In the GIII, they called Gamera Guardian of the North (the tortise) and Iris was the guardian of the south (the Pheonix). I have a few questions since the east and west were the dragon and tiger.
1. Would Gamera fight them or would he have allies?
2. Have they ever been mentioned before?
3. What would they look like since Iris isn't a pheonix (but i guess Gamera is a turtle)?

Well, from what little information of can find of the Four Gods (the Four Gods/Guardians are from real world Chinese mythology, if you didn't know), it looks like G3 kinda screwed up the myth. Apparently, the Phoenix is suppose to be the enemy of the Dragon, not the Turtle, since the Phoenix's element is fire, and the Dragon's element is Water (while the Turtle's element is Earth, and the Tiger's is Air).
Also, according to Norman England, scriptwriter Kazunori Ito had indeed envisioned Irys to be a truely phoenix-like creature, but the SPFX department came up with the tentacled creature we all know instead to appeal to anime fans.

Iris was suppose to be an aquatic monster, from what I heard.

Thats true, the reason they changed the whole thing is because Daiei wanted to make Iris more of an aquatic kaiju and probably wanted to have the final battle under sea, but that idea was already taken by Rebirth of Mothra 3, and Daiei didnt want to recreate the whole thing. Thats what I herd atleast....
Anyways, im interested in the legend of the Four Gods/Gaurdians, I hope the other 2 make an appearance like Iris did, i dont care wether Daiei messed up the legend or not, i wanna see some new and cool kaijus.

They could continue the Gamera trilogy by having him fight the other guardian monster or they could even help him defeat the Gyaos swarm.

I've often thought that they could say that Irys wasn't actually the Phoenix of legend. They could say that someone along the line mistook Irys for the Phoenix. Then, we could have the real Phoenix, as well as the other gaurdians appear to aid Gamera.
