After Final Wars, if and when they make any more Godzilla movies should they be joint productions made by Japanese and Americans? For this I'm talking about a production company that actually cares about the character. American filmmakers spend millions of dollars on effects all the time and aren't shy about it, while Toho is far more conservative with their budget. For this movie they've taken advantage of other countries' help with CGI and other things. Would it be a good move if this were to happen? Here's what I think could end up happening if they did.

1. The movies' budgets wouldn't be so limited if they were being helped by whichever American studio decided to work with them. Godzilla was once ahead of the rest of the movie world in special effects, maybe by doing this that could possibly happen again.

Or

2.If they went overboard with certain effects or getting into legal hassles like trying to get ownership of certain Toho property when it should be a smooth partnership. That would be hard to establish in the first place though, which would be the problem.

I guess what I'm trying to say is would it be a good idea to, for future Godzilla movies, make a production team of some of Toho's workers with American workers (that will respect Godzilla of course) to work on the future movies?

That company would be sony if it would happen. I like the idea but it probably wont happen. Toho respects the work they do with Godzilla despite what alot of people think.

That would be really cool if they did do that though

No. Goji movies should stay Goji movies, and thats Japanese. Although, I do think it would be intresting if an american director went to Japan and directed one under toho's carful eye. Tarantino anyone?

BTW- This should be in the Millennium forum or Toho General forum.

I'd rather see Sam Raimi direct a goji film. I loved Spider Man 1 and 2 and ol' Raimi could bring that great action over to the Gojiverse.

I dont think they would need a new director. They just need help with special effects and all that stuff.

Toho tried it several times with different US companies. A partial list: Columbia put up production money for the original MOTHRA; Henry Saperstein/UPA co-produced GODZILLA VS THE THING, FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD, MONSTER ZERO, and WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS, and Nick Adams Enterprises did THE KILLING BOTTLE.

Well it's a bit early to speculate on all this

I think it would be a good idea. It may bring some more publicity of the Big Guy here in the states, something that needs to happen. Especially with GFW.

I'm sure toho could do better SFX if they spent more money on it. They should let the americans do mostly all of a goji movie with Toho's very careful eye. Like take Goji and make him all CGI and that BS. The americans are the best at SFX in the whole world.

^ I'd take you anyday  Seriously. I sit here, at my comp, typing a story, thinking of how to direct every scene  I've gone to the darkside  Anyway, I didn't think Spidy 1 was all that great, and haven't seen 2. Besides, you would have to make sure we woudn't get someone who would use all CG and no suit. As far as Toho's FX have gone, they've come a long way in the form of CG.

That would be a great idea, but I really don't see it happening anytime soon, if at all. I mean I enjoy the suitmation and its charm, but sadly much of today's auidence doesn't and having an American partner putting in money into the budget (i.e. the SPFXs- well as long if they don't churn up Sci-Fi movie of the week crap) would help.

And Toho.... if you need a screenwriter or director...here's my number

Yes and no; the project was brought to Toho by American producer John Beck. The deal that was made gave Toho permission to use King Kong while Beck got the film rights for the US and some other markets. The production of the film was totally paid for by Toho.

It sounds great in theory, but finding someone that will take the genre seriously and make the films as they should be made is the real trick here. Devlin and Emmerich were supposed to be hardcore g-fans, and we saw how that turned out. In the end even if you find a producer or a studio that is interested, they will probably want to do the same things that were done in Gino. And if Toho tries to say no we don't want that then the American collaborators will probably just go "okay, well were not interested then." and take a walk.
