It looks like a crazed up poster for the D.C. comics

Squadron Supreme was a Marvel version of the Justice League, but I don't remember them ever crossing paths with Marvel's Godzilla. It might just be a fan creation.

Artwork by Sawn Van Briesen
That's who did it, but who is he?

Probably just a fan-artist having fun.

Probably made by some 40 year old dude who lives with his mom.Could be a disgruntled or rejected comic idea.

Shawn van Briesen is a painter for Marvel. He has done a lot of artwork, like this Daredevil pic. http://daredevil.dreamhost.com/art/fan/art_sb1.jpg

No. First of all, Squadron Supreme are Marvel characters. Secondly, Toho rejected an offer for a Dark Horse/DC team-up of Godzilla and Superman.... there's no way they'd sign with Marvel (whose Godzilla comics Toho hated) for a meeting with a bunch of second-string characters.

I'm sure Van Briesen did what most artists do... draw something he thought would be fun and interesting. That's doesn't mean there will now be a comic book.

That is a cool cover though. Even if Godzilla does look a little weird.

Think you can shine some light on why Toho hated the Marvel comics?

^^ Toho didn't like Godzilla fighting superheroes (another strike against the Squadron Supreme art meaning anything) or being shrunk down in size by Dr. Henrey Pym in one of the storylines. When I worked on the Dark Horse Godzilla comics we were given a list of "Godzilla Commandments"-- things that we were never allowed to do to the character (Godzilla must have three rows of fins, Godzilla must have 4 toes, Godzilla does not eat people, etc). One of those rules was "Godzilla will never be shrunk down to the size of a rat".... apparently Toho is still annoyed with Marvel for that one.

O/T KPA Could you post the "Godzilla Commandments" ? :mothra:

The list is packed away somewhere and I don't remember it that well. Most of the rules were pretty basic like the examples I posted, but the 'rat' one caught my attention because I knew exactly what Toho was complaining about.

Oh the industry kill joy is here... :(

Looks like Toho just got turned off by Godzilla meets super-heroes after the whole Godzilla vs Megalon fiasco. :(

Some of them were good, usually the ones that had other Kaiju or Robots in them. The others were pretty bad though.

I might be wrong, but I think Jet Jaguar was referring to Goji. The Marvel Goji series came out after the showa films ended and before either the HB cartoon and long before the Heisei revival obviously. So technically at that time the Marvel G is all we G-fans had. But perhaps I am misinterpreting what JJ said as well.
