What was the first G film you ever saw and how did it effect your life afterward?(I know this could easily have been placed in the Showa forum but there are young G-fans out there, and I happen to know one who saw the Heisei films first before watching any of the Showa)

Mine was Destroy all Monsters at the age of 6. Once I saw it I was hooked, and it began years of drawing and fiction writing for me that continues to this very day.

What about you?

My mom rented me "Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla(showa)" and Godzilla 1985(Which had a small, twisted cartoon intitled Bambi Vs Godzilla)

Being about 4 at the time,I found the idea of a giant lizard fighting a robotic one more appealing,so poped that into the small TV that was in my room at the time(My parents rented these movies to keep me busy while they watched one of there adult movies)

I can remember staring in awe at Angilas and the way he roared scared me.
After that it got kinda' boring so decided to play with my dino toys. Then all the explosions started and saw the fake Godzilla imerge.I thought it was so cool! and then Angilas came out and I got a better look at him,who I thought was cool. But felt bad when he got his jaw all messed up.

Then when he got to the city, and the second Godzilla came out of the building is when the real action started. And the robotic Godzilla imerging was so aswome!
Then all the action died down and played with my toys somemore. But whenn they released he Mechagodzilla again I started watching again. And the final battle is what got me hooked, all the explosions and the firepower that he displayed and the beam got me.

Godzilla 1985 was more dark, and I was disapointed that there was no other Monster. But I actually cried when he fell into the volcano.

The next week I rented Godzillla 1985 and King Kong(WHich I was disappointed, becuase my mom said there was Dinosaurs. And I was stuck with the snake)

Thankfully the first film I ever saw was "Godzilla: King of the Monsters." (However, I already knew about Godzilla from my sister; she had taken me to the library and had read Crestwood's Godzilla book to me.) It was a long time ago and I'm not sure how old I was but I was between eight and six. I still remember how excited I was when my sister told me it would be on TV. A fun little mosnter movie, I was sure.
Yet when I saw it, I was stunned and numb by the power of this awesome film. A few days later, I, by sheer chance saw "Godzilla 1985" on TV as well. I was at a friend's house when we tuned in by accident. I can still remember how the end left me choked up. It left me crying when it happened and made me cry for years later everytime I saw it. You're not the only one Darkside, it still gets me...:(
Funny though, I don't ever remember having seen "King Kong" 1933 for the first time. For as far back as I can remember, I can recall that big monkey. I remember the first time I remembered though, I was about seven or six. It was night and I was in the back seat of the car and my father had stopped in a seedy neighborhood while trying to figure out where we were. I let myself daydream and I recalled a black and white scene of a giant ape in a huge cavern. (Kong in Skull Mountain where the snake tries to eat Anne.) I asked myself, where did that come from? Weird.

Either "Godzilla vs. Hedorah", "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla" or "Godzilal 1985".

Destroy All Monsters, Ghidrah the Three Headed Monster and Godzilla VS Mechagodzilla(74) all when I was around 8 or 9 years old. Before that though, I watched the HB Godzilla cartoon and I had a Dinosaur video with clips from Monster Zero and GTTHM dubbed over with voices for the monsters and Take Me Out To the Ball Game going over Rodan and Godzilla's game of Rock Volleyball. Also I had a friend who had some Goji toys and mispronounced Ghidorah as Goldorah. He unfortunatly got hooked on GINO when it came out as it was the only film he saw with a creature called Godzilla. He even named the Baby Godzilla's after the action figures and especially liked Claw Slasher, who he believed was the surviving baby GINO.

My first was Mothra vs. Godzilla.
It was when I was about three, and I remember walking to the den where my older brother (now 25 years old) was watching TV. On the screen were helicopters dropping nets onto a giant dinosaur, getting electrocuted by them. I recall my brother saying in a taunt manner "Awww, poor Godzilla" while this was happening. I was hooked and had to watch the rest of the movie, and was VERY disturbed at the ending with Godzilla being cocooned by those two Mothra Larva.

Godzilla, King of the Monsters.

This was back when my family had TV reception, but before we had a VCR... probably 1985 or 1986. Anyway, I got hooked on the big beast right away... especially when my Dad told me there were more Godzilla movies. Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

I went to the video store pretty much daily when I was a kid,
and I picked up Terror of the Mechagodzilla... when I was 11.. it was great because I was watching alot of movies and it was just so different... there was nothing like it.
as far as I remember though I remember being excited seeing it on the shelf...
I loved godzilla before I saw any films...
I think he was such an Icon, I had a clear understanding of what he was and liked that.

Perhaps it's a manephestation of a troubled childhood and this is the direction of my male power fantasy.

Or perhaps it's my hostile self destructive nature being channeled into fantasies where destruction is prominant.

or maybe a cigar is just a cigar.

Oh man... you people asked for it

Well, (ahem) it began long ago at the age of 7 as kid just fresh from watching Jurassic Park God knows how many times and having the firm belief that the T-rex was THE biggest, badest animal that the world had ever seen. Needless to say, I was proven wrong.

On one fateful day, my parents were having a party and since I was the only kid, I was sent to my parent's room bored out of my wee little mind, then I started flipping channels and left it at Channel 9 KCAL for a second then suddently the announcer shouted "We now return to Godzilla 1985." Curious I started watching and of course I came at the right time. These squad of jets roared past and screen and from the ocean came the biggest beast I had ever seen. It reared its massive head and unleashed a hellish scream that shivered to my bones. One by one the jets fell and there I watched, now knowing full well why this creature was called GOD-zilla, since it seem be the most powerful force in the world, taking out the military,Tokyo and the Super X! Then I realized, T-rex barely went to this guy's ankle!!! And Kong maybe reached his knees!!! This dude was the BIGGEST and the BADDEST!!!

From then on I tried to convice my Sunday school teacher that Godzilla was an act of God and my parents to buy me more movies when I discovered that my local Wal-mart was also selling Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla and Godzilla vs. Gigan. Also that Christmas, my aunt Irene gave me probably the catalyst of my Godzilla fandom, a 6-inch Imperial Godzilla figure as well as a King Kong figure. She also became the only one to support my new love bringing a new Godzilla movie each time I visited and her last and final gift to me was my first issue of G-fan. God bless her!!!

And the rest, needless to say is history.
(Told you that you're all were asking for it, especially my nosalgic ways)

Hm...well, the very first Godzilla movie I ever saw was Godzilla vs. Megalon, but that wasn't my first experience with kaiju films and it wasn't the movie that made me a fan.

When I was a little kid (about 4 or 5), I would go downstairs and watch movies with my cousins (I lived in a two-family house, I was upstairs, my cousins downstairs). I'm relatively sure that my first kaiju movie was Mothra. I loved it! Thinking back, it seems like a dream (sadly...this one time as a child has been the ONLY time I've ever seen Mothra). After that, I saw King Kong Lives (didn't watch the whole thing...never have seen the end of it...) and finally Godzilla vs. Megalon. To tell you the truth, at the time, I didn't care for it.

It wasn't until 1994 (when I was eight), that I became a Godzilla fan. I happened to catch a commercial for Godzilla 1985 when it ran on WB 11, and was immediately hooked. I made sure to watch it that night, and before the movie was over, I was a Godzilla fan. A week later, I went with my dad to the video store where we picked up Terror of Mechagodzilla. Not too long after that, TNT ran another of its Godzilla marathons, giving me my first real exposure GKOTM, Mothra vs. Godzilla, Monster Zero, and G's Revenge. By this point, there was no turning back, and I have been a Godzilla fan ever since.

I'm not sure what the first G-film film is I seen. My garndmother pointed to the TV saying "That's Godzilla". But what I saw was a dinosaur like creature standing on the edge of a clif roaring as big white letters reading "the end" appeared. Now, as we all know, there is no G-film like that, so either she was mistaken, or it was a Zone Fighter show. I don't know. The first part of a REAL G-film I saw was again on TV, only this time it was the ending of the ending battle of Godzilla vs. Megalon, as Godzilla does the 'jump-kick' thing. Shorty after I saw my first movie from begining to end, which was likely Godzilla Raids Again,.... or Godzilla vs. Megalon.... or Godzilla..... But anyway, that's my story.

Godzilla vs. King Kong dubbed

On my dad's birthday, he was nice enough to go to Toys R Us with me and my bro *at the time I was 4, my bro was 8* and I spotted the video. I loved Dinosaurs, so Godzilla instantly caught my eye. He bought it for me, and I watched it.

I loved it. I loved Godzilla, and I laughed at everything. To this day I adore that film, the dubbed amazingly

A very crazy way for me to start off my fandom

My first viewing of Godzilla... was not a movie. It was some entertainment news special on the big guy. Showing various clips from his films, and I think even some footage from Zonefighter (hazy memory of the event but doesn't remember seeing some of the monsters the Big G fought in the clips in the main Godzilla series). Being a rabid dinosaur nut that I was (and to some extent still am) I was hooked. We went to the local BETA video store (we still had an old Beta system, the pre-VHS video tape players), but they didn't have any... also got my first Godzilla toy around that same time (and this was WAY before Trendmasters made their Godzilla line).

Not to mention the fond memories I still have of me, and my older brother listening to dad read us one of those old horror movie books, I think Crestwood or Black Forest... or something like that... a book on... Godzilla and his movies up to that point. ^^ good times... fun times....

Kinda funny really... I had known & loved Godzilla for a long time before even seeing one of his movies!

It wasn't until about a year later, and a switch to VHS, that I finally got to see my favorite radioactive dinosaur for the first time on the big screen.

Godzilla 1985 ^^ *happy memories*

If I was hooked before... I was OBSESSED after watching Godzilla 1985!!!

Nother funny thing to note... watched a whole buncha Godzilla movies before finally viewing Godzilla: King of the Monsters, even saw Godzilla raids again before Godzilla '54... I think... 6_6 *chalk it up to that hazy memories thing again*

One of the reasons why G'85 is quite possibly my absolute favorite Godzilla movie. It got me hooked, it got me started, and always brings back the fondest memories when I watch it. :D

I was lucky enough to start with the original, GODZILLA, KING OF THE MONSTERS on tv when I was about 7. Having always been a dinosaur fanatic, it was right up my alley. I saw KING KONG around the same time. When I was 8, I saw KING KONG VS GODZILLA in the theater. Our town didn't bring in that many kaiju movies, the next one they got was KING KONG ESCAPES, 5 years later. Even the movies I didn't see I got acquainted with through magazines like FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND.

I too started off liking dinosaurs, Dearkside Reject.

I had always known of a Godzilla and that he was a big dinosaur like thing and he could breathe a fire like beam. I can remember ***ue references of him in other places, but I had never seen a movie.

The first movie I saw was Godzilla vs. Megalon. Shortly after I moved to my current residence the Sci-Fi channel showed it almost 16 times within two months. It was engrained in my memory. A while after that AMC had their annual Monster Fest. They showed a lot of kaiju and monster movies. I was sick so I got to stay up all night and watch them. Since then I have been a die hard fan.

A few years later my friend Gorjirus allowed me to borrow some of his movies and introduced me to the forum.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

The same for me as well. Even before my Destroy all Monsters experience I had more dinosaur books than I could count, and I drove my elementary school library teacher absolutely nuts!:D

The first Godzilla movie I saw was probably Godzilla on Monster Island.

I'm not actually sure which one was my first, but I'm pretty sure it's GoMI. My earliest memories of Godzilla are very hazy.

Untill one day I think they showed a Godzilla movie I belive it was Godzilla vs. Mothra after that I went to my video rental store that had about 12 diffrentGodzilla movies. Good times.

Half of Godzilla Vs the Sea Monster on a sunday morning when I was 6 or 7. I was Hooked and promptly tracked down Godzilla Vs Gigan, Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla and Ghidorah the 3 headed monster on Vs. A short time later I had Godzilla Vs King Kong, Rodan, Mothra, Godzilla Raids again, and Son Of Godzilla. I had two copies of Son of Godzilla and both broke. Well If I ever see it on DVD maybe I'll get it.

Same here, and I still have so many dino books and movies I had to put some in a box because they woldn't fit anywhere else! I've recorded Discovery channel's "walking with dinosaurs" at least five times, as well as all their other dino features! (they should have more of those nowadays.) But yes, thanks to God's wonderful creation of dinosaurs, I'm the biggest Godzilla nut on earth. Go figure.

Ah, memories of watching G84, GvsML, GRA and JP start flashing back again.

I remember my dad would always bring some monster movie home from the rental place. My first Godzilla film was Return of Godzilla (Godzilla 1985). I loved the film and I was sort of scared of it.(I was only like 2 or maybe even 1. I am not joking.) I also got a Godzilla toy the some time or a little bit later. Of coarse it didn't really have an effect on me until later. I later saw many other Godzilla movies and became hooked. And here I am today. Still hooked and living life as much as I can.

Mine was Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, but I didn't watch all of it (I fast forwarded to the parts with Godzilla) It seemed to be so cool to me at that age! Then, I watched Son of Godzilla, and other showa G films.
