There are so many monsters in GFW, and it makes you wonder, will they all fight Godzilla, or will some fight eachother and one of them be killed in the process? If they did fight against eachother, which monsters do you think would fight eachother, and which ones do you think would fight Godzilla?

Well we all know Godzilla is going to fight all the monsters on list.

How do you know that?

Because it stands for reason.

For the love of God, I hope not. It'd be a waste bordering on criminal if Godzilla was the only one the other monsters fought. There are so many fanboy wet dream kaiju fights here that could be realized, let's hope and pray Toho makes 'em happen. Just imagine:
Hedorah vs King Caesar
Angilas vs Kumonga
Manda vs Ebirah
Rodan vs Hedorah
Kamakiras vs Mothra
Manda vs Angilas
Mothra vs Kumonga
Gigan vs Minya (oh please, oh please)
And so on. And that's to say nothing about 2 on 1 battles, four-kaiju fights, or a potential battle royale against Monster X (ala King Ghidorah in DAM).

Theres not going to be tag team fights.
Even though I would love to se these kaiju fight the other kaiju I think Godzilla and Monster X are the ones that will be fighting other kaiju. Godzilla kills five and Monster X kills 5.

Did I miss that part of the press release?

^Thats what I think. I dont want to se tag team battles in the movie. Tag Battles had it's chance in the showa era and did ok. But it's 2004 and the movie is going to be in theaters in the U.S. do you think they will have Godzilla have friends in his very possible last movie I no I dont. I want Godzilla to fight the kaiju one on one and no tag team.

Well, I wouldn't count on an American theatrical release. Even if that does happen, I doubt that Toho is tailoring its wants around that fact. I mean, exactly two Godzilla movies have seen American theatrical releases in the past 20 years. Even the acclaimed GMK went straight to video here, and I think we're lucky to get that much.
And I didn't mean I wanted Godzilla to have "friends". That's not too likely if the rumored plot (Minya being killed sending Goji into a vicious rampage) is true. But I do hope to see a few fights that don't include Godzilla or Monster X. This is the last chance for a while for Toho to really stretch its imagination, and I hope they run with it.

I think we can narrow down the list of who fights who by taking a look at this one. It's a list of the kaiju actors, and as you can see, some are playing more then one kaiju, which therefore means two things:
1. some kaiju won't be in the film very much, and...
2. some kaiju will not be fighting eachother (i.e. Anguirus vs. Hedorah).
Godzilla; Suits action advisor (?): Tsutomu Kitagawa
Angiras, Hedora, Ebira: Toshihiro Ogura
Rodan Minya: Naoko Kamio
King Seesar, Monster X: Motokuni Nakagawa
So, there will likely be, therefore, no Anguirus/Hedorah/Ebirah battle, nor any King Casear/Monster X fight, and no Rodan against Minilla.
Umm... that's odd. Where's Gigan?
I also don't really care to see another tag-team battle, nor do I want Godzilla to fight every kaiju, 'cause that's just silly. I have a good feeling though, that the last battle will be a one on one between Goji and Mon. X.

... which is the perfect reason why there should be team and multi-kaiju battles instead of one on one battles. It does not take up as much time in the movie. This is a two-hour movie; there is no time just to have one on one battles involving all 14 of the monsters.

Yeah, but GMK was not hyped as much as GFW already has been, nor was it celebrating an event such as Godzilla's 50th! We WILL see an American theaterical release, it's just a matter of _when_. We're getting Rialto's G54 in limited engagements, plus a whole slew of new R1 DVD releases by Sony & Classic Media...what else would they be leading up to? This is probably going to be a media event at least as large as that for the American "Godzilla" in 1998 (but a much better movie since this one will have the REAL Gojira). Besides, GFW already appears as if it's gonna blow GMK out of the water! It may not bring in tons of money, but it WILL come to U.S. shores once it has critics in Japan raving over it. I honestly wouldn't be suprised if they made it a worldwide release. I really don't think it's a question of "if" it gets here, as they'd be foolish not to cash in on a much-loved pop icon.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it on the big screen. But I still don't see it happening in America. Much as I hate to admit it, Godzilla's just not a mainstream icon here. There's a loyal fan base, but that's not the same thing. There'll be news bytes and maybe a newspaper piece or two about the King's 50th birthday, but that's all. For the common American moviegoer, the name "Godzilla" will more likely bring to mind images of the 1998 crapfest, not the real G that we fans know and love.
And it's easy to believe that there'll be no theatrical release - just look at Toho's track record. If there had been enough money made to warrant it, we would have seen more G films on the big screen in America post Godzilla 2000 (except the original, which only has very limited engagements in major cities and thus plays to a very specific market). How much money the films make in Japan has absolutely no bearing on their distribution outside Japan. GMK, G x Megaguirus and the Kiryu films made good bank on their home turf, but we haven't seen them anyplace but our DVD players here. It's all about the dollars, you know.
And as far as GFW blowing GMK out of the water, well, let's just wait and see. Sure, there's an impressive list of mon-stars, but the plot is extremely cliched - it's the kind of plot non-fans mock when they talk about monster movies.

Godzilla could destroy all the monsters by himself. He is extremely angry about the death of his son (assuming this is correct) and having him kill all of these monters would solidify him as king of the monsters for certain.

Why's that? Godzilla has never fought so many foes and destroyed them all. The director was quoted as saying he wanted a Godzilla who could defeat some foes in one blow alone.

If this stellar lineup of monsters is only there to build up Godzilla's kingship (which is hardly in question and hasn't been for nigh 50 years), then I'm skipping the film altogether. A series of monster slaughters sounds like, as ReaperGoji said, a lame movie.

Yet, this movie is Godzilla's 50th anniversary. These monsters were only originaly created to be in Godzilla's shadow in the first place. Why, in a movie of Godzilla's 50th, would we be seeing a bunch of scenes of monsters fighting each other that has nothing to do with the king himself.

Maybe for the sake of doing something new and (gasp) creative? Something the fans have never seen before? I'd rather see a movie which had the sack to do something that had never been done before than the equivalent of a big screen adaptation of Destroy All Monsters Melee.
Ah, who'm I kidding? I'm talking about the company that's reused King Ghidorah, Mothra and MechaGodzilla until they were all milked dry. I'm sure they'll waste their all-star lineup by setting them up like dominos in front of the King of the Monsters.

Its hardly an all-star line up to anyone who is not a Godzilla fan. Toho is marketing this towards the general public maybe just for once....and the general public doesnt give a hoot about Manda fighting Ebirah.

And Gzilla, have fun at your dad's!
