<font color='#008080'>I like all of them about the same, but I'll choose Rodan, Titanosaurus, Angilas, and Varan. I also want to say King Seeser since he doesn't actually have any beam attacks of his own. But just for reference purposes here are all the other Toho Showa tooth &amp; claw monsters I can think of.

Angilas
Dogora
Ebirah
Gaila
Ganime
Gezora
Gorosaurus
Kamakiras
Kameba
King Kong
King Seeser
Magma
Manda
Meganuron
Mothra
Oodako
Ookondoru
Ooumihebi
Rodan
Sanda (I refer to him and Frankenstein as the same)
Speiga/Kumonga
Titanosaurus
Kroiga
Varan

<font color='#000F22'>Angilas, Gailah and Titanosaurs. Kroiga (the lion from Latitude Zero) was an interesting critter to say the least, I was she had more screentime in the film and I am somewhat of Gezora and Dogora fan too. The 16mm American print of Dogora is so bad that you can't even see the damn thing, he's much more visible in the Japanese version. I love his tentacled form.
And King Caesar can shoot a ray from his eyes, him and Mechagodzilla exchanged rays for a while. Also, I'm not sure if Rodan should count since he can shoot a firebeam in his Heisei incarnation.

<font color='#008080'>No he can't. Just go get you're copy of the Official Godzilla Compendium. It says right in there. He can only reflect Mecha-Godzilla's eye beams, he doesn't actually have any of his own.

Are you sure. I wouldn't trust anything that book says. Plus, being able to reflect Mechagodzilla's rays still places him above the &quot;tooth and claw&quot; level.

Another Compendium Basher...

&nbsp; I would go with Anguirus. Even with no powers, he was able to stand and fight against dread foes such as King Ghidorah and Gigan. He stands his ground and never says die. He was even willing to single handedly fight a monster (MechaGodzilla) that took the combined might of Godzilla and King Seezar to defeat.

Maybe I was a little harsh on the Conpendium. It's actually a pretty decent book for anyone interested in Godzilla, but it does have it's share of errors, but most books do.
The worst book ever information wise is Thomas Weissler's Japanese Cinema Encylopedia: Horror, Science Fiction, Fantasy Films, my god, it's utterly sloppy and it's pretty obvious that the blowhard hasn't even seen half the films. It does have some great pictures though and does have some reviews of some pretty obscure films, but honestly, I could write a much better and less error riddled book about this subject at the age I am now, 17.

A toughy question. I might have to go with Rodan. He is just cool.

Titanosaurus I think is the strongest when it comes to tooth and claw combat. He duked it out with Godzilla pretty good, put some serious hurt on him, flailing him about in the grip of his powerful jaws like he were a ragdoll, gave him a few good punches and then buried him alive. Okay, so he had a little help from Mecha-Godzilla every so often, but that was just the firepower that he himself lacked to match that of Godzilla's. Godzilla only started winning when the humans interfered.

Rodan or Titanosaurus for me. Rodan, because he actually gave Godzilla a run for his money, had an incredible solo movie, and is simply one of the most powerful tooth and claw Kaiju ever. I picked Titanosaurus because of his tremendous dispaly of strength, and because he's quite possibly the strongest [ physically ] Kaiju in the Showa era.

Peace,

Melkor

Mine would be Varan. Even if he's never fought another monster, I love this kaiju half to death.

Gorosaurus, Anguirus, and Rodan for sure. &nbsp; Why? &nbsp;Fighhting experience. &nbsp;Gorosaurus was a vicous, carninvourous beast in his first film. &nbsp;I doubt that he wouldn't fight other dinosaurs before Kong showed up. &nbsp;Rodan, well, he's freaking Rodan. &nbsp; And Anguirus, if the one in DAM is the same as the one in Godzilla's Counterattack, is one tough little mo-fo to say the least. &nbsp; He takes a licking, but keeps on tickin. &nbsp; All the others seem too afraid of conflict or too weak to put up a good fight.

Showa Godzilla

What Showa Kaiju from the showa era do you think are the best hand-to-hand fighters?

My list (top ten, in no order)
Showa Godzilla: Smart, crafty, strong, and agile.
Showa King Ghidorah: He could easily knock back most Kaiju he went up against (don't know what happened in GVSG though...)
Jet Jaguar: A great HTH fighter (even if Gigan did beat him at one point).
King seesar: I quick, agile, and strong fighter.
Showa Anguirus: Tenacious, and ferocious.
Showa Mechagodzilla: trounced Anguirus, and gave seesar a beating.
Showa Gigan: Not the best, but he did eat JJ, and gave goji a good fight.
Showa Kong (when charged): (a ruthless and clever hth fighter)
Titanosaurus: Tremendous strength (lifted goji with his teeth)

Kong and Titanosaurus have to be the best, 'cause they're the only ones who put up a decent fight against Godzilla, of all monsters, most of the movies they were in and still managed to kick his tailed butt WITHOUT beam weapons.

I think the best Showa fighters are Rodan seen Rodan is able to knock Ghidora out of the sky in Ghidora the 3 headedmonster. Also Hedora the Smogmonster was really strong I think hedors is over looked as far as being powerful. No dount KingGhidora is probley the strongest next to Godzilla and MechaGodzilla. I hate to say it but Mothra is really strong ughh I really hated saying that. I dont give KingKong any credit for being strong after all King Kong backed off when Godzilla blasted him and through out the movie Godzilla was beating him Kong gets lucly twice in the movie and that makes him a good fighter lol. Here's to my #2 favorite monsters. All are coequal in my eyes. Gigan, Rodan, Anguiras.

As to their fighting abilities, well, Anguirus is probably not that good, but he sure has lots of spirit, and keeps coming back for more.

Rodan is good. Probably has something to do with being able to fly at supersonic speeds and survive the impact of running into another monster going that fast.

Gigan is great. Claws and a buzzsaw. That's really all you need, eh? :D

The thing about Hedorah, Mothra, and King Ghidorah, is that they're really not tooth n' claw, now are they?

I don't mean just monsters without beams. King Ghidorah Usually battered most monsters up close when they tried to fight him in hth.

I would have to say the original Anguirus (the one from Raids Again), Rodan, Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, Gigan, and Mechagodzilla. Hedorah is powerful, but is more sludge and pollution than tooth and claw :D

Like that guy said, just because Mech and Ghidorah have lots of ranged attacks doesn't take away from their mele combat ability! Ghidorah really didn't use his beams that much, and he did mostly physically attack foes that came close. Remember what happened in G:TTHM when Godzilla tried to grapple with him?

giganlover217

Anguirus for reasons that have already been discussed a lot.

Mechagodzilla for tearing Angy's jaw apart and traumatizing me in my youth.

Godzilla in the early Showa films, before he started to let his beam do all the work.

King Kong for taking on Godzilla and (seemingly) winning.

MINYA! *rofl*

I'd say Anguirus. He's got no beams and takes beating after beating and still comes back for more.

For sheer carnage, Gigan. You get close, you get cut. Simple.

For speed, Seesar. The big ol' Okinawan was the fastest ground Kaiju I'd seen until Kiryu. And speed counts. So does denting Mechagodzilla's armor. Nice jujitsu moves, too. When he bothers to use 'em.

Jet Jaguar. Good technique. Bad, bad movie.

And Sanda and Gaira were just brutal.

Burkion
July 21st, 2006, 10:14 AM
Kumonga.

Why? The guy can kill anyone that doesn't have regen/a good enough beam.

*Remember, it took TWO Showa Goji beams constantly fireing to free Godzilla for Kumonga's webbing, one from Minya and the other from the big G himself.*

anguirus55
July 24th, 2006, 11:47 AM
In terms of defense, Anguirus, just because there's no easy way to come at him.

In terms of offense, Gorosaurus. Not the little one that got killed by Kong, the one that made King Ghidorah his *****.

Overall: Titanosaurus. He doesn't have much in the way of natural weapons, but his sheer strength and durability gave Godzilla a hard time.

And I agree with the poster above, without some kind of special defense Kumonga is very hard to contend with. He'd beat either of the above unless they are somehow able to fight off his poison...but that kind of violates the spirit of "tooth and claw" don't it?

Well, what do you mean by best?

Best can mean how it is executed on screen, how it looks, how powerful it is?

I guess you mean how powerful it is, so it was have to be Godzilla or King Kong.

My favourite however is Titanosaurus.
