It was confirmed that there will be an Alien 5 and Possibly an Alien 6 comming somethime in the future. Heres some of the data I have recieved:
ALIEN 5
Release Date: The latest rumor on the Internet places the release date as some time in 2004, however, that seems unlikely with AVP being released that same year.
Rating: Restricted, presumably.
Released By: 20th Century Fox.
Produced By: Lastest rumors have the film being produced by Lynda Obst Productions, Bedford Falls.
Director: Ridley Scott (Alien) seems to be the most popular rumored director, but James Cameron (Aliens) and David Fincher (Alien 3) have also been mentioned. Although with his feelings for Alien 3, Fincher would be a longshot at best.
Writer: Joss Whedon (Alien: Resurrection) and James Cameron (Aliens) have both been rumored as story writers for Alien 5.
Producer: David Giler, Walter Hill, and Sigourney Weaver have all been rumored to have interested in being involved in the production.
Alien Design: H. R. Giger (Alien, Alien 3, Alien: Resurrection) has been rumored to have interest in involvement in the next film, if he and Fox can settle their long running feud.
Original Music: TBA. Goldsmith or Horner would be excellent choices but are still just rumors
Cast: Sigourney Weaver and Winona Ryder have both been rumored to be reprising their roles from Alien: Resurrection. You can probably bank on Weaver being involved in any version of a fifth film. Stellan Skarsgård (The Glass House, Deep Blue Sea, Ronin) was rumored to have signed a contract to start in Alien 5 late in 2002, nothing yet to confirm this. (Note From The iT: I Don't think Wynona Ryder would return after her arrest from Shoplifting)
Storyline: The most popular storyline rumor has Ripley discovering an Alien homeworld and traveling there for a final confrontation with the xenomorph species. Another plot has the Aliens infesting Earth and mankind battling against extinction. Latest reports have the Space Jockey's race planting xenomorph eggs on Earth so the human race will be overrun and used as hosts.
There is not musch Info I could find on Alien 6. If any filim was just a roumer it would be this:
ALIEN 6
Release Date: None yet mentioned.
Rating: Restricted.
Released By: None yet mentioned.
Produced By: None yet mentioned.
Director: None yet mentioned.
Writer: None yet mentioned.
Producer: None yet mentioned.
Alien Design: None yet mentioned.
Original Music: None yet mentioned.
Cast: Sigourney Weaver has stated time and again she is up for a fifth Alien film, so why not a sixth?!
Storyline: Rumored to be based on the Space Jockey's home world. They are apparently the evil genetic creators of the xenomorphs and must be stopped before they infest other planets. Ripley will go deep into the Alien hive and defect to the side of the Alien emperor. The Alien wars are just beginning.
There is not much else I could find. I will keep everone posted if any new news is to pop up.
All Information I found was at www.alienexperience.com

<font color='#008080'>Well ever since I heard of the screen adaptation of Ray Bradbury's time travel/dinosaur book A Sound of Thunder was coming out, I was like Yah, now I won't have to go a whole year with no new dinosaur movies. Only problem is that the release keeps getting pushed back. It was orgiginaly slated for mid April but has now been pushed back to late August. Man that pisses me off. I mean 2005 is gonna be full of movies with dinosaurs. Dragonball Z, Jurassic Park 4, and King Kong will all be out, but I still need something in between then and now. I hope the release is pushed back up a little earlier.

Wait, there is going to be dinosaurs in the DBZ movie? Wait, there is going to be a DBZ movie? Wow, just... wow.
I am a little skeptical about this adaptation, I am seriously hoping this doesn't become the next 'Timeline'.

I am pretty sure this one will be a disaster. It's a little too early for me to be making predictions, but I have a gut feeling that 'A Sound of Thunder' is going to be a huge disappointment... I'd much rather spend my time watching 'King Kong', instead.
And DBZ is going to have dinosaurs in it?!?! WTF?!?!

Two 4 disk volumes of the 1940s Universal Sherlock Holmes series, starring Basil Rathbone and Nigal Bruce as Holmes & Watson were released on DVD last month.
The UCLA archive did an excellent job of restoring these classics for DVD. A lot of "Holmes purists" dont like these films as most of them have Holmes adventures set in modern times (1940) and fighting Nazis. Great acting, solid mysteries and nice action.
If you are a Holmes fan (and who isnt?) check them out!

Black Sunday was one of many favorites spotted in the Wal-Mart DVD Bargain Bin for $5.88.
Anyone familiar with this film will probably remember it as the 1976 one where the Goodyear blimp is used in a terrorist plot to explode during the Super Bowl. It has excellent pacing, edge of your seat action and some great performances by Robert Shaw, Bruce Dern and Marthe Keller!

Someone on another forum I visit said the audience went estatic when the Spider-man 2 trailer came on (around the part where Peter rips open his shirt, puts on the mask, and zips up into the air).
Besides Doc Ock, Spidey/Peter Parker, and J. Jonah Jameson (sorry, I had to put him in there) I think another interesting character that will evolve into a bad guy overtime will be Harry Osbourne. I see him going to the dark side by Episode III.......opps! Wrong movie!
Anyway, I believe this movie will be much better than the first one.

Intriguing. I hated the first one, though I am looking forward to 'Spider Man II' just because it has Doctor Octopus in it. The teaser was okay, though it could've been better. And nice to see little Harry Osbourne becoming less of a goody-two-shoes [ my impression of him in Spidey I ] prep boy and more of a psycho villain. I hope the SPFX in this one are vastly improved, Spidey I had unbelievably poor effects, in my opinion.

I got Millennium Actress on DVD for Christmas from a friend of mine who thought I would like it. It is from Satoshi Kon the director of Perfect Blue and Toyko Godfathers.
The drama and heartache in the movie is very moving. So much I cried for the second time while watching a movie (the first was Saving Privite Ryan: bad spelling bad) It is an Anime movie yet its compeling enough were you forget that and get sucked into the story of his girl searching for her love through acting. It was in some cinimas at the same time Spirited Away was out. Saddly enough Spirited Aways' popularity shadowed this movie even though (in my opinion) Millennium Actress is a far better plot and acting wise.

<font color='#000F22'>I got this info on Zatoichi DVDs from www.thedigitalbits.com
Quote[/b] ]We've said it before and we'll say it again. It's the little things that make life grand. The little pleasures... like steaming hot rhubarb pie, killer klowns, spaghetti westerns or a good giant robot flick. But nothing, and we mean nothing, is better than watching a blind samurai kicking all kinds of *** in the comfort of your own home theater. Todd knows it's true, I know it's true... we've even gotten Matt to see the light recently.
Of course, there's only one blind samurai worth his salt... the legendary Zatoichi, as only the late, great Shintaro Katsu could play him. Several Zatoichi films are now available on DVD, and if they're not part of your video library already... well, that's why we're your friends here at The Bits. It's our responsibility to remind you of the importance of such things, so your other so-called friends don't shake their heads in sadness and just give up on you.
Anyway, as I was saying, several Zatoichi films are now available on DVD, and more are on the way from both Home Vision and AnimEigo. So here's a freshly updated list of the DVD release status of the 26 films in this series.
1 - The Tale of Zatoichi (1962)
2 - The Tale of Zatoichi Continues (1962)
3 - New Tale of Zatoichi (1963)
4 - The Fugitive (1963)
5 - On the Road (1963)
6 - Zatoichi and the Chest of Gold (1964)
7 - Zatoichi's Flashing Sword (1964)
8 - Fight, Zatoichi, Fight (1964)
9 - The Adventures of Zatoichi (1964)
10 - Zatoichi's Revenge (1965)
11 - Zatoichi and the Doomed Man (1965)
12 - Zatoichi and the Chess Expert (1965) - coming 5/18 from Home Vision
13 - Zatoichi's Vengeance (1966) - coming 5/18 from Home Vision
14 - Zatoichi's Pilgrimage (1966) - available on DVD in R2, R1 distributor/status unknown
15 - Zatoichi's Cane Sword (1967) - coming 5/18 from Home Vision
16 - Zatoichi the Outlaw (1967)
17 - Zatoichi Challenged (1967) - coming in late 2004 from Home Vision
18 - Zatoichi and the Fugitives (1968) - coming in late 2004 from Home Vision
19 - Zatoichi the Samaritan (1968) - coming in late 2004 from Home Vision
20 - Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo (1970)
21 - Zatoichi at the Fire Festival (1970) - coming 12/19 from AnimEigo
22 - Zatoichi and the One-Armed Swordsman (1971) - coming 4/19 from AnimEigo
23 - Zatoichi at Large (1972) - coming 1/5 from AnimEigo
24 - Zatoichi in Desperation (1972) - coming 3/8 from AnimEigo
25 - Zatoichi's Conspiracy (1973) - coming 3/31 from AnimEigo
26 - Zatoichi (1989) - coming on 2/24 from Media Blasters
Z1 - Zatoichi Monogatari (1974-1979) - Japanese TV series/100 hour-long episodes - status unknown
Z2 - Zatoichi (2003) - film remake by Beat Takashi - coming in 2004 from Miramax
Z3 - The World of Zatoichi (2003) - hour-long Japanese TV documentary - R1 status unknown
As we've shown in the list above, Zatoichi's Pilgrimage (1966) is currently available in Region 2, but not in Region 1. We do not know who holds the DVD release rights in R1.
We've learned that Media Blasters has obtained the DVD release rights to Zatoichi (1989) and plans to release it on DVD on 2/24, in anamorphic widescreen video (1.85:1). Audio will be Dolby Digital in Japanese with English subtitles. Extras will include a photo gallery and liner notes by Inside Kung-Fu columnist and Martial Arts Movies author Ric Meyers. That comes straight from Media Blasters president Carl Morano. All of the other titles coming soon from Home Vision and AnimEigo will be released in anamorphic widescreen video, and all of the currently available DVD are anamorphic save for The Tale of Zatoichi (1962) and The Tale of Zatoichi Continues (1962). We'd love to see those remastered in anamorphic at some point by Home Vision, as they are (to our knowledge) available in Japan in 16x9.
In addition to the original 26 films, there was a Japanese TV series in the 1970s, featuring Shintaro Katsu as Zatoichi, we believe called Zatoichi Monogatari. Some 100 hour-long episodes in all were aired from 1974 to 1979. VHS copies of the TV series episodes are occasionally available on eBay, although the legality of these is probably dubious at best. We'd like to see restored, legal copies of the series released on DVD for all to enjoy.
More recently, a new "remake" film has been shown in theaters in Japan, called simply Zatoichi. It's written and directed by Takeshi Kitano (also known as Beat Takeshi), and stars him in the title role. We have learned that Miramax has obtained the U.S. theatrical and DVD rights to the film, and will release it in theaters on 6/4 (with a DVD likely to follow later in the year). The film is already set for DVD release in Region 2 (from Bandai) on 3/11 as a 2-disc set. If you're interested in this film, there's a great article on how Kitano got involved in the project at Time Asia online.
In conjunction with the new film, an hour-long documentary on the Zatoichi films was shown on TV in Japan, called The World of Zatoichi (a.k.a. Zatoichi no Sekai). It's available in Japan on DVD (Region 2), but unfortunately is not subtitled in English to our knowledge. We have no knowledge of a U.S. release. A series of three, limited edition Zatoichi Collection (Zatoichi Zenshu) DVD box sets is also currently available in Japan (Region 2). They each contain 6 films from the series remastered in anamorphic widescreen, but are again not subtitled in English to our knowledge. Together the three sets contain 24 films from the series, save for (we believe) Zatoichi's Pilgrimage (1966) and Zatoichi (1989). Each box also contains the documentary. Again, there is no planned U.S. release for these sets.
If anyone out there knows who holds the Region 1/U.S. DVD release rights for Zatoichi's Pilgrimage (1966), and the Zatoichi Monogatari TV series, please let us know. In addition, anything you can tell us about the Japanese documentary and the three Japanese DVD box sets would be greatly appreciated.
While we're on the subject, here's a little trivia for you. Star Shintaro Katsu himself directed Zatoichi in Desperation and the final film in the series, Zatoichi, but he choreographed nearly all of the sword fights in the films himself. He also produced several of the films, and he produced the popular Lone Wolf and Cub series of films as well, which starred Katsu's older brother, Wakayama Tomisaburo. It may surprise you to learn that Katsu was originally to have played the title role in Akira Kurosawa's 1980 Kagemusha (the role was written for him). It was eventually played by Tatsuya Nakadai, when Katsu and Kurosawa were unable to resolve a conflict in their work methods. Another long time Kurosawa collaborator, Toshirô Mifune, starred with Katsu in two films: the 1970 Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo (produced by Katsu, in which Mifune reprised his role from Kurosawa's original 1961 Yojimbo) and the unrelated Incident at Blood Pass (which Mifune produced). For those who may be interested, both the Lone Wolf and Cub series and Incident at Blood Pass are distributed in the U.S. by AnimEigo, and will eventually be released on DVD.
So there you go... everything you need to know about Zatoichi on DVD. When we learn more about those titles that remain in question, we'll post it here. I think maybe our next DVD book needs to have a special chapter called "Zatoichi Kicks ***". What do you think? ;-)
Stay tuned...

Lord Of The Rings actor Sean Astin plans to make his directing debut on the long-awaited Fantastic Four movie - if studio bosses give him the go- ahead. The 32-year-old star hopes to film the Marvel comics adaptation, despite facing competition from Traffic director Steven Soderbergh with George Clooney as Fantastic Four leader Reed Richards. Astin says, "I'm a friend of George Clooney too. I think he would make a perfect Reed." Although the ambitious actor remains cagey about exact details, he confirms that he under consideration to direct the mega-budget film. He adds, "Yes. I'm in the running to direct this $100 million to $130 million movie which the studio wants to release in 2004. I've got a meeting scheduled but I can't talk about it yet."
Think Sean can pull it off? Or should Soderbergh get the go-ahead?

I dont see any reason for Sean not to get a shot at doing this, everyone deserves a chance at what they want to do. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders, and has proably learned quite a lot about directing from his time with Peter Jackson. The only reason I could see for them not to let him direct the FF movie is that its a big time marvel title and they may want a much more well know director handling the film, which I could understand. But what the hell I say let Sean have a go at it, whats the worst that could happen, it could suck. not like there havent been a long list of sucky Superhero movies already.

I definitely think Sean Astin should get it. *He has done a lot more than just act.
Directorial Roles
On My Honour - Short film about an American soldier and a Vietnamese soldier who are caught in a trap and must work together to egt out
Kangaroo Court - Short film that he directed and co-produced with his wife, Christine. *Was nominated for an Academy Award
The Long and Short of It - Short film, again! *premiered at Sundance 2003
All of these were weel-recieved by those who saw them,
He has optioned the rights and intends to direct a major film based on Erik Larson's Isaac's Storm.
Has directed episodes of Perversions of Science, 100 Good deeds for Eddie McDowd, Jeremiah and Angel
He is a member of the Directors Guild of America
As he has an interest directing and producing, he will have probably picked up a few pointers from some of his 25+ films and television series.
Quite a lot for someone that younger people seem to only know as Samwise Gangee!

Wanna bet? At least in that film they got the costumes and most of the origin right. Word has it that this film will be a 'seriocomic' take on the FF with Reed being more of a nutty inventor type like in 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids'. Oh, and Johnny won't be able to change his whole body into flames, just his arms. He'll also be able to control the shapes of his flames. (Gee, doesn't that sound an awful lot like Pyro from X2? Originality, people...) Maybe one day, someone will make an accurately adapted superhero film (and on that day, Satan will be buying ice skates...)

I just cant see them doing that to the Fantastic Four, not to mention I could never believe that Marvel would let them alter those characters so drastically. That doesnt even sould like the FF, but some really crappy comic. I can understand them altering them a little bit, like they have done so far with the current crop of Marvel Hero Movies, but doing that to the FF would just be down right atrocious. I sure as hell wouldnt want to be the director of that movie if it happens like that, the poor sap could be brutally killed and it would be deserving.

I've always been a big fan of Ben Grimm in particular and enjoy the Corman effort at various points. Now we see the direction the script is going in and start worrying if yet another CLASSIC is going to end up so much HASH instead of bringing the original idea to even greater heights of amazing ENTERTAINMENT.
The comics used to be non-stop action from beginning to end. Now it looks like the film version is opting out for some stupid super-powered family hijinks concept, like the TV show "Friends", only with super powers. http://www.rodansroost.com/ikonboard/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

Remakes, making more moola off of someone else's already used idea.
Dawn of the Dead's obviously the most recent one in a huge rash of remakes lately.
But they're never going to end. Which can be seen as either a very bad thing, or a very interesting thing.
-Upcoming Remakes---
-Amittyville- So Far, or at least from my resources, no plot has been presented yet. But the original movie was about a family moving into a house that's haunted by former owners who were brutally murdered. This version can be seen as a more "Suspenseful and Tense" horror movie rather than a "Throw Buckets of Gore Atcha" horror movie. Mainly cause you had no idea what the house would do next.
This could be a cool remake, seeing as they can probably really go all out with the effects now. And even without CG-aided sfx, this, if made, will probably have alotta cool physical stunts with the actors.
-Bride of Frankenstein- Geez... shoulda seen this one coming. The original movie was about THE Doctor Frankenstein (and another doctor aiding him, Igor's dead by this time) making one last monster, a bride for his first one.
This direct remake's gonna apparently be what I'd call.. the "CatWoman" approach (yes talking about the upcoming movie starring Halle Berry). Basically having apparently no ties to a previous movie (last Frankenstein movie was Mary Shelly's Frankenstein), this one centers around a college girl in a contemporary Gotham setting, having suffering from someone else's memories. She's gonna eventually find out that she may have already lived once before. AKA: She's died once already.
Again, this could be an interesting idea, but then why call it Bride of Frankenstein? Unless there's more to this plot than what was given.
-The Fly- Yet another remake. The first remake was pretty damn cool (mainly for the transformation make-up techniques), but is a second remake even needed?
The story, if you somehow don't know, is about a scientist testing out teleportation-ish technology and getting his molecules switched around with a fly's. Now the first movie had the human get the fly's head and one of it's claws, while the said insect got his human head and arm (which leads to the creepy, not to mention disturbing ending. "HELLPP ME!!!"). The remake had an apparent combination of the two and gradually the poor schmuck transforms into a shambling shadow of a former man whose more of a fly now, with lotsa gore added in. Only difference in this one apparently is that the Fly will probably actually FLY in this one.
I'm not holding my breath.
-Invasion of the Body Snatchers- YET ANOTHER Remake of this flick. What is this? the third or fourth remake now?
The original story's about a small town being slowly overtaken by creatures from another world that take on the form of their victims. Basically meant to be a parallel about the Red Scare and how you couldn't know if your neighbor was really your friend or a dirty communist. Knowing ####### movie directors, this'll probably be a perspective on the Homeland Security thing currently going on.
Again, I'm not holding my breath, more like wishing they'd stop remaking THIS MOVIE.
-It's Alive- Something "new". The original was about a mutant baby monster with a natural appetite for killing.
This could use a bit of a make-over, I remember seeing pictures from the first one. Maybe finally have what they originally intended this little ebil rugrat to look like.
But of course it'll probably suck.
-Pet Semetary- Based on the Stephen King Book about an indian burial ground that brings back alive those (human or animal) buried in it. Only with the slight side-effect of making them PURE EVIL!! BOOGA BOOGA!!! http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/skull.gif
Course King's been making some remakes lately of his past book-to-film movies. So I'm not surprised he/they'd make one off of one of the more successful movie adaptations of King's books.
-Prom Night- Yep... probably have Jamie Lee Curtis in some kind of role in this. Long shot would have Leslie Neilson in some role too.
Prom Night's one of the better remembered slasher flicks, and like Halloween and Psycho, it gets nods and homages and parodies made of it as well in later movies.
Basically, the original story's about the repurcussions of four friends actions that resulted in someone's murder and the obvious pact made to hide the truth. Yes, I Know What You Did Last Summer is a rip-off of this movie, even has a prom queen in it too *http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dozingoff.gif .
-The Wicker Man- The original was about a police investigator finding himself stuck on an island ruled by a pagan society. It's one of the more original horror movies of it's time.
It's remake is apparently going to be about a policeman (so far being played by Nicholas Cage) finding himself on a small island ruled by a matriarchal society run by women who are direct descendants of pilgrims. *http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif *Weird.
Extra News-----
The proposed Creature from the Black Lagoon remake is currently in development LIMBO. It's either been put on the back burner or gonna be cancelled.
I'd personally would have liked to see this one, an updated Gill-Man would look pretty cool. Specially when we were told Todd "Spawn Creator" McFarlane was doing the concept art for the creature. Anyone whose seen his Sea-Creature figures know that he has a keen eye for making cool fish-monsters.

Actually SuperXAsh, I Know What You Did Last Summer was loosely based on a Young Adult horror novel of the same name by Lois Duncan. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing them remake Prom Night, not really a classic, and doesn't have that good a reputation amongst the horror community.
One particular horror flick of the 80's rumored to be on the remake slate according to creature-corner.com is the vampire flick, FRIGHT NIGHT. According to that site a New Zeland film studio is doing it. No other details on it as of yet.

N O T E S
After scoring a major success with resurrecting The Mummy, Universal Pictures decided to remake the 1954 film Creature from the Black Lagoon, regarded as the last classic Universal monster movie. Through his production company, Larger Than Life Prods., Gary Ross (Big, Pleasantville) is co-producing the film with his father, Arthur A. Ross (Brubaker, The Great Race), who was one of the writers on the original film along with Maurice Zimm and Harry Essex. According to Ross, "The story my father wrote embodies the clash between primitive men and civilized men, and that obviously makes it a fertile area for re-examination. Plus, I'm thrilled to be working with my dad." Larger Than Life Prods. also teamed with producer Marc Platt (Legally Blonde, Josie and the Pussycats) to remake the classic musical Bye Bye Birdie.
The original film, starring Richard Carlson and Julia Adams, features a half-man/half-fish creature which is captured by scientists. The creature breaks free and kidnaps the fiancée of one of its captors, with whom it has fallen in love. The classic film was originally presented in 3-D, and is renowned for its seamless creature design and splendid underwater sequences. Universal released the original Creature From the Black Lagoon to reclaim its glory days from the 1940s when it had a hand in classic monster flicks such as Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolf Man, Mummy, and Phantom of the Opera. But after the 1948 release of Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, jaded audiences were demanding something new.
The premise of the film was developed by producer William Alland, who was inspired by tales heard from film crews about piranha-like creatures lurking along the Amazon River. Alland selected director Jack Arnold, who had just wrapped the 3-D movie It Came From Outer Space, to helm the film. Bud Westmore, head of Universal International's makeup department, was hired to create a compelling monster outfit, and he credited co-workers Jack Kevan, Chris Mueller, Milicent Patrick and Bob Hickman with the final design. While location shooting for the original film was in the Amazon, the remake is being shot in Queensland, Australia.
The Creature role in the original film was first offered to Glenn Strange, who had portrayed the Frankenstein Monster in some Universal movies, but he passed because he thought the part required too much swimming. Instead, the role went to Ben Chapman, although Ricou Browning did all the underwater stunt work. Two sequels followed, featuring Tom Hennesy as the Creature in Revenge of the Creature and Don Megowan in the role in 1956's The Creature Walks Among Us, with Ricou Browning continuing to do the stunt work in both sequels. Unlike actors portraying monsters in the 1930's and 1940's such as Karloff, Lugosi and Chaney, the folks who portrayed the Creature never achieved fame because the studio opted not to credit them in order to promote the myth of a real creature.

Actually I posted that in the 'Your DVD Collection' thread days ago, so there. http://www.kaijuphile.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif j/k
I'll probably get one just for the heck of it, and call me crazy, but I think the packaging for the Fullscreen edition looks a LOT better than the Silver/Platinum cover for the Widescreen version [ it's Gold, by the way ]. The second cover is also nice, it's a silhouette of Darth Vader's helmet, although it looks 'disfigured' and as I've said, better in Gold. And a preview for Episode III? I sure hope it's not all Anakin related mush, if anything, it should be more on General Grievous, even if his name is WORSE than anything I could ever think of [ I heard from another website that Ep. III is gonna be called 'The Creeping Fear'... If that's true, then I am seriously going to rethink my views on GINO ].
Peace,

On Netflix are several Hammer Horror classics to be released on DVD April 27th for the first time! Among the titles are:
FRANKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED - This is a rather dark and psychotic tale involving the good Doctor not only extorting a poor girl and her fiance but also taking indecent liberties with her with impunity. He is 100% evil and the real villian.
DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE (1968) - Christopher Lee's third appearance as Dracula. Drac is accidentally thawed out and begins wreaking vengence and havoc. Christopher Lee is top notch. It is interesting, well written and you can see the writers are pushing the edges of the ratings board tolerence.
TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA (1969) - Yanks will finally be able to see the uncut version of this one! (Not to be confused with "Blood of Dracula", a '50s B/teen movie in which an outcast girl falls prey to an evil lady scientist and is turned into a vampy campus vampire.) There's a bordello scene with a snake charmer and brief nudity that was missing in the US release.
Also, Paul Naschy's HORROR RISES FROM THE TOMB (1972) was pushed back to 4/27. Check out the LATARNIA Forums (http://www.latarnia.com/) for more info. Three versions will be included: An uncut version more complete than the Brentwood DVD; the "clothed" TV version most of us saw on our favorite Horror Host show and a widescreen version! And it will retail for about $12 or less. The same company is also doing several other Eurocult favorites, such as NIGHT OF THE SORCERERS and A CANDLE FOR THE DEVIL.
There could be more releases also...

I have to agree with what's been said, remaking 'The Manchurian Candidate' has got to be the most pompous, idiotic thing I've heard so far this year. Why the need to remake a nightmarishly brilliant film for a contemporary audience? The original still stands as one of the best films ever made-- though I cannot say the same for the remake. We all know what happened when they attempted to remake Godzilla for a 'contemporary' audience...

NEWSFLASH
1) The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed earlier reports that filmmaker Chris Columbus will direct and produce this Marvel Comics property for Universal Pictures. Avi Arad will produce for Marvel, Kevin Misher for Misher Films, Columbus and his 1492 Productions. The testy aquatic superhero, Prince Namor, a half-man/half-amphibian creature from the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, first appeared in 1939, when Marvel was known as Timely Comics, then reappeared in Fantastic Four adventures in the 1960s. Screenwriter David Self has adapted the comic for what is described as 'an epic film that will highlight various cultures, species and worlds beneath Earth's oceans.' Columbus will begin production on Sub-Mariner once he has completed filming an adaptation of the Broadway musical Rent.
2) "New Line Cinema and Marvel Studios, a division of leading global entertainment company Marvel Enterprises, have signed Nick Cassavetes ("The Notebook," "John Q") to direct the highly-anticipated big screen adaptation of Iron Man, based on the legendary Marvel Super Hero. The film is scheduled to be a 2006 tentpole release.
The project, which is being produced by Marvel Studios' CEO Avi Arad (Spider-Man, X-Men) and Angry Films' Don Murphy, is based on a script by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, and David Hayter. The studios will begin casting immediately.
"This is an ideal situation because Nick is a tremendous talent with a passion for the material, and we have had such incredible success working with both him and Marvel in the past," said New Line production president Toby Emmerich. "Teaming up again to launch a franchise as promising as 'Iron Man' is very exciting."
Arad added, "Being able to work with such an acclaimed writer/director as Nick Cassavetes to bring one of our pre-eminent Super Hero franchises to the big screen is really special. Nick grew up reading 'Iron Man' and personally loves the character. He shares our vision of how to bring 'Iron Man' to life in a way that will appeal to a mass audience as well as the core Super Hero fan base. This deal with Nick marks the perfect way to launch our second big Marvel franchise with New Line, a studio that we have enjoyed a great relationship with in building the Blade character into a Hollywood heavyweight."
Based on the long-running Marvel comic book series, Iron Man tells the story of Tony Stark, the enigmatic heir to the Stark Enterprises fortune. A driven inventor and executive who seems to have it all, Tony is haunted by his dark side. Though he commands his empire by day, by night he secretly becomes "Iron Man," the living embodiment of decades of defense spending and innovation. Strapping on billions of dollars worth of state-of-the-art armor and weaponry each night to fight crime, terrorism and corporate espionage, Tony begins to crack under the strain of his fractured lifestyle and must ultimately confront the one enemy he can never beat -- himself.
Iron Man marks the continuation of New Line's successful relationship with Marvel, which was initiated with the studio's hit adaptation of Blade in 1998. New Line built on the initial film's success with the release of Blade II in 2002, and is set to release the third installment of the franchise, Blade: Trinity, on Dec. 8.
Cassavetes' relationship with New Line has also proved to be a profitable one in recent years. His last directorial effort, "The Notebook," was one of this summer's biggest hits at the box office. He also directed the 2002 hit film "John Q" for the studio and is currently in production on the drama "Alpha Dog," which features an ensemble cast including Bruce Willis, Justin Timberlake, Sharon Stone and Emile Hirsch.
Marvel has an impressive track record when it comes to translating its renowned Super Heroes to the big screen with such blockbusters as Spider- Man, Spider-Man 2, X-Men, X-Men 2, Daredevil, and The Hulk. The company is also currently in production on the much buzzed about adaptation of Fantastic Four, which hits theaters July 1, 2005.
Emmerich is overseeing Iron Man for New Line along with the studio's senior vp production Stokely Chaffin, vp George Waud and creative executive Jeff Katz. Spearheading the production for Marvel Studios are Kevin Feige and Ari Arad"

If it is true I'm not really worrying. That series has already been shot to Hell when it should have stayed one movie and everything would be ok.

Is this the one where we see the Shark's annoying and funny personality, or is that being saved for the special special edition of the original(borrowing a gag from Robot Chicken.)

Jaws 5? Why would it be Jaws 5?
You would think it would be Jaws 2, since no sequels were ever made and they are just figments of imagination. ;)

Yes, yes, lets see the Robot Chicken version, it's pretty much a guarantee it'll be more entertaining than all the sequels put together.

The truth hurts boy! Wheter anyone likes it or not, jaws 2, 3 and 4 do exist.
Personally, Although some of the sequals werent as good as the original-and some were better- I wont say anything more on this until I see it.

In my humble opinion, JAWS should have been a stand alone film. Personally, I think the sequals get progressivley worse and worse. Jaws 2 was OK, 3 was bad, and 4 was virtually unwatchable. It doesn't leave much hope for 5.

Now, I would be happy to just see the original planned Jaws 3. It was going to be National Lampoon's Jaws 3, People 0.

Disregarding the fact that there already is a Jaws 5, making one would just be dumb. As everyone else noted, Jaws was great, 2 was at least watchable, 3(D)was totally crap and 4 isn't worthy of being part of a civil conversation.

Revenge is the fourth, though there is an unoffical(-ish)sequel made by Bruno Mattei in -95 called Jaws 5:Cruel Jaws. It is basically a huge rip-off of Jaws featuring a lot of shark scenes lifted from Jaws, Jaws 2, Deep Blood and The Great White.
I believe it is illegal to sell it in the US(but don't quote me on that)because of the huge amount of stock footage in it taken without permission.

Even though the sequels were never as good as the first, I still found some entertainment value in them. But I do agree it should have only been just Jaws; or even Jaws and Jaws 2 since it wasn't too far off from what the first one was. There really shouldn't be any sequels on animals like sharks because once you've done it, there isn't much you can do. All you would be doing is recycling the same tactics, deaths, etc. Sharks swim, bump, and bite. You can't expect people to come out of the film with something new. All those sequels tried to do was to make money off of the name. Plain and simple.
To be quite honest, I hope they do not make it. But I have no power of say as to whether they should make it or not. If they do...oh well.

I agree. The first film should have been a stand alone. But it isn't, and we have to live with that. I actually thought that Jaws 4 was better then some other sequels... *goes and hids*
But a Jaws5? Hmmm... Truthfully, it's a domb idea. But with its original creators invold, I think we'll get a kind of JP3 type movie; entertaining, new, and stupid. Either way I'm happy.

That's OLD NEWS buddy, been saying that for years now... almost a decade now. I don't think a J5 will materialize (course the same could have been said for Spider-Man, The Hulk, AVP, etc. at one time :sarcasm:). The closest thing we're gonna get to a "Jaws 5" is the upcoming video game.
But if one MUST be made, then I highly suggest that they take the "Godzilla '84 Route" and pretend that every sequel before it "never happened" and maybe... MAYBE continue the story ELSEWHERE as in NOT AMITY. Sure I'd love to see how the Brodys coped with the aftermath of the first shark (since this version ignores previous Jaws sequels), but the idea of ANOTHER GIANT KILLER MAN-EATING SHARK attacking the SAME beach... really stretches it. So why not continue this "New Continuity" elsewhere, like... with the expeditions of shark expert Matt Hooper? (Though it'd be impossible to get Dreyfuss to work in this)
Also, and this is something that i've been drumming upon for a long long time and it's the apparent truth about the movie industry.
THERE'S NO SUREFIRE WAY TO STOP A SEQUEL FROM HAPPENING, OR THE POSSIBILITY OF ONE. Don't believe me? Watch Beneath the Planet of the Apes, with it's pretty final conclusion... then go rent it's SEQUEL, Escape from the Planet of the Apes and the following sequels after that.
Don't try and tell me that old "Then we can just not go to, or buy, them and they'll stop making sequels" B.S., because apparently that hasn't dawned on the makers of all those stupid Leprechaun movies.

On what Kent is saying, I agree whole heartedly. Its not like monster movies that involve 'made-up' monsters (EG: Virtually ALL Kaiju films, the Alien Quadrillogy, Tremors, Predator ect..). In those movies, its easy to make a sequal (or quite a few sequals). You can add things to the creatures or change the creatures to make an original sequal. But if you try to do that with a shark, the movie will look ridiculous and it will no longer be scary or even startling, just plain dumb. So what do they do? The exact same movie over and over with little twists here and there to prevent it from looking like a complete rip-off or remake (eg: New characters, putting the shark in Sea World, ect..) and call it a sequal. I think the series has allready been thrown to the dogs, and a fifth movie would just make its situation worse.

:pYES! If you all haven't seen ORCA, I strongly suggest it. JAWS may have put these type films in the public eye but this is one exciting fish story that often slips below the radar. Actually, I see more plausibility in it than with some of the shark stuff.

Via an interview with James Cameron at AICN:
QUINT: I remember before Paul W.S. Anderson did ALIEN VS PREDATOR it came out that you kind of made an offer to do another ALIEN film with Ridley Scott...
JAMES CAMERON: Yeah. Ridley and I talked about doing another ALIEN film and I said to 20th Century Fox that I would develop a 5th ALIEN film. I started working on a story, I was working with another writer and Fox came back to me and said, "We've got this really good script for ALIEN VS PREDATOR and I got pretty upset. I said, "You do that you're going to kill the validity of the franchise in my mind." Because to me, that was FRANKENSTEIN MEETS WEREWOLF. It was Universal just taking their assets and starting to play them off against each other.
QUINT: Milking it, totally.
JAMES CAMERON: Milking it. So, I stopped work. Then I saw ALIEN VS PREDATOR and it was actually pretty good. (laughs) I think of the 5 ALIEN films, I'd rate it 3rd.
QUINT: Ummm...
JAMES CAMERON: I actually liked it. I actually liked it a lot.
QUINT: You know, I hate it when movies don't abide by the continuity of their series...
JAMES CAMERON: When they make up their own rules.
QUINT: Exactly. They did that a lot with the alien incubation time, where from egg to chestbuster it happened...
JAMES CAMERON: In minutes, yeah...
QUINT: That kind of stuff really pissed me off with the movie...
JAMES CAMERON: Well, it starts to become a video game. It's like, "Okay, that can be in him and that can show up over here..." It becomes more metaphorical or more comic book. I don't mean comic book in a negative way, I just mean that it's working at a kind of mythic, metaphoric level as opposed to really trying to immerse you in reality.
I mean, I felt when I was making ALIENS I think the same thing Ridley was doing with ALIEN, which is... "I'm going to make you think this is real." Even though it is completely ridiculous deep space adventure. We were going to make you feel like it's real. It's a question of does the film take itself seriously or not.
KRAKEN: So you still thinking about doing something with it?
JAMES CAMERON: No.

To be fair, AvP may not have been very good, but it was better than Alien 3 or Alien Resurrection.
It's too bad Cameron won't be working on the next Alien movie. Frankly, I would have prefered his involvment over Scott's (I like "Alien", but it's dated, and "Aliens" turned out to be a superior movie, IMO). That, and Cameron would have tried his best to rectify the nonsense that started with A3.

AVP was good in my opinion, but for the reason that it is a senceless action movie. However, even so, it wasnt that good. However on a quality basis, AVP was horrid. Nothing will beat ALIENS though. That I own (I dont own AVP and probably never will) and LOVE just about as much as GFW as one of my favorite movies ever. Aliens had characters I cared about. It had quality (thats why it won alot of Academy Awards). Plus on top of that, it was kickass.

Amen there. I'm hard pressed to pick between 'Alien' and 'Aliens' (say what you will, Zigra, I don't think the original is dated at all. Did you see it in theatres recently when it was re-released?), they are both really strong, really well made movies. The rest of the franchise, however, is pretty forgetable, or downright bad in the case of Alien 3 (killing off Hicks and Newt off camera is something no movie-goer should excuse, and far worse than any of the inanity in Resurrection).

Perhaps I should have thrown in the word "slightly". "Alien" does hold up well today.........but just not quite as well as "Aliens" does, IMO.

Alien and Aliens are both fantastic movies. 3 was ok, and Resurrection was pretty bad. But AVP was ungodly in terms of how bad it was.

Interesting, I am glad that it is Myers instead of Ash(*waits for angry Campbell fanboys to suddenly storm in and lynch me with chainsaws*), IMO he just fits the film better. As to how in the Hell they are going to bring everyone together and make it work I haven't a clue.
As for the Hulk, I'm really not sure what to think yet. But the fact that it is going strait to DVD could spell trouble for the budget, I guess we'll have to wait and see.
