral of them.  Torn between their animal insticts and their man-made programming, the two mechanical beasts go berserk.  Godzilla's going to have to clean house, and he just might have something to say to those who created Gigan and Megalon for meddling in God's domain.

5) This looks like a good spot for a GODZILLA VS. GAMERA movie.  http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

6) Another idea that I'd like to explore is pitting Spacegodzilla against King Ghidorah.  Why would they fight eachother?  The answer is simple, and fairly primal in nature. Both King Ghidorah and Spacegodzilla recognize eachother as powerful predatory lifeforms.  As such, they see eachother as competition.  And, they won't tollerate competition.  So, they try to kill eachother in an attempt to remove that competition.

Caught in between these two dueling titans is a small planet inhabited by a sentient alien race.  These aliens are extremely advanced, but they seem to be powerless to deal with the crisis at hand.  The waring space monsters end up on the aliens' homeworld, and continue to battle it out across the planet, destroying everything in their path.  As the battle rages on, the alien race must find a way to stay alive, and with luck rid their world of both menaces, before their world goes up in smoke.

Of course, Spacegodzilla would need to be resurrected for this fight, but I'm sure I can figure something out.  If Clint can bring Spacegodzilla back, so can I.  http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/darklord.gif

So, what do you guys think of my ideas?  Any suggestions?  And, what are some of your ideas?  Talk to me.

Thanks for the compliments kent.  And, I look forward to reading your ideas.

Doesn't anyone else have anything to say?  I'm crushed.
