<font color='#FF7F00'>We all know Toho has announced that Mothra will be in GFW, but what exactly will her role in the film be?

Will she be an ally of humanity and help fight off all the evil monsters such as Godzilla and King Ghidorah, or will she be a threat to mankind?

Something to think about......

kaijufan1000

<font color='#0000FF'>a threat to mankind. these kaiju origins are being redone. what i mean is that these monsters will have mutated right when the story starts[i think anyway] so mothra could be a very small larvae gets hit with radiation gets pi**ed off and attacks the world. that would be a change.

<font color='#FF7F00'>I'd love to have Mothra as an enemy for a change as well.

I'm so tired of a little girl going &quot;Mommy! Look! Mothra is going to save Japan from Godzilla&quot; in every single freakin Godzilla movie with Mothra in it!

Let's see classic Mothra flying across Japan causing hurricane winds causing peices of buildings to go flying around!

I think Toho will find away for her to still be a non mutated moth, just like in all films. Face it, Mothra was never ment to be a bad kaiju, in the original Mothra, she didn't even need to attack but those men took the two girls. And they said most kaiju were to be mutations, not all.

Solar_Behemoth
April 5th, 2004, 05:31 PM
<font color='#FF7F00'>I gotta agree with MM, here. Toho does not seem to have any sense of originality for Mothra. Plus, Toho probably realizes fans would not be happy if Mothra is turned into a bad monster- she is popular as a good monster.

Yes Konga, but today, a Moth that sized would be crushed by its own weight so don't pull the &quot;realistic&quot; thing up. And I for one, hope Mothra retains her title as a good kaiju. Like I said, its not in her character to be bad, even if this is new.

PyrasTerran
April 5th, 2004, 08:20 PM
Exactly, to make Mothra destructive, they'd have to make her more ominous than beautiful, everything about her shouts good. They'd have to make the head smaller, remove the colors, make her look more like a real moth if they wanted her to be a mindless monster, which simply isn't Mothra anymore, it'd be a MINO.

<font color='#FF7F00'>If Mothra was a mutation in GFW, that is the most BEAUTIFUL mutation I have ever seen!

I hope she'll just stick to being a mythological creature like in most of the Godzilla films.

Melkor

Mothra should be indifferent to humanity just like the 1961 jumbo Mothra was. Basically, she really didn't care how much collateral damage she caused, how much lives she took as long as she had her priestesses back. An 'all-good' Mothra just doesn't appeal to me that much as a semi Majin-like deity wreaking vengeance on the populace.

Peace,

Melkor

From what I've heard of GFW, the world will be crawling with monsters. Man would indeed wonder in His darkest hours. In times of peril, there usually always is a light of hope.

Could Mothra be that light? Maybe.

I'd prefer it if Mothra started out as a regular giant moth, created by nuclear weapons. But I think it would be interesting if Mothra developed an intelligence and began to &quot;cherish&quot; Mankind--or at least, create an interest towards the tiny mammals... Though she wouldn't care if she just happen swept hundreds of people away whenever she flew by.

April 6th, 2004, 08:47 AM
I still think all the monsters in the movie will be evil. She wouldnt develope in time to be a savior when the movie is going to be mostly about Godzilla and Monster X.

And as for Mothra, I'd rather she be indifferent to humanity, as it'd make for some originality in her character for once.

It depends on her role. If she is a benevolent guardian, then there's a good chance she may not die. If she is a mindless destructive insect, chances are she will.

I'll never stop getting sick of the Mothra hatred, so I am hoping she lives throughout the whole flick.

And don't think it'll only be a larva in the film.. chances are high for the imago form to appear as well.

actually i agree with you.

i dont like mothra. but if she dies again it will be stupid. and i will again explain my reasons for being against mg in the new movie...some of which i may have been wrong about
1)to me hes just a replica of a kaiju weve had for a long time...this is a small reason but still
2)after mecha king ghidorah i started hating mechs...i didnt like what they did to kg...this is one of those wrong reaons. i will now try to look at them in a different light again
3)he was just in the last two films...i would like to see someone diff.

basically id like to see a self aware mg...kiryu came close but ultimatly the humans got him back...(as far as i know...havent seen gxmgxm yet) it would be kool if he was solar powered then became an independantly thinking kaiju...that way he could recharge...only prob is missles...

Now is it just me, or is that the frikkin GFW design??

the date in the upper corner clearly says 2003, and this is some artwork from GMMG!

Now does this mean they are using an unused design....or is this....like Godzillas artwork...just a place holder?

hmmm......

(Image from www.tokyomonsters.com)

now you see, I dont think it is a scrapped version:
http://img67.photobucket.com/albums/v204/Angilas/Mothra2.jpg
Note the blue circle, the head, antennae, and mouth design all stuk...the only difference being that the orange on the head was changed to black, and a more rounded eye...easily changed on the final suit...

Now note the Red circle....the feet are CLEARLY the ones featured in the above design sketch

And finally the yellow circle...the only diference is the brown ten was chosen over the orange...

yeah I agree (even though Mothra GMK was out on a limb)

which is why i put so many possibilities up there...but this may also say things about the art for others....like if MINYA, KUMONGA, and KING CEESAR just have place holding designs, since their art looks like the Showa....boy I hope so For Minya's sake

The GMMG Mothra is a sweet design and easily the best looking Mothra, so why not reuse the one from GMMG, it saves Toho money and you know you are getting an excellent looking Mothra, it's not a big deal.

Perhaps none at all. That might actually be the new design. It could just to be to save money, so that they could spend that big budget on some other part of film production.

Well, if ya gotta do something over again, you might as well copy from the best you've ever done.

Not a bad design to reuse (and MZ claimed that it was probably the best-looking Mothra prop of all time, anyways), so at least we know we won't get anything lesser than before.

even though I wish they had used GMK Mothra instead.True, the GMK design was one of the best. If they were to reuse it, just make a better prop. Is it just me, or did the GMK Mothra prop seem a little... lifeless... to anyone else?

dfenetly, the lack of fur made it look almost plastic..and there was very little head and mouth movement...

then only good thing about the model was the flapping of the wings was quite good...It's a great design and all, and I don't mind the lack of fuzziness (which probabply would've ruined the look), it's just that, well, like you said, it was probably one of the most fake-looking Mothra props I've ever seen. The legs never move more than once in the whole movie, same with the head, and there's virtually no noticeable mouth movement. Even the flapping of the wings looks a bit too fake for my tastes (case-in-point: watch the scene where Mothra comes straight at the office building where the soldiers are watching the battle, just before GMK Goji blasts it; the wings look like flat plastic boards, the way they flap).

You're a very odd duck.

A suit is something you wear. Mothra is a prop.

I don't see how this could be "cheating" since Mothra's in the movie. There's a gorgeous prop, barely a year old, that most fans think is the best Mothra design in decades-- and you're angry it's being reused?!

Some people just have to find something to complain about.

I would prefer if they used the "Tokyo S.O.S." design and prop. Not since the very first 1960 film have I been so impressed with the character and although not 100% realistic, "Tokyo S.O.S." Mothra is one of the most actively animated Japanese monsters I've seen, right up there with GMk Godzilla and Queen Legion. And so much so that I hope she's the standered the other monsters in "Final Wars" will be made to.
