Golden Voyage of Sinbad, I find, to be a pretty good film. Although, and I hate to say it, but I find myself bored sometimes watching these films. Anyways, I thought the man who played Sinbad was good but not as good as the actor in 7th Voyage. The special effects are great and it is a great fantasy film.

8/10

Harryhausen, you don't need to say anymore than that.

I've really been meaning to see this film, if only for the gryphon. Once I can rebuild my money reserves, I'll have to go out and buy it. From the sounds of things, it's very good, so I'll be watching for it...

Bruce if you don't have any of the movies there are two different Ray Harryhausen DVD 5 packs that are out.

The Fantasy Pack has:

The Golden Voyage of Sinbad
The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad
Sinbad & the Eye of the Tiger
Jason and the Argonauts
Three Worlds of Gulliver

The Sci-Fi Pack has:

It Came from Beneath the Sea
Earth vs. the Flying Saucers
20 Million Miles to Earth
Mysterious Island
H.G. Wells' First Men in the Moon

You should be able to get them for about $40 each, which is a good price and well worth it for films of this quality.

$40 American, perhaps...but that translates to much more up here in Canada. I've been wanting to buy the Fantasy Pack for quite some time, and I was intent on buying it when I went to Best Buy a month ago, thinking I might be able to snatch it for roughly $50 ($75 originally, plus a $25 gift card). But they jacked up the price on the damn thing to $90, which was about all the cash I had in my wallet at the time. The $25 card wouldn't have helped much, not the way I saw it. There were other things I wanted to buy besides the pack, so I decided to forgo it and instead got Mysterious Island. Guess I'll have to pull some cash out of my savings account and head for Wal-Mart (the pack is *only* about $75 there).

Anyway, that was rather long-winded of me. I'm looking forward to getting this film on DVD, and I'll let you know what I think of it when I do finally get my hands on it.

MY favorite part is the fight between the centaur and the griffin at the end, pretty cool, even if it only lasted 20 seconds.

How is Mysterious Island?

I'm planning to pick up these DVDs because I haven't seen them since growing up but not sure I've seen that one.

Great Premise though.

How is Mysterious Island?

Sorry to have to go off topic...but Mysterious Island is actually one of my favorite movies thus far. It was one of the Harryhausen films that just grabbed me for some inexplicable reason. Though it may be slightly short on creatures, what's there is good.

Cool.
If I end up not getting the DVD sets then I'll check this one out first.

Thanks.

I like this one a lot. Has a funny line in it too. "Believe in Allah...but tie up your camel." Deifinitely a fav, but I haven;t seen it in awhile.

How is Mysterious Island?

Go by Jeff's recommendation of getting the two sets! I bought them and they are one of the best DVD sets you will ever buy!
As far as Mysterious Island, it is a great movie! Although I thought it started off slow it picks up pretty quickly and it has a riveting story behind it; despite the fact that there aren't very many creatures in the film. The film is definitely a must see!
