I've been reading in the GFW thread and some other threads on the forum, and I see a lot of people don't seem to be thrilled with mechas.
I'm just curious as to why you feel that way?

Im not too thrilled by them because they're normal. Mechagodzilla is used so much that I dont get excited when people talk about it.

<font color='#0000FF'>We have mad Mechagodzilla two years in a row. I can take Mothra, mabey Ghidorah, but thats enough mech for me. Thats more and likely why.

Because mechs are starting to take over the movies remember the rumored idea for Toho's 50th with all the mechs? http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

<font color='#728FCE'>I liked that idea about the army of Mech-monsters they should really make a movie out of it after they come back to the series -hey by the way where are those topics? I don't see them anywhere on the board.

Like others stated, the mechanical counterpart thing has been done to death... even outside of kaiju movies.

Done to death? This is something I don't understand. How can mechs be done to death within the past several years? Even in non-kaiju films? Some people say that since Mechagodzilla was in two consecutive Godzilla films that mechs are overdone in the series now. What?
So I guess we should have been tired of King Ghidorah in Invasion of Astro Monster and Monster Zero. Comments like these ballfe me because I can't see why, other than one's personal taste, on how mechs are being overused?!

I just meant that in several movies and series, also outside of the Godzilla movies, the plot of using a mechanical counterpart to fight and hopefully destroy the original has been used alot over the years. Same goes for the evil twin plot. (Hello Spacegoji)

I can't see how people can be sick of Mechagodzilla, when there are kaiju like Mothra and Ghidorah going into the movie right beside him.
I'd prefer having a Mechagodzilla in a movie to having Ghidorah or Mothra in one!

I really see no problems with Mechas, but I definitely prefer flesh and bone monsters more. Lately however, Toho needs to find a new and original origin for a mecha. For exmaple, most mechas just have the origin that the government created them to fight against Godzilla. We need some new mechas created by aliens, etc.!
And yes, I'm one of those people that are very tired of the overuse of Mechagodzilla. Thank god he is not in GFW otherwise he would steal the show from Rodan, Gorosaurus, Manda, and Rodan!

heres my reasons for not liking mechs as much
1) mecha king ghidorah SUCKED. he ruined godzillas greatest foe by turning him into a wuss. i mean ghidorah lasted like 2 minutes before getting beat down. then they recover him and give him upgrades. dumb.
2)mechagodzilla is just a ROBOT GODZILLA we already have godzilla in the movie. yes i do like mechagodzilla but it gets a little old seeing him because hes a robot with no personality really. (i know kiryu sorta did.)
3)moguera could have been better...it has wider hips than roseanne...i guess he needs to lay of the...do-nuts and bolts or something.
basically mechs havent been that great. mechagodzilla is by far the best one but in the past two incarnations didnt have much personality...i mean even kiryu never convinced me it was alive inside. the original for some reason makes me believe its thinking and not just being controlled by the aliens. moguera was nice but could have been better. my view on mechs is this...id like to see a NEW mech that isnt based on A MONSTER WE ALREADY HAVE. no mecha-anguirus or crap like that. give it a good design and personality to it. then ill enjoy watching them again.

<font color='#0000FF'>At any rate.
Don't hate 'em- but they do tend to fall by the wayside. I can't think of one mecha that has survived its movie in an even remotely battle-worthy state.
Whole theme of "humanity is no match for the fury of nature," or some such.

<font color='#000080'>Because Mech take away from the seriousness of the film. Many of the Hesei and Shinsei era films had a very convincing backstory that made it easy to buy into. You almost believed that it was possible. Until a giant robot which even had it's own computer generated roar stepped in and started doing as much, if not more damage than the monster it was designed to fight. Besides, if you have technology THAT advanced, why not build some sort of super cannon or laser-sattelite and destroy the Kaiju that way? Introducing a mechanical counterpart is just plain illogical.
Don't get me wrong: I love MechaG, Mogera, and yes, I liked Mecha King Ghidorah, so bite me. He actually made a bit of sense. I also love the look of Kiryu, so I don't hate Mech, I just think they need to be left alone for a loooong time. The Super X3 was a much more logical peice of weaponry, and would be much more likey to be created if Godzilla were ever to somehow come into existance in the real world.
My point is that Mech are illogical. Not unlikable, but illogical. Annoying at worst, and by now, I think we're all ready for something new.

<font color='#0000FF'>I love mechas. They're awesome. But I agree that because MG was used so much that it's nothing really special anymore. Toho films are stacked full of mechas. But I still think they are really cool.
