I've decided to create this thread so that the College Basketball games can be talked about. There are some good games coming up, so discuss away.

Okay now, let's keep this clean. I know that rivalries run deep in Collegiate sports, but let's not put down anybody else's teams. That can only lead to bad things.
Remember:
Rivalries: Good.
Flaming/dissing/putting down/ ETC. others: Not Good.

I was about to Bumpapotomus this thread, since it kinda died off. But now the tournament is starting, So it's time to see some action in here. Is anyone, besides Gorjirus and I, excited about the tournament?
GO KENTUCKY WILDCATS!!!!!!!!

WIz got me a little excited about it. I haven't ever gotten real involved in basketball or anything, but there's a first for everything. Plus, from what I hear, Illinois is has a good chance at winning it. Go IL!

I picked 13 correct games yesterday, missing the Cincy-Iowa, Alabama-Wis. Mill, and LSU-UAB games. Oh well, still a lot more to go!
Louisville plays today against the Raijin Caujins of Louisiana-Lafayette. GO CARDINALS!!!!

Besides, then Louisville would have three championships.

There's no way UofL would get three champoinships if they played Kentucky in the final match. The rabid fans would kill each other of after the riot breaks out.
Don't laugh, If UL and UK played in the final match, there would be riots throughout Kentucky. Anyone else here agree? Gorjirus? Wiz?
Oh, one more thing:
Breathe if you hate Duke. *SNIFF*

That is true. You would be the first to go.
Louisvulle won there first game over the rajin cajin's 68-62.
But the big news is that Vermont defeated Syracuse in overtime. Good thing I had them losing to Duke, or my bracket would be really bad...

My team blew the doors of everyone. And who else can come back by 20 points and still win? They will crush Illionis with one swing of their wing. My prediction Louisville and UNC and if I'm right I'll win the bracket. GO LOUISVILLE!! The Cardinels will win it all!:D

Whoever wins between Illinois and Louisville will win the championship. UNC is not that great of a team. In fact, if it weren't for that "traveling" call in the Villanova game, we would be talking about Wisconsin or Villanova in the Final Four. All four teams have weaknesses but Louisville, from what I have seen, seems to be the strongest out of the four.
I really don't care who gets there unless UNC goes to the championship. If they go, I will be rooting for either Illinois or Lousiville. Anybody but UNC is all I say.
Gorjirus
April 5th, 2005, 08:40 PM
Sadly, Louisville lost and UNC won the national championship, giving Roy Williams his first as head coach.
However, there is always next year...
kent
April 5th, 2005, 11:34 PM
Well I stand corrected that whoever won between Louisville and Illinois would win it all. But better but an asterisk next to UNC in the record books seeing that they didn't truely defeat Villanova in the Sweet 16. The refs decided that game. To be quite honest, I am upset that they won. Just when I was actually rooting for Illinois, they go and lose!
Gorjirus
November 19th, 2005, 05:10 PM
And "next season" is here! The 05-06 college basketball season is here.
I am pumped for Louisville this year. One of our big men is out until conference schedule's begin however, and most of the team is freshmen. But they are talented freshmen with potential.
I don't think Louisville should be ranked 7th, but hey, its fine with me!

Since I'm just now seeing this, as an ardent UNC fan, I have to respond six months late to an asinine comment here.
"But better but an asterisk next to UNC in the record books seeing that they didn't truely defeat Villanova in the Sweet 16. The refs decided that game. To be quite honest, I am upset that they won. "
Kent, I hate to say this, but that is really ignorant...
Just because of an admittedly controversial call at the end of one game with Villanova, we should discount Carolina's other awesome victories? Wisconsin? Michigan State? Or Illinois? To say the refs decided the game is just childish and shows you to be a sore loser. There, now that I've said that, you all are going to count UNC out this year, but be warned, "To be the man, you got to beat the man..." And we, my friends are still the defending champions of the world. We didn't have the top recruiting class for nothing....
Gorjirus
November 22nd, 2005, 08:49 PM
PFT!
A recruiting class doesn't equal = last years seasoned National Championship team.
I am sorry, but I see Duke defeating the ACC. Final Four? I don't know.
But hey... <.< >.> >.< .... Kentucky lost to Iowa......
I can't say anything bad... but I can still mention it!

I was impressed that Indiana managed to keep so close to Duke the other night. That was a really good game.
And the UNC/Illinois rematch game wasn't half bad either. Though you can really tell what all UNC lost by comparing the two games.
This weekened, Louisville plays three games in three days (Saturday, Sunday, Monday). Should win all three, but I will be excited because Padgett will finally get to play after being injured.

As for this year, who knows, maybe an upset ACC championship? Duke didn't look all-powerful against Indiana
Gorjirus
December 3rd, 2005, 09:27 PM
Indiana really played up for that game as well. They made it so close by getting Sheldon Williams into foul trouble early. But if UNC plays like they did today this early in the season, they will most likely make it too or past the second weekend come March.
And Louisville won today as well. It wasn't exactly a blow out, but with so many freshmen this early, and people playing fresh off of injuries and surgery, you can only expect so much.

I usually don't get really into the NCAA tournament, but this year I'm paying a lot more attention. There were somre really close games already, and if this is any indicated, it's gonna be an awesome tournament.

BUMP.
Is anyone else shocked by the lack of upsets this year? We have 1 vs. 2 on both sides of the bracket this year which is kinda surprising. Heck, no double diget team made the Sweet 16 (first time in 12 years) and a seed no lower than 3 was in the Elite 8!
Well in any case both my finalists are still in it.
Florida vs. Georgetown. Go Gtown!
Gorjirus

I'm not shocked at all. My Final Four was dead on too.
But I'm not shocked. The teams this year have pretty much been, the best, and the rest. There just wasn't much parity this year as there have been in the past. Been like that all year.

Love College Bball, Big East dominated 3 out of the 4 top seeds, and Louisville does look like a promising contender. Their press is way too problematic for most teams, menus ones with elite point guards at the helm.
Big Ten getting 7 bids>??? That's absurd. Screw the Big Ten conference. Mich State is the best team in that conference, and they're overrated.

Indeed. Wisconsin had no business being in at all. Michigan I am torn with since they have quality wins over Duke and UCLA. But Wisconsin is junk.
But except for them, overall, the group of 65 looks good.
Still not sure who I will have in the Final 4 yet, but I still think UNC wins it all.

UNC has a good shot if Lawson A) starts playing again, and B) plays like he did before he was hurt. If he isn't up to par, I think UNC will have a much harder time.

Well, I know Lawson will be back for the tourny, but UNC getting to the Final Four I think is plausible even IF Lawson is not completely healthy. Their Bracket is actually pretty weak. Syracuse and Oklahoma are the only real threats at all in the South.
Gorjirus
March 17th, 2009, 02:17 PM
And I think that both of those teams would be capable of beating UNC. (Especially if UNC goes up against BE Tourny version of Syracuse.) But not 100% certainty.

East:
1. Pittsburgh
6. UCLA
South:
1. UNC
3. Syracuse
Final 4:

1. UNC

So UNC, who made it to their Conference Semi Finals (without Lawson, who will be back for the tourny) is not playing well, but Pitt, who lost in the first round of their Conference Tourny to West Virginia deserves more credit?:eyebrow:
Sure the Big East is a superior conference to the ACC (not by much though), but really? No problem with the choice of Pitt really, but that comment is kinda questionable.

No, UNC loses potential to win a championship because of injuries and they are not really playing that well. They have the most talent in the country, but in my opinion are not clicking on all cylinders. In the NCAA, the PG is so very important. With an injuried PG, UNC is gonna be hurting.

I'm looking forward to a Spartan/Cardinal showdown this weekend, as grim a prospect that may be for MSU.
Gorjirus
March 23rd, 2009, 05:17 PM
MSU is going to have to get through a really good Kansas squad first. This isn't last year's team, but they are still playing pretty good and did win the Big 12 regular season title.
But that should be a really good game, and they played well against USC.

March 23rd, 2009, 05:56 PM
I am not underestimating or looking past Kansas (well, I can all I want, as long as Izzo and Co don't). For what it's worth, we DID beat them rather decisively in January. I'm well aware they've stepped it up since then, but I'm still feeling fairly confident.

The problem with Michigan Stare is that they had a lot of trouble against an average USC team. If they play like that against Kansas who is leagues better, they will lose.

One problem, Pitt is playing down to their competition. Almost losing to Oklahoma State and playing like absolute garbage against a 16 Seed is proof of that. They may not even beat Xavier the way they are playing right now. UNC is playing a lot better on against their competition even with a hobbled Ty Lawson. (surprisingly, UConn, who I thought would be the weakest 1 Seed is playing the best, obliterating both of their opponents rather easily.)

Congrats! I mean, I personally hope Louisville fails hard Sunday, but I realize the odds of that happening are not favorable, to say the least.
I don't know if you get much choice in seating, but try to sit somewhere elevated. You don't see much in b-ball at Ford Field if your seats are on the turf (especially if you're behind the band).

As a Spartan, I can't ask for a better performance than that. I was expecting another gritty, gut-it-out game going down to the wire, and while I always thought victory was possible, I didn't think it would be that decisive.
Things certainly aren't getting any easier against UConn on Saturday, but considering the game's location, I'd feel pretty confident with another performance like that.

And down goes UConn! We're in the championship game, and I'll be there! Of course, UNC thrashed us at Ford Field in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, but that was with us missing Suton (who has easily been our best player in the tourney) and we were generally nowhere near the level we're at now. I don't wanna be unrealistic, but after knocking off two consecutive one-seeds and playing 90 miles from campus (and less than 20 from my house), it's pretty dang easy to feel confident.

Conference champs, taking out the defending national champs and two one-seeded Big East teams...I can't really complain about a season like that. And being in Ford Field with an overwhelmingly pro-Spartan crowd (there were even a couple Fighting Irish sitting in front of me pulling for State-that just doesn't happen) was amazing, at least until about 9:45. Don't worry Gor, the Womens L-Ville team will lose just like the Mens Team did. :p
In any case, I knew UNC was going to win it before the year even started, not surprising that they did. They had so much talent... They steamrolled EVERYBODY in the tournament. Their talent was just too much for the field coming in.
EDIT: Looks like I was wrong... They got beatdown even worse than the Mens Team. XD
