Just got done watching it. Just whanted to know what all you fans think of it. When did you see it? What did you think of it? And other questions like that. I saw the film on christmas day wene I was 6. Maybe 7. I was a little lost on the plot but I understand it perfectly now. I loved the film and still do. Some of the nicest SPFX in the series. What do you think? My ears are open...Again.

I love this movie sooooo much!!!! The first time I saw it, was when I was four or five, I was scared at first, because of Biollante, but I eventually started to like it. I think the plot is great, and the characters are spectacular as well. Anyway, it is a great movie, one of the best in the series.

As far as Godzilla films go, GvB is easily the best one. It is the most complete Godzilla film made in every way. It has a great story, some of the best characters to appear in a Godzilla film, great acting, the best SPFX (especially Biollante) and it doesn't suffer from having any bad elements that are truely glaring like every other Godzilla film has.

This will always be my favorite Godzilla film, though I rank it second behind the original, even though the original has quite a few technical flaws it is still an incredible experience and will never be usurped from the #1 spot.

One of the best, thats for sure. It used to be my favorite of them all, but thats slowly changed. Still love it quite a bit though. My last viewing wasn't the most thrilling, which can happen with anymovie. Its about my 12th favorite now I would say. Only a 4 from the Millennium and Heisei series beting it (the rest showa classics). Third favorite Heisei film. After Return of Godzilla, and vs. King Ghidorah.

*sighs* Meh, it's personally my least favorite Godzilla film

I've watched it several times, and I've tried to get into it, but I just can't. It's very well done, and is one of the better made Godzilla movies, but it bored me to death. I can't stand the human roles, and then even when Godzilla was around I was bored easily. I didn't like the music, and I hated the fights with a passion. All Godzilla did was stand there and shoot his beam or get pounded, and that didn't entertain me one bit. I didn't even like the Super X2, all the continual reflecting bored me even more. Then the 'city destruction' sequence also made me gag, and the final battle with Biollante was way too short, and again all Godzilla did was shoot him beam. The one thing I liked was the military battle at sea, but that's not enough for me to like the film. I'm not even too much of a big fan of Biollante either...

So yeah, hate me if you please, but I in no way enjoyed this movie

I was hoping that Biolante would return in a future movie. Sadly, she probably won't. She should have been in GTSE. That would have been my fav playable character.

If you want to see Biollante in canon Kaiju entertainment, check out Marc Cerasini's "Godzilla; At World's End" novel, she fights Godzilla at the end in a pretty cool fight even I enjoyed

Love this film as well. I saw it just as we were moving down to the Des Moines area in 1996. I bought it with some summer spending money my parents gave us every summer and thought it was impressive. To this very day, it still has a sentimental value to it for the fact that it was the first film I saw in our new house and it helped make my new house a home.

9.5/10

Oh boy you really asked for it!

G vs Biollante is the first Heisei film I saw aside from G85. After learning about the existance of the other Heisei films back in 1993(from a kaiju collectibles book of all things), I tracked down every tidbit of information I could about them even before seeing any of them. I came across Biollante by accident while channel surfing one day in April of 1994. I came in just as G and Biollante were having their first confrontation of the film and I almost had a heart attack! I watched the remainder of the film and was ecstatic, and wanted to try and record it if it was ever shown again. But something else happened first.......

G vs Biollante was given to me as part of a high school graduation gift in May 1994. Since it was still 2 to 3 years before G vs Biollante hit the comercial market on a broad level my family had to pull some major strings to find it. And they ended up paying like 70 dollars for it after ordering it from a Media Play warehouse somewhere in Texas! My sister(who originally got it for me)still hangs her head and grumbles when she sees the same video now for $6.95 on various discount racks at various stores. But the fact that she went to so much trouble to get it the way she did seemed so cool to me and still does. There was some serious bonding over that film, that plus as some of you may or may not already know my sister is also a kaiju fan. And G vs Biollante is one of her favorite G films, I think she watches it more than I do!

Godzilla vs. Biollante is easily my favorite Godzilla movie. I first came across it in the mid-90s...I want to say 1995...while scouring video stores for Godzilla movies. Ah, those were the days. Back then, every time I went into a video store I discovered a new G-film. I remember seeing the cover of the video and saying to myself, "Wow, that looks so cool."

So, we rented it, I went home and popped it in. Imagine my surprise to discover that Biollante picks up right where Godzilla 1985 left off. A direct sequel to the movie that made me a Godzilla fan! Of course, once the gunfight began I got confused and wondered if I had accidentally rented the wrong movie :D I even checked the tape box to make sure! But, after I got into it, I loved every minute. Even today, I still find myself wandering back to my (seriously deteriorating) copy. The plot is great, the music unique, an interesting cast of characters, and wonderful SPFX. Super X2 is a one-of-a-kind concept! And the ANEB...why didn't the Japanese decide to do that SOONER?! And Biollante itself is probably the most unique Godzilla foe ever.

Ah, such memories. I can't wait until G'85 and Biollante find their way to DVD. I don't care how much they'll cost...I want to get my hands on those movies! ^_^

Just curious, do you dislike the entire Heisei series then? Because this is pretty much all that Godzilla did throughout the Heisei series.

Kinda, if you will say. This is my list of liking for the Heisi Godzilla series, according to the beamy and physical fights-

Return of Godzilla- Very meh to me
Godzilla vs. Biollante- Not needed
Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah- I just rented this again, and I'm working on my final opinion. I do like it, the city destruction scenes were fun, and Godzilla went more physical in those than anything else. The battles were still good. Ghidorah was physical a lot, and Godzilla's sequence of slams and throws was nice. That final battle though...eghhh...too beamy...not good

Godzilla vs. Mothra- Waay too long since I've seen this
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II- Very nice. Mechagodzilla was too beamy, but Rodan helped this a lot, and so did Goji. That entire first battle was almost all physical fighting, and even in the final battle Rodan went on a assault of pecks smacks and slashes while Godzilla had a nice physical beatdown on Mechagodzilla

Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla- Less physical than Mechagodzilla, but enough. He had two nice brawls with Spacegodzilla, and his entire city tramling had no beams. Then even Moguera and Spacegodzilla went physical a bunch of times. Plus Godzilla's destruction of the tower was one big ram. But then again, I just have an unusal liking for this movie.

Godzilla vs. Destroyah- The perfect mix of beam and physical action. Godzilla's China bashing was a good mix, the battle with the Super X3 may've been all beam, but then Junior vs. Destroyah was a was a good equilibrium, and that final battle rocked, containing good beam action and some of the most brutal physical brawls ever.

A personal favorite of mine-

The minature work was superb, the goji suit was a powerful-looking sucker, and the puppetry was excellent.

Oh yeah, and final-form Biollante was the scariest-looking Kaiju I'd seen up to that point. Sorta like "Little Shop of Horrors" gone serious.

As said earlier, it's a COMPLETE G film, and has moments in it that still send shivers down my spine

Godzilla vs. Biollante is my favorite Godzilla film of all time.
I've explained why I liked it so much in the "Heisei G-films in order" topic.

I used to be a little fanboy of Godzilla bashing how "Biolaste took down godzila!111" but I've matured (a little bit) now. As a matter of fact, the evolved Biollante is my favorite kaiju!

The main thing I liked about this film was how different it was from the other films.

I love this film! It's one of THE BEST G-films ever! Even compared to the Shinsei films, GvsB has some of the best special effects of any Godzilla film. Biollante, especially in adult form, is perfect; not a flaw what so ever. The Godzilla suit is wonderful, and made way for the rest of the Heisei suits, which may be my favorite. The story is great, the acting is good, the music is trariffic, though the song 'bio-wars' could have been cut. It has several Ifukube themes, which is always very nice. Is there ANYTHING worng with this film? Yes! It stars Miki Sagusa! The most evil character of all kaijudom! Because of this film (in which she had to big a part), Miki became the only character to appear in every G-film up to GvsD. But other then that, out of five stars I give 4 to 41/2.

All right, as anyone bored enough to actually read my profile knows, Godzilla vs. Biollante ranks as one of my favorite kaiju flicks.

But it wasn't always this way.

Back when I first watched it, I was fresh off of a massive Showa rental binge, which had been triggered by seeing G'85.

It must be understood that in my town, the heisei films were and are very hard to track down on video (DVDs hadn't made it big yet), so I just watched Showa flicks over. And over. And over.

And then along comes Godzilla vs. Biollante, and all I can think is, "THIS is Godzilla's foe? Come on. An overgrown rosebush?!" It never seemed to cross my mind that an "overgrown rosebush" was no sillier than a three-headed dragon from space, when you come right down to it.

So, for quite some time, I socked GvB away as one of my least favorite flicks, and went on to ooh and ah over the rest of the beam-happy Heisei era as it gradually arrived in my town's rental shops.

And then, some years later, freshly disgusted with G2K, I came across the Biollante tape again. And lo and behold, I was amazed. This was the movie I'd knocked? The miniature work was astonishing. The human scenes were some of the best I'd ever seen in a kaiju film. The feeling of terror invoked by Godzilla, the sheer dread that the possibility of his release called up was absolutely amazing.

And, of course, I was paying more attention to the "overgrown rosebush." The superb regenerative properties, the sheer force of the acidic sap, the tentacles... to say nothing of how friggin' cool the final form looked.

I had come 180 degrees.

So anyway... Just my own story on the movie (since there doesn't seem to be a thread about it at present).

I'm just wondering if anybody else started off hating it, then swung the other point of view?

Biollante, for me, has always been a good film. Biollante's execution was marvelous but I guess I think most of the Godzilla scenes are a little dull and that some of the human element just wasn't that great. For me, it's a good film but nothing really spectacular.

Same thing happened to me. I despised Godzilla vs Biollante. I just thought of the movie as long and boring. I got the movie when I was about 10. But as I got older and matured and rewatched Godzilla vs Biollante I was shocked. I never understood why I hated the movie. I think it was because Godzilla lost to Biollante I am not really sure, I don't remeber. I always wanted for Godzilla to win at that time. But when I rewatched the movie Godzilla lost because Biollante's Acid Sap raised Godzilla's temparture and the anti-bacteria knocked out Godzilla.

Any way the movie is great and is one of the best if not the best of the Heisei series.

Yeah when I was younger I thought the movie was boring but was impressed by Biollante's final stage and Godzilla's new appearance, but overtime the story and music just grew on me. Now its ranked higher on my favorite G-flick list.

Maybe its just me but some G-films need multiple viewings to enjoy them, although there are still some I still can't bear to watch. Oh well :dozing:

I like it. I wacthed it tonight after not seeing it for about three years (just bought it tonight). Biollante's final form is a force to be reckoned with! The human scenes are finally interesting! And godzilla doesn't look that bad either. The spfx are awesome, and I love the part where bio attacks those thieves in the lab with her vines. The battles ain't that bad either. A good movie.

I love Godzilla versus Biollante. The only thing I don't like in the whole movie is the tentacle puppets. They look so cheap...

Biollante is one of my favorite monsters. I think it's so cool that even though Godzilla is over 200 feet tall in that movie, Biollante dwarfs him!

The first time I watched Godzilla vs. Biollante I loved it! I could never put my finger on why - I usually just summed it up with, "A poetic Godzilla movie - cool."

Now I am older - and I still love it! It has always been swirling around in my top three. I enjoy the story, the characters, the kaiju, the action, the JSDF, the music - it all comes together to form an effective and entertaining movie.

My friend Che came up yesterday, and I told him to bring up Godzilla Vs. Biollante, because its been atleast a year or two since I last sat down and enjoyed it. I love that film. I've been comparing to what came after it, and man, Biollante does not disappoint. Everything in the film looks so DAMN real, and its amazing. The music is original, creative and inventive and really suits the film (Ifukube's scores, IMO, for the later Heisei films are as good). Kôichi Sugiyama did excellent job on the score... The Bio-Wars theme is one of the best pieces of music I have ever listened to. And when you're watching GvB, and you compare it to the later Heisei films... the others seemed so rushed and sloppy, but Biollante is miles ahead of them. I love the story to the film aswell, and the adrenalin that pumps all the way through out the movie. I have seen a lot people complain about the human scenes in the past.... Damn, the human scenes are some of the greatest I've ever seen in a Godzilla movie. The opening scene with the Bio-Major spies dressed up as soldiers shooting the Japanese to pieces, and SSS9 just comes out of nowhere and shots the three Americans to Hell. I was so amazed the first time when I saw that scene, it was unlike any Godzilla film I had ever watched. The film was dark, and serious and had none of that silly.... Elias, or Futurian crap!!! Thank God. I love this movie. The Special Effects are also amazing, if I haven't already stated... Everything just looked so damn real... Biollante, the sets... everything. It felt real, like I was watching an actually event. I can not stress how wonderful this Godzilla film... and how pathetic the rest of the Heisei proved to be (sadly). I prefer the special effects of this film, to the later Millenium films aswell.

I dig those sun glasses he wore in the film. I had four different pairs of that style... they all broke (not at the same time mind you).

Me, I'll never forget Biolante. I first got a boot leg VHS copy of it from a dealer back in about 1990. I didn't even know there was a NEW Godzilla movie out. I was afraid it would be like the awful , boring Godzilla 1984. But, when I watched it, I couldn't believe how cool it was!

Biolante is definantly the best of the Heisi movies, and way better than any of the Millenium series of silliness. The chartacters are not bad at all. The story is differant and clever, better than any of the other Heisi (or Millenium) films.

I'm a firm Ifukube man myself, but Biolante's score isn't bad. I really like some of it. I like it better than any of Hatori's scores.

By far, Biolante has the best effects of the Heisi series. Excellantly planned and photographed. The rest of the Heisi films effects look rushed and poorly planned out.

Biolante is the best monster to come out of Toho since the Showa era. Better than anything that has followed it. The Biolante Godzilla suit is THE ultimate design! The dark eyes, the deep roar, everything is perfect. This is the ultimate Godzilla design, so far above the TRASH Toho has come up with for the Millenium series, that it's not even funny. I just can't say enough of how much I love this Godzilla design, I was heart broke when Toho re-desgned him for the Mothra movie.

The Super-X2 is the only anti-Godzilla weapon that has ever made much sense. Being remote controled , it is perfect to fight a monster who will probably destroy it. And the fire mirror scenes are unforgetable. You almost begin to think they can defeat Godzilla.

So, I'm glad to see I'm not alone in my liking of good old Biolante. If only Toho could turn out another one as good as that.

Also, here something,I don't know if anyone else has caught it.But, one of the old 1955 multiple rocket launchers has a cameo appearence in Biolante. Yes, one of those old rocket launchers first used in Gigantis, the fire monster. It's during the JSDF attack on Godzilla in the Thunder feild. When Godzilla returns fire with his ray, if you look closely, one of the veichiles hit is one of the old multilpe rocket trucks.

Obviously these "other people" are not at this forum, if you actually read the previous posts you would see that the majority of the members here enjoy the film. And the reason that Godzilla was slugish in the second fight is because of the ANEB taking its toll on him.

I heart Biollante. First and foremost, one of my favorite kaiju EVER.

I love this film. I love the music, I love the kaiju, I love the fights. I love the story, I love the way they depict the fahter loss, and his yearning to ahve a connection with her. I love the pyshcic kids (who doesn't love all the kids drawings of Godzilla?), I love Miki.

And it has Biollante. One of the best kaiju period in my opinion. Especially all the ways she can be used, and the ramifications of her existence.

The movie was "meh" to me. From an artistic standpoint, it is great work. But the movie gets boring for me most of the time. I enjoy it to some degree, but still. I guess its my weird curse then that the g-movies I like alot get hated by the fandom, and the g-movies I am not as fond of are well loved by the fans. I hope I will enjoy gojira when classic media brings it to dvd and My curse does not take place here. I did enjoy KOTM though if that helps.

I'm a huge Godzilla vs. Biollante advocate. It's undoubtedly my favorite Godzilla film. So unique, so stylized, so realistic in interpretation, so underrated. The plot, the characters, the music, the special effects, the kaiju designs and execution. Absolutely awesome.

We need to petition Miramax to release it on DVD with an abundance of extra features, or at least relinquish their rights to Toho so someone else can pick it up.

Well, in the final battle he couldn't have ran far anyway. Biollante was all over the place, and could get access to Goji quite easily.

No monster fights in it and his eys looked horrible boring.

I liked it. Godzilla looked very good, the human cast was, for once, remotley believable, the SX2 was ok (though I got tired of the song after oh, the seventh time they played it), and it was actually fairly logical for a Godzilla movie. Biollante was pretty impressive in her final stage, and I liked how she wasn't a humanoid like most Kaiju, which gave her a unique design. And I liked the scene where she grabs the agents with her vines. The only problem I have with the movie is the music. Godzilla's attacking and they're playing carnival music! WTF!? Other than that, it's very well-done.

Yes exactly. They can not just concentrate on monster fights all the time. They have to concentrate on the characters. This movie has a great cast, and this is my favorite movie with the character Miki Saegusa.

Wow! I didn't think that people still went to this old thread! Well, Its cool that you all still appreciate this movie and so do I. I understand that alot of you including myself would like to see the film on DVD. As some of you still know, Gvs.Bio is still with Miramax and they have either yet to realize that their rights to the film have expired, or they still have it, but just don't care or forgot about it and might release it realizing that the 50th anniversery of G might spark their interest into releasing it. If I was head at miramax for movie distribution and rights, I would sell it to Sony or try and get the rights back... But thats just me.

Oh, my gosh......:sarcasm: Not enough Godzilla, are you kidding me, he was in like 75% of this movie. His appearence at Mt. Mihara, battle with the Super X2, battle with the first Biollante, his encounter with Miki, his attack upon Osaka, his second battle with the Super X, the battle between him and the army, and then the final battle between him and Biollante. And you are saying that there was not enough Godzilla. If you ask me, I would have liked to see more Biollante. The monster battles were long enough. You don't want them to be too long and dragged out, after a while it tends to get boring.

The movies can not just concentrate on the kaiju alone. You need characterization between humans. If that isn't that way, then the movie is pretty much worthless. You need actors in order to perfect the film, making it clearer and more enjoyable to watch.

Spelling, MG, spelling.......

Anyhoo.....they should be kaiju in the movie that is true. Kaiju and a human cast need each other in order to make the movie its best.
