I've never seen the actual movies but from music videos with parts from those movies for some reason they look more like they used models instead of actors in suits. It's weird. Can someone clear up why or they appear so small?

In some fighting parts they used models but they usually used the costumes for hand to hand and most of the time the fire blast.

IMO, back in the Showa days, Daiei weren't that good at using camera angles, etc. to make the monsters look huge. And like Artemis said, they did sometimes use models of the monsters in some of the parts.

Those two reasons and the extreme budget limitations Daei had. You think Showa Godzilla budgest were bad....

The suits look awfully flat for a turtle, and cheap overall. But as a kaiju fan, we watch for the hearts of the movie, not the SFX...or there probably wouldnt be any kaiju fans, lol.
