I say Mars Attacks, it was so corny...but so excellent. It kept up with the 50s style, and the attacks rocked!

What's yours?

Independence Day. That was quite a movie (even if it was loosely based off of War of the Worlds).

I'd say War of the Worlds. To put it simply, it is to alien invasion movies what "Gojira" is to giant monster movies.

I say Mars Attacks, it was so corny...but so excellent.

You do realize that the reason it was so "corny" was because it was a spoof of alien invasion movies and not mean't to be taken seriously, don't you? Just making sure;)

Mars Attacks. Thats what you get with Tim Burton directing.

I have to rewatch Mars Attacks...I saw it as a kid and hated it because I didn't like the black humor. LOL.

That'll probably wind up being my favorite. But right now, my favorite large-scale invasion of Earth is the first-season "Stargate: SG-1" episode "There But For The Grace Of God." It's like ID4 done on a tiny budget and better. You see small screens of what's going on outside (cities slagged from orbit by pyramid-ships, Air Force One shot down) but the whole actual episode takes place in the lowest levels of the Cheyenne Mountain Facility. It felt like huddling in a bunker in the middle of a losing war wondering how many minutes will go by until you're caught and executed on the spot. They killed nearly all the main/recurring characters because the premise is that one team member is accidentally sent to a parallel universe, hence the title. But what he finds out...his Earth will suffer the same fate, this is just a few weeks accelerated! All the alt-characters die horrible deaths to get the one guy back through the Stargate and make it to the universe-switching device...and on his side, no one believes him! Setting up a three-parter where he has to convince him and they have to find a way to foil this massive invasion. Good stuff.

War of the Worlds by far. Its the greatest of all times.

Independence Day or The Arrival. Both are real good. Haven't seen enough to really say though. V was fairly good as well.

Wow, you people need to watch more movies. For me it's Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Thing From Another World, War of the Worlds, the whole Romero Dead Trilogy especially Dawn of the Dead. Hey, it was caused by an alien substance, good enough.

Hey, I do happen to like those movies. "War of the Worlds" is just my favorite.

THE ONE AND ONLY

Independence Day still is at the top of my list for all out alien invasion flicks. Still thrills me everytime. Although that might change when Spielburg hits us with his take on The War of the Worlds. My second favorite has to be Godzilla vs. Monster Zero, Toho's first, and best combining alien invasions and kaiju genres into one. Final Wars has some big shoes to fill on this front. Although I think the three parter from the animated series, The Monster Wars comes pretty close. Speaking of made for television invasion epics, my other favorite would have to be the pilot episode to Justice League, Secret Origins, with the alien tripod war machines a nice tip of the hat to the H.G. Wells classic.

Also on the One and Only's list would be the 1986 cult classic, Night of the Creeps, in which the results of a botched alien expierment are jetisoned to Earth in the 50's. The results of said project turn out to be a brain eating slug which infests a college student who comes across it. Fast foreward 30 years later where(how it happened is never told) the same student had been put in cryogenic suspension, and is released by two phrat house pledges needinga corpse to pull a prank. Once getting loose the student releases more slugs across campus, which infect others reanimates some corpses(including an axe murderer:thumbs: ), and good zombie fun is had by all. You can probaly find this flick at your local video store on VHS, and its rerun from time to time on television. Hasn't been released on DVD as of yet due to issues with who has the rights to it haven't been figured out as of yet. A more recent flick that I'd recommend checking out would be The Faculty, basically its the "Breakfast Club Vs. The Body Snatchers" dealing with the outcasts at an Ohio high school discovering that the teachers there are aliens bent on world domination.

Toho's The Mysterians, Battle in Outer Space, and Godzilla vs. Monster Zero are my faves. Aside from those and War of the Worlds, I can't really think of any alien invasion flicks that don't suck.

The Thing doesn't really count, as it was an isolated incidident and not an invasion. And as for the Dead flicks, the alien substance was just a theory brought up in the first movie.

Hmmm... gong with actual invasions...

War of the Worlds gets the "Grandaddy of All Granddaddy" nod.

Signs was all right- up until we saw the stupid alien!

V- Niiiiiiiice.
