View Full Version : F-bomb in Godzilla vs. Hedorah??

I know I'm tired, I was working stock all night and haven't slept. But I listened to this like fifty times, and it's unmistakable.

Go put in your Godzilla vs. Hedorah DVD and fast foward to the part where Hedorah arrives on Mt. Fuji. More specifically, where Hedorah approaches the kids, and they decide to throw torches at him.

One guy is like "Throw more torches at it, yeah!" or something to that extent, which is followed by one torch-thrower yelling "F*** you!"

I don't know, I thought they never said anything like that in these flicks. Up until Final Wars, of course. Is this like, common knowledge, and I am the last to find out? Or am I crazy? I don't think I am...

EDIT: Watched it again, the exact time is 57:36.

No clue! But I encourage everyone with the Sony DVD to go check it out.

Dude, if you or anyone has it on tape from Sci-Fi... and it DOESN'T appear there. Then that in itself may be proof that it is what I believe it is.

Then again, if every Godzilla fan in the world missed it, perhaps censors did too?

I checked it out and it does sound like that is what he says, but I think it's just F you and not the full word, but it's so faint it's really hard to tell for sure either way.

They swear all the time in Godzilla flicks, just not to the point where its a problem or prevalant in conversation.
-In godzilla vs gigan, that gal called that artist guy an a$$hole when she saw his picture of a villan looked like her.
-I remember 'god damn lizard' in Godzilla vs Megaguirus
-In the rialto version of Godzilla '54 the subtitles say in one scene, 'Damn it! DAMN it!'

(I hope this post doesn't get me in trouble. I was only giving examples).

That's really hardly cursing, though. I mean, that kind of "foul" language could appear in a G-rated kids flick, no problem. However, the inclusion of words like "fu**" or "sh**" are often surprising in Godzilla films.

You forgot one: the artist calls the woman a ***** in Godzilla vs Gigan. I think that the lead monkey fellow from GvsMG also cruses Godzilla.

True, but my mom got mad when she over heard all of the above. I recall sh** in Godzilla and Mothra: the battle for earth.

Yup.
After Godzilla took down Mechagodzilla in the first battle between them two, he stated "Son of a :cursing: !" angrily as Godzilla walked off. This was in the Tri-star version only if I'm not mistaken. Come to think of it, there was a ridiculous amount of swearing in the Tri-star Heisei flicks, despite the younger people buying them more than the adults. I wonder what the kids' parents thought when they heard all this swearing.... kinda ruined Godzilla's reputation for them.

HBO's Godzilla vs. Biollante used God's name in vein alot, as well as the SH word a few times. :eh: Unnecessary stuff. It seemed that the 70s and 90s Godzilla films had the most swearing in them.

I wouldn't say so, if anything, it might have helped more and actually showed Goji just isn't for kids...and never should have been transformed into an image for them.

Oh please, swearing doesn't make anything any more adultish

I guess that's why movies that show little blood and sex, if any are rated-R...

It seemed that the 70s and 90s Godzilla films had the most swearing in them. The Tristar released Heisei movies did have a lot of profanity. Plus I remember Biollante especially had a lot of cursing. I was watching it for the first time with my brother and out of nowhere the two theives that broke into Dr. Shirigami's lab shout out the s-word! That movie had almost every curse except the f word. I remember when I saw the heisei movies for the frst time I'd make sure to see it alone first so I'd know where the curses were and that really wasn't all that fun having to do that. It's not necessary and instead of just sitting down to enjoy the movie you have to worry about that and it's distracting. It doesn't make the movie "cooler" or "more adult" either, if you absolutely need vulgarity then does that make you mature? No it makes you vulgar of course.

Well hey, we might as well enjoy discussing it before this topic gets locked down. Either Raptor or Jet Jaguar will reasonably shut it down immediately if it gets out of hand. Frankly, I don't see what the big deal is thus far.

Isn't that just ruining Godzilla's reputation for parent's letting their children watching the films? I mean, I'm sure there are alot of instances when a mom lets their kid pick up a Tri-star Heisei G film, then hearing the language and saying "We're not getting anymore of these films!"
Then again, most parents these days don't give a damn on what their kids are seeing.

Goji films have already proven they're not just for kids, adding in any more suggestive themes to a giant monster movie only meant for fun is stupid

In the Japanese version of GvGigan, he calls the woman "Momagon" and I believe she called him a cheeky pig when she saw the drawing. And what dubbed version do they say the F word, is it the dubbed version in the new DVD of Godzilla vs Hedorah, or the old VHS version?

The Momagon thing is just with Tristars DVD, or so I belive.

In the Japanese version of GvGigan, he calls the woman "Momagon" and I believe she called him a cheeky pig when she saw the drawing. I found that line a lot more ORIGINAL and to the point than calling him some overused American slang word, probably starting with a B... :dozing:

I checked it out and, while the dubbing is really different from my VHS version, it sounded like he may have said it, but with all of the other people talking, I cannot say I am 100% sure. Even with my ear right up to one of the speakers on the TV I still could not clearly make it out. It would be hard for me to imagine that they left that word in when the DVD says the rating is PG.

Watch GvsGigan in Japanese, and you can clearly hear him say Momagon. And did she really call him a cheeky pig? Also, I watched my Godzilla vs Hedorah on DVD, and it sounds very much like he said that

^yes, she did. I checked out my GvsH DVD, and they only say "F you!". They don't go through with the whole word. In fact, it sounded like they said it two or three times before getting themselves killed.

I heard a lot of stuff like "Throw torches!" and "YOU!!!", but I only heard what I believe to be "F*** you!" once, and that was at exactly 57:36.

I highly doubt they would say "F you!" to a monster.

I know some people here say it to certain Robot Superhero Admins when they're not looking...:D

I don't know if anyone is still on this topic but I gotta say this.

I've noticed that before and always wonder that. I don't think it is really the F-bomb though. I can think of several instances where the words that the people in Kaiju movies are unclear. If you watch Mechagodzilla(74) DVD with english subtitles, you will notice a scene where a word that is unclear is represented with "???".
Once my Hedorah DVD shows up, i will watch this over and over and over, and use the subtitles, and hopefully this will be cleared up once and for all.

I watched Godzilla vs. Hedorah last week or the week before (and enjoyed it a lot actually) and of course watched for this scene. There definitely are more than a few parts that sound like it there was one loud part that definitely sounded like the F-bomb and then the lower quieter ones being just "f you" possibly but I was surprised, I even played it back a few times and it really sounded like it. The one I have is recorded from sci-fi years ago probably mid-late 90's when they first started showing that and Destroy all Monsters. Or of course maybe it's saying something totally different and Toho would laugh at us for thinking such a thing.

Well, it ain't no joke - I watched "Godzilla Vs. Hedorah" on my newly purchased DVD and it is as clear as crystal - one of the hippies at Mt. Fuji tells Hedorah "f*ck you!"

Man, that's trouble with hippies. They want peace but have such potty mouths. I guess that shouldn't be an issue when they are yelling at a creature that is literally a walking, flying, swimming piece of crap. Nevertheless, I guess the people who want "true peace" just have to be cockroaches... but that is another story.
