<font color='#000F22'>I haven't seen any of them save for R1, but from what I hear:
-The R1 DVD has the best picture and sound.
-The R2 DVD has the best in the way of extras.
-The R3 DVD has the worst transfer.

G2K: Region 1

Pros: Awesome picture quality and sound.
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;A great commentary by Michael.
Cons: Not much of the extras.
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

G2K: Region 2

Pros: Nice Extras
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Superior Sound
Cons: The Picture Quality!!! BOO!!! http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/nonono2.gif

G2K: Region 3

Pros: Good Sound
Cons: Not much extras
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; The picture quality

I can't comment on the R2; I don't buy Toho DVD's because they're so expensive and they don't have subtitles. &nbsp; The R1 (Sony) is the dubbed, edited US version. &nbsp; It has commentary, some trailers, and a brief look at some FX being filmed. &nbsp;Picture and sound are very good. &nbsp; The R3 (Universe) is uncut and subtitled, but you can only access the English subs when listening to the Chinese dub! &nbsp; It has a trailer, and the picture isn't very good. &nbsp; There's also a Korean version, but it's fullscreen, so forget it.

Go region 1.

Reaper, as a warning, you may not want to mention G98 around here, for your sake... ;)

anyways, Walmart is known for having $5 DVDs. me and my uncle make it a habit of buying a $5 DVD at Wal Mart each time we get together. last time it was: Dave.

Today I was able to find a copy of Godzilla 200 at Walmart for $5.50. But it was the first time that I actually saw that movie there. It is almost like they waited to put it in the bargain bin. I also found the deluxe widescreen copy of GINO. I bought it because I would rather have widescreen than the full screen they will now start to make.

I paid 20.00 dollars for mine at Barnes and Nobles back in January because it is very scarce in duluth.

It is the most complete american Godzilla DVD on the market today.

This came from the Monster Zero Message Boards

Concerning the G2000 DVD; I spoke to Mike Schlesinger today and he said its the exact same disc that was released before. The info listed for that DVD was pulled from the old specs and is incorrect... meaning no Japanese version and no international dub.

Sorry, guys. Bring out the tissues.

And you'd want the internatanal dub Why?
 Subtitled bootleg from that nice company we aren't aloud to talk about anymore.

Everyone who's seen the Japanese version, usually say they don't like it, and that the U.S. cut is better.

The only thing the Japanese version has on the US cut, is the serious and non cheesified diolouge.

Yeah, basically. Plus, Orga sounds much cooler in the US version (the Japanese version uses Death Ghidorah's roar).

True, but I still wanted to see the uncut version. Oh well.

Yeah, it's really horrible, but look at the bright side! We'll have Godzilla: Tokyo SOS, with extra features!

Oh well. I really don't watch the Japanese language films anyways because I hate reading subtitles as I am watching the film. I just can't do both. Just me I guess. But like Cookson said, our collections will grow in one more day!!

Which is why I prefer the ORIGINAL version. The opening sequences set us up for a SERIOUS film and the characters are strong, the plot devices well thought out, etc. G can handle his own quite well (as we see at the end!) without having to "dumb down" the humans with inane dialogue that in several cases completely destroys their credibility. Having to put up with bad dubbing through an ENTIRE film is quite grating on the senses IMO and destroys one's enjoyment of the story and other elements.
I agree. I own the uncut Hong Kong release myself - you can play it in either Japanese with Chinese subtitles, or Cantonese with English subtitles. The Cantonese dubbing's not bad, but it's still not a patch on the original Japanese. Nowadays I've seen enough of the Cantonese/English subtitle version to understand what's been said, so I can watch the film in Japanese with no regrets.

I actually prefer the more serious direction that this version took - the high cheesiness of most of the earlier films is what actually put me off them until now (though I suppose I'll have to sit through a cheesier Godzilla film at some point, won't I?). I don't know, I just enjoyed it more - the characters were strong (well, except Katagiri), the plot flowed smoothly with no glaring plot holes... Seeing this version, I really believe camping it up would've just killed it. That's just my opinion, and I know some of those who've seen the American dubbed release will disagree with me, but my opinion stands on this one.

As to the matter of Orga's roar... am I the only one who actually think the original one's more appropriate? Don't forget, Orga's meant to be a seriously deformed version of Godzilla (a bit like the American Godzilla - please don't kill me:p ), so it's only appropriate that he try to sound like Godzilla and get that wrong as well.

Good thing I didnt buy it. I would gotten my blowtorch and melted that worthless piece of plastic. Us fans should complain to sony, write a petetion or something noble like that. I did write in one for the classic media Godzilla DVD's that has been released because of fan action. It might work.

The G2000 DVD is definitely not a "worthless piece of plastic". First of all, Toho prefers the American cut to their own version, so Sony did something right. Secondly, the DVD has one GREAT extra... a commentary by Mike Schlesinger and some of the Sony team providing background info on the film and details on all the changes done for the American release. This has never been done before and it is fascinating to listen to.

Why? The whole point of the Godzilla DVD boxed sets was to sell off old DVD backstock like the G2000 DVDs. There were never any plans to do new versions of old releases.
