"Megas XLR: 8 Episodes this Saturday"
"Megas XLR" premiered last May on Cartoon Network and quickly become on of my more favorite shows on the channel. A simple minded but enjoyable show that combines silly teenage slacker comedy with Japanese style action and mass destruction based mayhem, with armies of monstrous opponents and the total obliteration of New Jersey happening in almost every episode. Diffidently the kind of insane stuff to keep me occupied until "Godzilla: Final Wars" comes out. I'll let these reviews listed below explain further.

For those who have not seen the series, or for those who are instant fans like myself, you're in luck! This Saturday CN is having a 3 hour block featuring 6 episodes starting at 3PM central (times may very, check local listings) and 2 additional episodes at 12:30 and a brand new one at 9PM which follows the 8PM premiers of a new Teen Titans epsiode and the brand new Justice League Unlimited. Here is an informative rundown of the all 8 episodes shown:
Regular Afternoon Showing
12:30 PM - "The Bad Guy"
Coop and companions are menaced by the S-Force, a team of alien good doers who are a cross between Gatchaman, Power Rangers and the heroes of Voltron, who mistake Coop's giant robot related bumbling as acts of evil discretion towards Earth. Things go from bad to worse when Ender, the arch enemy of S-Force arrives, who like some of the more impressive sentai villains, give Coop and Megas a harder time. Especially since Ender mistakes Coop for a fellow servant of darkness as well!
3 Hour Block / Marathon
3PM - "Test Drive"
The first episode where the multi-powerful Megas robot, a much sought after weapon in a war between the Earth Coalition of 3037 and the octopus faced Glorft aliens, lead by War Master Gorrath, is sent back in time to the 1930s, where it sits until modern times in a junk yard when Coop discovers the damage bot and after paying $2, restores it to his own liking. But as soon as he shows the completed machine to his slacker friend Jamie, Kiva, a pilot and scientist for the Earth Coalition appears from a time warp, demanding the prize robot back, as do a massive fleet of Glorft aliens and there assault machines.
3:30 PM - "Battle Royal: the Most Dangerous Game"
Second episodes in a series tend to be better then the pilot or premieres and this is no exception, as Coop is asked by alien sports promoter and celebrity Magnanimous, voiced by the man himself Bruce "Evil Dead" Campbell, to attend the Galactic Championships Fighting Federation or GCFF, which is the WWF of giant robots and monsters from across the universe. But halfway into the games, Magnanimous's true crooked business side shows itself and Coop may have to throw a fight if he ever wants to see Kiva and Jamie alive again! This episode features tons of giant characters, from a team of seven robotic samurais, to a massive black alien gorilla spectator wearing a beer-helmet!
4PM - "All I Wanted Was a Slushy!"
After some training in space, Coop and pals return to Earth and decides to get a Mega-Slush to cool off. But time and time again Coop's attempts to quench his thirst is interrupted by the Replicant Engineered for Galactic Infiltration and Sabotage Mark 5, or REGIS Mk 5 for short, a black spider like alien robot monster with outrageous nano-tech based regenerative abilities and sinisterly voiced by Michael Dorn of contemporary Star Trek fame.
4:30 PM - "The Fat and the Furious"
After defeating a horrifying Cheese Whiz Monster (who he created to begin with) Coop takes Megas and friends to a car show and enters his car headed robot in hopes of winning the grand prize. Unfortunately, Megas is partially damaged after the battle with the said 'fake cheese' blob and moderating the events from their ship, the Gloft sees this as the perfect opportunity to take Megas back!
5PM - "Break Out"
For lovers of giant monsters, this episode is for you! Billions of eons ago, a terrible Jack Kirby / Steve Ditko style space monster named Grrkek went across space and with his great power destroyed planet after planet for sadistic enjoyment. Earning the full title of Grrkek the Planet Killer, the infamous kaiju criminal was captured and imprisoned with many others in an inter-dimensional prison housed in a containment unit which looks a lot like an old school Atari game cartridge. Fast forward to modern times on Earth at a garage sale where the prison, mistaken as an Atari game cartridge, is bought by Coop and soon after...all Hell breaks lose! In addition to Grrkek and tons of other unleashed inmates, be on the look out for a character I can only describe as MechaGamera!!
5:30 PM - "Buggin the System"
While doing more training in deep space, Coop and cohorts stumble upon a massive ring shaped space station which is actually an ancient mechanized library. But like real libraries neglected for a long time, various pests have accumulated...in this case giant mechanical insect monsters called Book Worms, ranging from small babies to a massive winged champion of the colony. Did I forget to mention they love the taste of giant robots? Hilarity ensues.
World Premier Episode
9PM - "Dude, Where's my Head?"
A ruthless alien bounty hunter has come to Earth, most likely sent by the Glorft to capture Megas. Coop and Kiva could take this guy on, just one problem though...Jamie, Coop's best but not always trust worthy friend, has taken Megas's car head and controls along with it to go out on a date! Where is Jamie? Can Coop and Kiva handle the bounty hunter alone without Megas? And who the heck would be insane enough to go out with Jamie in the first place? The sexy and buxom alien cat lady from "Battle Royal"? Duchess, the equally hot female member of S-Force? A totally new character Jamie blackmailed? Have you met the Muffin Man?
I hope you guys enjoy the Saturday showings and can't wait to hear your opinions on it, though I must confess some episodes are better then others.
Don't forget its a 3 hour marathon at 3PM, with two additional episodes at 12:30 PM and at 9PM.

I'm recording!
I love this series, its the best thing to happen since GINO: The Series! Coop reminds me a lot of myself...eh, is that a good thing? Anyway, I like the Battle Royal episode most, awesome stuff. I'll be adding Megas XLR, Book Worms, and all the robot things, to my Monster Archives once my site is back. Anyway, I'm looking forward to this...

Yeah. Megas is one of, if not, the best tv show on at the moment that I watch. I love almost everything about. No....Stratch that. I love everything about this show. The various one liners, the mindless action, and the various paradies and spoofs that they pull off.
Great show. You should all watch it.

Break Out is a good episode with a lot of cool monsters. Grrekek and MechaGamera were pretty cool. I noticed most were inspered by real(you know what I mean) kaiju. Coincidentally I also live in Jersey.

You poor man! Being bombarded by more monster attacks then Tokyo and living in fear of Jay and Silent Bob or those hideous Aqua Teen mutants attacking or hanging out with you! :) Sorry, I couldn't resist!
Anyway, you're right that the various monsters from "Break Out" are based or molded after giant monsters from all over the pulp culture fantasy spectrum, MechaGamera being an obvious one and Grrkek sharing way to much in common with the pre-superhero Marvel comics of the 1960s, complete with overly fancy dramatic dialog ("you'll rule the day you meet Grrkek the Planet Killer!") and appearance that mixes muscular comic hero or villain with non-human beasts. I didn't fully get all the other inspirations or in-jokes, but the two headed monster fighting amongst itself felt like an Ultraman kaiju and the hovering green octopus alien that yells like a rabid chimp looks like something straight off the cover of a pulp science fiction magazines from the Flash Gordon days.

I haven't watched much Cartoon Network since they pulled all of the classics and put them on Boomerang. I'd have to upgrade my cable to catch them now, the money-grubbin' *******s.

It was. While else call it "MechaMegas" when it is already a Mech? And the fact it had the mouth? And I thought the credits resembles a little bit of Godzilla vs Hedorah as well. (Though most likely the end credits are a little bit alike in a few films).

This whole serise is PERFECT. It never gets dull. Its dramatic when it needs to be, funny when it needs to be, and just plain stupid when it needs to be. Its the ultimate rip-off of all the things we, as kaiju fans love: Giant robots and Mutants kicking the **** out of each other!

True, but in the world of fantasy such cosmic voids may lead to other dimensions and thus allowing a character to live and possibly come back, even knowing that situation isn't likely in real life.
And with that said, don't forget that Ender from "The Bad Guy" episode also disappeared into a reality sucking vortex, so maybe he meets up with Magnanimous in an alternate reality / oblivion and their working together to one day return to Earth and have revenge on Coop!

Last week's episode, "Dude Where's my Head" and today's "DMV" one are similar to the one featuring REGIS by having our heroes in a day-in-the-life situation while fighting impressive enemies. But unlike the REGIS story, "All I want is a Slushy" these two are better written, more exciting and funnier. I especially love the ending to "DMV" where the evil female bounty hunter's the four-armed rhinoceros like 'Garonton Cluster Beasts' turn out to be intelligent benevolent beings who were slaves under her mind control. And once freed, they politely apologize to Coop in semi-British accents and leave peacefully with the bounty hunter in hand. It was as funny as when Mecha Megas first roared. The end credits were even funnier!

I paretically love having some of the monsters talk, which is more in the spirit of pre-hero Marvel monster comics from the 1960s, with titles like "Strange Tales" and Journey into Mystery", then super-sentai / Power Ranger kaijin. Besides, there's been plenty of such beasts that don't talk, the Bookworms, the Cheese Whiz Monster and Grrkek's fellow inmates among them.
Tonight's episode "Junk in the Trunk" was another solid piece of entertainment, though focusing more on action then laughs, mood or wasting time. In the same way "Dude Where's My Head" and "DMV" were tighter versions of the somewhat lesser "All I Wanted was a Slushie" episode, "Junk" is to "Buggin the System" which featured the above mentioned Bookworms. Although the Bookworms were neat, I enjoyed the bizarre hillbilly style junk planet owner, Varsin, a little more and his large menagerie of scrap yard terrors. Him and his robotic masterpiece, the powerful walking heap of spear parts Franklin reminded me of the offbeat but still 'high' sci-fi alien villains of the short lived "Big Guy and Rusty" animated series. But Varsin came off with more of a humorous and likable personality. And for those wanting more traditional kaiju (I dig all giant characters regardless of what they are) we had Fred, Varsin's watch dog, a massive alien worm as big as that crater dwelling beast Han Solo and pals spent some time inside from "The Empire Strike Back". The best part was Goat tagging along on the adventure and the recurring gag involving his womanly shaped dream mecha, Darlene. Its also nice to see "Megas" play around with past characters outside the main ones, in "Dude Where's My Head" we had Tiny, Coop's friendly rival from the car shows pop up along with Goat. In "DMV" a cameo from REGIS's biggest fan, the spiky haired kid who says 'cool' whenever evil shows up. And now in "Junk" a surprise appearance from the crab-like alien garbage men who also made their appearance with the kid and REGIS in "All I Wanted was a Slushie". Hopefully this kind of character-based running sight gags and return engagements will be done with some of the past villains as well. Sure, Varsin basically got taken out along with his junk planet, but in the world of non-anal and especially comedic fantasy, which is what "Megas" is pretty much all about, anything is possible!

Tonight's episode was very well done, with some nice bits of character development and truly thrilling moments. As for it being the season finale, it appears there's one last new episode to premiere from all the online episode guides called "Coop D' Etat" in which Megas is the prize in a battle to determine who will be the new emperor of an evil robotic race. Guess this will be another mutiple bad guy / monster episode.

Well we have a new fan of Megas XLR whose even more enthusiastic then I am for it; my mom! That’s right, not wanting to sit through the almost 4 hour “Return of the King” despite her love for the first two films. And wanting something more exciting then “Kill Bill Vol. 2” which she preferred part 1 more, I took a chance and showed her the first two episodes last Tuesday. And since then she’s been making time to see more shows on a daily basis with me, even when I’m not in the mood to do so! This was an even better reaction then she had for GMK. Sadly while watching the series, she’s come to compare my first younger brother Miguel and me to Jamie and Coop, respectively. Is that a good thing, or bad?
The second season of this sleeper hit starts on the 11th with the episode “Ultra Chicks” and for those who have not seen it yet, either do to a busy schedule or simply because you lack cable (which is perhaps a good thing when you think about it) then I have something for you. Originally I was going to write a heavily detailed episode guide on the series, but stopped only after the first two episodes and been focusing on more important side projects of mine. The following synopses may not be 100% accurate, considering their first drafts and the episodes were fairly new in my head, but it should still give you a good idea how the show is like. Needless to say, spoilers are plentiful and there’s even info on the various giant characters found within them. Enjoy.
EP 1 "Test Drive" 5/1/2004
Synopsis:
In the distant future, around 3027, the planet Earth and its Earth Coalition has been fighting a losing battle with war mongering aliens named the Glorft and their various machines, lead by War Master Gorrath. In hopes to turn the tide, the Earth Coalition stole an Avatar Prototype from the Glorft and under the guidance of pilot and scientist Kiva Andrew, alter it with their own technology, created a powerful unlimited giant robot called Megas. But even this new weapon is not enough to defeat the Glorft in this point of the battle, so Kiva tries to send the robot a year back to the Battle of the Last Stand, mankind's last real chance against the aliens. But during some hostile interference from the Glorft, the time traveling device malfunctions and sends Megas back to the 1930s where it laid for years in a junkyard in New Jersey. Skip to the present where Megas in rediscovered underneath a huge pile of scrap by Coop, an overweight, video game playing, car loving teen who buys the damaged 80 foot robot for $2 bucks by Goat, a friend of Coop and the owner of the dump. (Goat is actually from the more reality based animated series "Downtown" that aired on MTV back in the late 1990s, which the “Megas XLR” creators were also responsible for). Now I'd call Coop a slacker type, and yes he does fit the role to a T, but he manages to fix up Megas with material from the scrapyard and replaces the missing head with a red 1970s muscle car. So we have to give him credit where credit is due. When completed, Coop shows the new Megas to his best friend and true slacker Jamie. The two then imagine of what they can do with their very own robot. This is an hilarious gag as we see that Jamie would use Megas for world domination and capturing girls, while Coop would be more benevolent, while still as destructive in invading hamburger factories and chasing ice cream trucks down the street. But just then, Kiva, inside an Earth Coalition mecha and accompanied by two EC Drones appear from a time warp and demand Megas's return. At first the Drones try by force, but fail at the hands of Coop's soaped up Megas. Then Kiva tries to use reasoning and tells Coop of the future invasion from the Glorft. This fails due to Coops less then capable thinking skills and after another attempt by force, Kiva is defeated. Amazed by his piloting and battling skills, Coop informs Kiva of his many years playing video games and working upon his skill. But as this is happening, Kiva tries to jack Coop's ride. Fortunately...for our two young present day teens anyway, the new Megas controls are nothing like what Kiva is use to, which includes Nintendo joysticks and a steering wheel. Worse yet, the time traveling mechanism is missing, which we find out has been destroyed by Coop in a very caveman sort of manner and replaced with a Hawaiian Girl dashboard ornament. Thus Kiva cannot return to the future and is stuck here with Coop and Jamie as the only hope against the Glorft, who show up soon afterwards. Coop takes the controls and battles the massive army...and causing untold destruction in the process.
Giant Characters:
Megas appears as its Earth Coalition version, the headless damaged version at Goat's junkyard, as Coop's *** kicking redesign and briefly, if not barley seen as the original Avatar Prototype through a hazy Glorft hologram. Multiple Earth Coalition Mechs are also seen, sleek white and blue robots that are like crosses between the Veratechs jet-to-robot machines from "Macross" and the Evas of "Evangelion". There are also multiple unmanned Earth Coalition Drones who are different and bulkier compared to the EC Mechs. Although they themselves are as big as we humans, the Glorft have various shades of greed and brown skin, red eyes, octopus heads with upright bodies, long arms and slither about on tentacles instead of legs, they're very much like the common look people associate with H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu creatures. War Master Gorrath, which that is his full title, as like in General So-and-so, is different from the rest, a cyborg who's body is a two legged machines with long arms. His head is the only thing of him that's organic and present and unlike the rest of his kind, his mouth and with it teeth can be seen and not obscured by tendrils. The Glofrt machines both consist of piloted armor / mechs and unmanned drones, some quite monstrous that can scream sonic sound waves. War Master Gorrath's personal mecha can transform into a spider mode. The ultimate force of the Glorft's war machines is the UMD. No idea what it stands for, but its all the various Glorft fighting machines combined to create a massive mechanical menace, one that makes Megas look like a Miro Machines Z-Bot toy figure in comparison to an adult human. Perhaps the UMD stands for Ultimate Mech Destroyer?
EP 2 "Battle Royale" 5/8/2004
Synopsis:
While hanging out in Coop’s garage, our three leads are visited by the alien sports promoter and celebrity Magnanimous, a giant floating though handsome head with tiny hanging arms and legs. Coop and Jamie are instantly dumbfounded by the alien’s odd appearance, but are snapped back to reality when Magnanimous ask if Coop can join in the Galactic Fighting Championships which is like the WWF of giant robots and monsters from across the universe. Hypnotizes by the challenge and promise of the GFC champion belt, Coop excepts and the three find themselves in a massive arena before billions of non-human spectators. As Megas battles one robot fighter after another in massive physical hologram landscapes, Jamie makes some bets in favor of his friend and flirts with various alien woman (the sexiest of which, for this demented writer at least, is a buxom gray anthropomorphic dog / fox / cat lady with brown hair). And Kiva goes through the remains of past mechanical fighters in search of material to make a new time travel device. Its on her way back that she is attacked by some of Magnanimous’s underlings, but the future human wins in the end. Meanwhile, Magnanimous speaks with Coop in between matches and asks his to throw the next fight. Coop disagrees to the crooked request and Magnanimous makes a serious threat that he should before floating off. In Coop’s next match, he faces against a team of five ‘Samurai Robots’. Kiva bumps into Jamie after being separated by his alien groupies (‘Foxy Lady’ among them *sheds a tear*) and soon afterward both are captured by Magnanimous and his henchmen. And held hostage over a quantum singularity (like a black hole, bout portable and with a cooler name) in order to make Coop throw the fight. But Kiva and Jamie manage to escape and Coop continues to fight on and win. This angers Magnanimous so much he has all of his fighters sent into the rings, many of which are barley seen for there are too many of which or done threw silhouettes. Coop wipes all their buts, but then Magnanimous himself steps into the ring with a larger robotic body to house his mostly cranium true body, and keeps our heroes and Megas at by with the Sonic Abominator, his main weapon. Coop fights back with his own sonic abomination, singing an Irish song of sorrow with a kareoke microphone stand, stage with shiny disco ball and massive speakers from Megas’s chest, obliterating Magnanimous’s robotic body and sending the corrupt alien right into the quantum singularity. Making Coop the unofficial King of the Galactic Ring!
Giant Characters:
This episode features an insane number of such characters, so needless to say the following in incomplete listing of such for this episode, but its unavoidable. Magnanimous is voiced by the man himself Bruce “Evil Dead” Campbell and even more outrageous, the character is even based after the beloved actor in appearance, the famous chin included! Not counting the massive army at the episode’s climax, the other opponent Coops battles individually are well shown, though lacking names, with the exception of his first challenger, the horned robot warrior armed with a battle axe and with red eyes, white face and darkly gray body named Super Nova. Super Nova is an obvious veteran and fan favorite of the GFC, considering his reception and that his accompanied by to briefly seen sexy giant robot groupies. In addition to ‘Super Nova’s Groupies’, there is a third giant robot girl of note, the ‘Robot Round Card Girl’. But unlike the two before mentioned, she’s rather ugly, in fact she’s your traditional old school science fiction robot, bulky and mostly square, and wearing a red bikini. The next challenger Coop faces we’ll refer to as the ‘Red Robot Fighter’ who is reminiscent of the Shogun Warriors and has a gold V adoring his forehead. Next up, Coop fights a green bipedal robot creature with two long metal tentacles for arms and a human-like eyeball for a head. I refer to this guy as the 'Green Tentacle Eyeball Robot'. The last batch of challengers before the massive army shows up are the team of ‘Samurai Robots’ and although these five crimson brothers in combat give Coop a bigger challenge then the past combatants, they ultimately get defeated by Megas. Although I wanted to avoid going into detail and the massive army of fighters, I have to note that among the many sentient robots, there’s one living monster. He’s a bipedal blue alien creature with two long squid like tentacles for arms and has a propionate swordfish like dorsal fin. The episode also has a large number of characters that are mentioned by never seen, when Jamie goes off to make a bet we get a brief look at the fighting roster and although mostly in alien gibberish, there are a few names written in English along with Megas’s. These unseen fighters are Headlock, 1000-X-77EL2, Slam Lord, Wreaking Ball and Blood Hammer. And finally, though certainty not least would have to be my second favorite giant character from the episode, Magnanimous being the first, a massive black alien gorilla spectator wearing a white shirt and a beer-helmet. He is seen through out the episode and at one point catches a ‘Samurai Robot’ when it’s thrown out of the ring. In comparison to the ‘Beer-Helmet Wearing Alien Gorilla’, the ‘Samurai Robot’ with about the size of a 11 inch, 1970s Shogun Warrior toy, to an adult human!

Actually I too got the "Mecha Megas" episode as well instead of the promised new one where Coop and Megas are held as prizes in a competition between evil robotic aliens. So you're not alone on this. As for what this King Gordy said, I'm guessing it another one of those condescending joke replies.

Not only are we getting confirmed new episodes next Saturday, but also the second season marks the return of one of our more favorite alien bad guys from the show. Here's what TV Tome has to say about "The Return", though please keep in mind, one of you particular, that this is not the schedule season premiere:
****
15. The Return
Coop needs to return a late video or else his membership will be revoked. Unfortunately, along the way he encounters a giant robot, intent on throwing down. But it turns out this robot works for none other than Magnanimous! He's back with an army of bad guys and ready to get his empire up and running. But first he needs to get the championship belt back from Coop.
b: 23-Oct-2004 pc: 202
NOTE: Magnanimous returns
****
See, its comedic fantasy! So characters can return from miniature black holes...especially those of popular demand.

Grrkek might return in an upcoming episode where Coop and pals take on giant video game characters. Three of these VG monsters can be seen in the new show bumpers, the two Mario and Luigi look-a-likes and a blue Sonic the Hedgehog / Crash Bandicoot hybrid.
Another character more likely to make a combat however is REGIS Mk 5, who according in an interview with the show's creators, may be coming back in an episode spoofing Pokemon, with Tommy, the little kid who always says 'cool' when mayhem happens and REGIS step into the Ash and Pikachu roles. Either expect this episode for later in the season or in the third season if the crew gets around to doing it.
As for "The Return" I enjoyed it a lot, action packed and lots of Bruce Campbell inspired gags. I also appreciate the fact that the more significant new characters like T-Bot, Buggra and Crusher, actually getting names! It was also great to see other warriors from "Battle Royal" make some welcomed cameos, like Super Nova and the massive Gorilla Alien sporting a Beer Helmet.
Also, it was cool to hear Phil LaMarr do the voice of the ridiculous, but in its own silly way neat, T-Bot. Phil Lamarr is better known for his work in the early days of MAD TV and as the unfortunate head blown off by accident Marvin in "Pulp Fiction". But he's also does a lot of voice work for cartoons as such characters as the title hero of "Samurai Jack", Wilt in "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends", John Stewart / Green Lantern III in "Justice League" and "Justice League Unlimited", Virgil Hawkins / Static in "Static Shock" and Hermes Conrad and Reverend Preacherbot in "Futurama".

Just finished watching "Rearview Mirror, Mirror".
Best episode ever. EVER.
I friggin loved this episode. One, it is a parallel universe episode. Two, it even uses the Star Trek episode name ("Mirror, Mirror"). Three, it was pulled off great. Four, Kiva looks like Seven of Nine. Five, there is an evil Megas. Six, there is a cool looking evil Megas. Seven, there is an evil Coop. Eight, there is a paralell Jamie (who has a Sulu scar). Nine, it was the first of a two parter, the first in the series. Ten, you cna see copies of people throughout the entire episode doing different things (like a Jamie hitting on some girl). Eleven, the credits was funny with Kiva and the Second in comand looking for the Captain and Coop. Twelve, oh, did I mention there was a freakin' awesome lookin' evil Megas? Thirteen, and an as awesome evil Coop? Fourteen, and the Star Trek Borg Kiva?
Best Episode EVER.

^Star Trek wasn't the only thing getting poked at. Did anyone else catch the Planet of the Apes reference when Coop first arrives in the alternate reality? "NO! You blew it up!" For fans of the series and those who have yet to see it, boy do I
have some good news. "Megas XLR" will be airing on weekdays starting
April 11th on the Cartoon Network's Meguzi block.
The show is an action filled and hilarious send-up on giant robots,
giant monsters, anime and fantasy in general and tells the story of a
not-so-bright, overweight, but ultimately well meaning New Jersey
teen named Coop who becomes the unlikely possessor of Megas, one of
the most powerful robots in the universe. Though not before adding a
lot of his own customizations first. Aidded by Kiva, a warrior from a
war torn future, and Jamie, his not-so-trustworthy best friend, Coop
battles a whole array of other worldly threats.
Among them are the squid like militaristic Glorft lead by War Master
Gorrath. Magnanimous who basically is the all mighty floating head of
Bruce Campbell, voiced by the well known B-actor too. Sklygar, a
short golden robot with a superiority complex and Spanish accent.
Grrkek the Planet Killer, a Jack Kirby / Steve Ditko style kaiju bent
on total destruction. RECR, a nearly indestructible robot built
during the highly patriotic and equally paranoid McCarthy area. And
Darkla, a sexy alien bounty hunter who commands an army of
rhinoscerous-like beasts.
However, as bad as some of these guys can be, they pale in comparison
to Coop's own clumsiness, which usually ends with the obliteration of
a planet...or just New Jersey.
For those who have not seen "Megas" I recommend it and trust me,
you'll at least get some enjoyment from Coop and his many
misadventures!

Question:Will they still make new episodes of Megas?
It has yet to be seen if "Megas" is renewed for a 3rd season, however the recent move to weekdays may help in the decision. There is a 'lost' episode, entitled "The Coop D'Etat" which although has aired in Canada and the UK, it has yet to appear here in the states. Either it will show up on Meguzi or on the DVD set coming later this year. Here's TV Tome's description of the unaired episode;
****
13. Coop D'Etat
Megas is the prize in a battle to determine who will be the new emperor of an evil robotic race. Can Coop defeat all the wanna-be rulers and come out on top?
b: 26-Apr-2005 pc: 112
NOTE: Did not air September 4th at 9:00 P.M.
*This episode was not shown on it's original sceduled premire in the USA, 9/4/04, most likely due to a tape mixup, in it's place was a rerun of "dude, where's my head"
*This episode aired on Teletoon in Canada on Nov 21
*Ending Credits: Shots from Jamie's Emperor daydream.
*When Megas is warping, he briefly appears on the home planet of the giant alien race from "DMV - Department of Megas Violations".
*Jamie's daydream of being emperor is a parody of The Duke from Escape from New York. Even has Coop saying the line "Your the Duke! A Number one!"
*This episode has aired in the UK on the digital Channel Toonami.
*Frank Welker and Peter Cullen who voice the robots Gyven and Zanzoar are better known for their roles as the voices of Megatron and Optimus Prime and many more characters in the original Transformers series.
****
If "Megas" has it 3rd season, one of the possible new storylines mentioned by the show's creators is a Pokemon spoof staring Tommy, the spiky haired kid who says 'Cool' whenever monsters appear (except Sklygar, who he just shrugged at, unimpressed) and REGIS, doing Ash and Pikachu duties.

There really is no justice in this world when great shows like Megas XLR, that recent He-Man show, and whatnot get the short end of the stick while worthless and uninspired CRAP like Zatch Bell, DragonBall GT and the last few Transformers shows keep getting churned out like mad and given great show schedules and whatnot. If there's a good time slot for them to show it, Cartoon Network moves THESE shows into it and not the better shows. There's just no frikkin' justice left in the world.

I blame this on two things: 1) the network executives for making such stupid decisions and 2) the majority of the audience that preferred to see crappy shows like DragonBall GT, Static Shock, etc.. instead of good shows like Megas...

June 6th, 2005, 03:17 AM
Actually, I think it has far less to do with audience tastes then the executives. These same people prefer to rerun preexisting shows and anime for its cheaper and thus easier. I say this for many of their more famous programs got canned abruptly in production for unknown reasons. Well, that's my perspective on things. Still, there is hope, the season 1 box set will be coming out in fall of this year and as mentioned in the past by the show's creators, the 3rd season should begin around this time as well. I think its a matter of wait and see for now. I do hope it happens, that Pokemon spoof staring Tommy the 'COOL' kid and REGIS the deadly nano-tech spider sounds to fun to let slip into unmade kaiju history.
