Hehehe, my idea of "Dinner and a Movie" is that people dressed up as Gorgo and Godzilla host a movie every 15 minutes and they cook a kaiju-related meal! An example is cooked Ebirah, etc.! Hey, it's unique and charming at the same time! And 6:00pm is the most common time for dinner for everyone to sit down and watch Dinner and a Movie! :D

Introducing the biggest new channel on TV...


DESTROY ALL MONSTERS! Monster Island Television


I would want it on basic cable, so most people would have access to it. I wouldn't limit the channel to only Japanese kaiju and toku. I would include ALL giant monster movies.


I would set it up like TCM (and how AMC used to be), with no commercial interruptions during shows / movies, only in-between.


MOVIES


Godzilla and Gamera would be staples, of course. So would Harryhausen, Kong, and the JP series. I would want to showcase both obscure older movies (like Pulgasari) and new stuff (like Garuda). ALL movies would be shown UNCUT (alternate versions like the Americanized G'85 and G2K would be shown, but nothing would be edited for content or time a'la the AIP Gamera's). All movies would be shown in their correct aspect ratios, NO EXCEPTIONS. For foreign films, original language w/ subtitles would be the norm. Dubbed versions would be shown, if the dub was different enough (again, like G'85 or G2K). There is no point in showing straight dub jobs gone bad like GMK, now is there?


SHOWS


From Japan: ALL the various Ultraman, Sentai, and Masked Rider shows would be welcome. Ultra Q, Johnny Socko, Space Giants, Specterman, Kikaida, Spider-Man, Sailor Moon, ALL Japanese toku and hero shows.


From the U.S.: Hanna-Barbera Godzilla, Tristar Godzilla, the old Kong cartoon. Classic Power Rangers (if Di$ney stopped showing them). I would get Kaiju Big Battel to put on weekly shows a'la WWE. And of course, MST3K (ALL episodes).


ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING


- A reality show where contestants dub movies / shows, build monster suits, perform in re-creations of actual film suits on miniature sets, and do other monster-related stunts and get judged by the audience.


- I would want to produce an American Ultraman show. I have a pretty good idea for one, very X-Files in tone, with hour-long episodes.


- Compilations of trailers and Japanese TV commercials.


- News updates (like MTV News, between shows).


- Making-of specials on monster movies, and special-effects in general.


- Digital Monster Island (C'mon, you knew it was coming!): An Ebert & Roeper-style DVD review show. I just need to find a partner....


I know the line-up strays from city-crushing giants here and there (like Masked Rider and MST3K), but the heart and soul of it will always be giant monsters (kind of like my philosophy for DMI).
