Is there anyone else out there who is enjoying this creative and unorthadox retelling of a young Kal-el before he became the man of steel as much as I am?

Me, my dad, brother, and sister watch it every Wednesday. My sister's friend usually comes over and my sister usually cooks us something. After that we usually watch the LOST that I was recording in the other room. Yep, thats our Wednesday.

I watch every once in a while. It's not that bad of a show. For some reason, I think that Lex is the best character on there, when he's not being insane, but that's just me.

What's the show about anyways (besides the obvious, tales of teenage Superman)? I've only seen... two episodes (recent ones) and it seems like Lex and the skank are hiding secrets. Maybe its just the way their characters are, I don't know.

The hour and a half season finale of Smallville aired this past Wednesday and it totally blew me away! I have always felt that this show has had some of the best acting and storylines in all of genre TV, and in most cases alot better than most of the comic book adapted films that are flooding the market IMO. Tom Welling captures the very essence of Clark Kent while the rest of the cast backs him up wonderfully. John Glover(Lionel Luthor), Michael Rosenbaum(Lex Luthor) John Scheider(Jonathan Kent), Annete O' Toole(Martha Kent), Kristen Kruek(Lana Lang), and Allison Mack(Chloe Sullivan) do their part to make this show unforgetable. As this season ended we saw the arrival of a meteor shower that pulverizes Smallville to the ground imperiling everyone(with some gorgeous special effects by the way:thumbs: ), the arrival of another alien spaceship, murder, betrayal, shocks, and surprizes! Not to mention Clark being stranded in the middle of a frozen wasteland as he angrily hurls a kryptonian crystal into the snow. He he he, fans of the comics or films know where that last part is leading.:D
Afterward there was a special 10 minute preview of Batman Begins that looked awesome! After seeing Christian Bale in the movie "Equilibrium" I had thought to myself that he would make an excellent Batman, I can't wait for this one.

It does look good, but I have one huge complaint. WHAT THE (insert swear word here) did they do to the batmobile!!!???? Even the ones in the cartoons are better than that peice of crap they have in this new batman movie. I must say, I'm very dissappointed. :nonono2:

The show definetly marches to the beat of its own drum. If someone had told me about the concept of Clark Kent and Lex Luthor meeting when they were both very young and on top of that being good friends I probably would of told them they were nuts. But having watched the series since the beginning I can honestly say that I think it works wonderfully. And the way the characters are set against each other sometimes gives you that foreboding dense of dread that tells you how their friendship may ultimately end.:darklord:

It's official. James Marsters(a.k.a. 'Spike' from Buffy the vampire slayer and Angel) will be in the upcoming 5th season of Smallville as Professor Milton Fine a.k.a. BRAINIAC!!!
As a huge Marsters fan I am thrilled about this news myself, James is one hell of an actor and I hope he does the legendary villain proud in this role.

Actually the idea of a young Superman and Lex Luthor being freinds is from some of the old pre crisis comics.
But every time Lex offers someone a propisistion I just have to ad lib "Would you like to join my Legion Of Doom"

Got more news people! Boy do I ever! Repoetedly this will be the final season of Smallville so things are really going to start coming to a head. Aside from the arrival of Braniac later in the season the first episode of the new season will start with the creation of the Fortress of Solitude in the Arctic. Also, if you have been watching the show you saw that last season ended with the arrival of a strange black spaceship crashing down with part of a new meteor shower that devastated Smallville. Within the ship are two more Kryptonians by the names of 'Nam-ek' and 'Aethyr' and they are disciples of Zod!!! They begin a search for Kal-El that will apparently result in an amazing and brutal showdown!
If I dig up anything else I'll post it I assure you.

Did anyone else watch the season premere besides me? Looks like this could be the best season yet from what I've seen and read. I have yet to pick up seasons 3 and 4 on DVD but I plan to. So far the 4th and 5th seasons are the best ones yet IMO. As for who is going to die in the upcoming season, it could be anyone. The moment I heard that revelation I instantly thought that it would be Lana, but who knows what will happen next. I really like that they're starting to really blend allot more of the comic elements into the series and hope that allot more is on the way myself.
When the series finally wraps up I think it will be time for Goji to take another trip to Smallville in the 'Godzilla Chronicles'.;)
Also, for anyone out there who may be wondering, after some doubt and speculation the show has indeed been renewed for another season. It's ratings this season have picked back up and convinced the WB to keep the ball rolling for now.

^Yeah, I loved last season's finale and the start of this one too. Season 5 is currently my fav season of all time, I think it is the best yet.
The cheapest I've seen them is that some Walmarts(some not all) are currently selling seasons 1 and 2 for around $20-$25 dollars depending, with the later seasons being at $45. If you can find a Media Play that hasn't been too badly picked over yet since they're going out of business they currently have any and all DVDs at 40% off. 40% off of $60 dollars(which is what Media Play has the Smallville DVDs for)would place the current price at $36 dollars, and that's if they haven't gone down to 50 or 60 percent off yet already, some of them have. But I looked for the Smallville DVDs myself at the one near me and didn't find jack though. If you decide to look for them there my advice is that you do so ASAP. But otherwise Walmart is probably your best bet my friend.

Whatever happened to Pete? Iv'e missed most of the 1st two seasons and part of the 3rd so im cluless to him not being in the show.

January 5th, 2006, 05:14 PM
I can't remember if it was season 2 or 3, but Pete actually discovers Clark's secret. Pete finds the spaceship out in the cornfield at the Kent farm and tries to go public with it not knowing what it is or where it came from, but Clark steals it back enraging Pete who threatens to end their friendship. Desperate and out of options Clark uses his super speed to catch up to Pete who had angrily gotten into his car and left. When he sees Clark use his powers it freaks him out, but Clark explains and eventually gets him to keep the secret as well. Anyhow, over the course of the season Lionel suspects Clark is hiding somekind of secret but doesn't know exactly what it is, suspecting that Pete knows something he has a thug beat Pete to a bloody pulp trying to get him to spill what he knows but he doesn't. But the experience really shakes him up, so fearing that if things like this continue happening that he will eventually betray Clark's trust and also that something may happen to others that he cares about, he decides to leave Kansas with his Mother. He has a tearful goodbye with Clark at the Kent farm and then departs forever. This also traumatizes Clark who had at this point in the series planned on telling Lana his secret, but after what happened to Pete he doesn't.

Ok thanks for clearing that up, I really need to buy the other seasons! If Pete was still around I think he'd be the prime choice for the person who dies. If they kill off Chloe though(Im almost positive they will) I may find it hard to continue to watch the show however. She's my favorite character of the entire show!
Da_Jinx
January 8th, 2006, 11:52 AM
In the comic, Pete and Lana eventually hooks up, get married and have a kid. It would make sense here that it will happen too. So it is unlikely that they would kill off Pete or Lana but everyone else is fair game. As for killing off a character; my money is on Chloe.
Pete will have to eventually get back to Smallville.

It was a really good, emotional episode. It caught me off guard on who died, I would've bet money it would've been chloe. The last 10 minutes was done perfectly, the music, the snow and even the Luthors showing up. Just well done.
Also I bet that heroine, may be a young Wonder Woman. Especially with what's going on in the comics, WW has been becoming more warrior-like and savage.

Couldn't agree more, quality television at it's finest IMO, as for the heroine I doubt that it's WW. They would have to come up with one hell of a plot twist to get her off of Themescara, for some reason I was thinking of Huntress when I saw her, but only time will tell.

I love the show, but I haven't cared too much for some of their adaptations of certain DC characters, so in regards to Doomsday I'm not really sure what to expect. I'm scared that they'll just yank some random wrestler off of Smackdown to fill the role or something.

Doomsday doesn't look that bad. Then again, we've only seen a few glimpses of him.
Never really got into the show, though. I'm never at home when it's playing on TV. I've seen a few episodes here and there. Some are spectacular, others are retarded. I'd say it's a fun show though. Hopefully it'll end soon. Never know, might get another live action Superman series after.

There's only so much you can do with a fullbody suit. You'd have to go CG or be really creative with animatronics and trick photography in order to do Doomsday as his usual Hulk-esque build. Otherwise, this Doomsday looks spot on.

I call bu-wait, by full body, do you mean like with make up effects, or as I'm more used to the term, a Kaiju style suit.
Because if the latter, I call bull.
Reasons?
So many Ultra series its not even funny.
But a reason people HERE would respect?

Give me an example of a film using prosthetic makeup effects featuring a critter as massive and bulky as Doomsday is sometimes drawn. As a bonus, if you do find one, make sure it works as an effective representation. Note, prosthetic effects, not suitmation, which is an entirely different process.

Funny enough, I was thinking of 'im when I made that statement. But again, the way Wink is handled is exactly why a prosthetic suit with Doomsie's traditional proportions wouldn't work, especially given that Smallville is a TV show with a significantly lower budget than Hellboy II.

Wasn't nearly as bad as i expected but still a little disappointing. It was cool to see the Legion in action but then again I was never too familiar with them to begin with.
*Spoilers I guess?*
Turns out Chloe remembers everything! After two whole freaking episodes devoted to and explaining how she would NOT remember Clarks' secret! Yay crappy writing!
And Lana isn't even officially cast in the show anymore and yet she is still causing Clark to have feelings for her.
I think the most true line from the show was "Where's your cape?" Oh well, at least Doomsday appears to still be part of the show. I was worried from the previews that he would just end up being in suspended animation or some such stupid thing.
... Even if he probably won't show up again until the end of the season... ugh.

January 16th, 2009, 05:20 AM
Meh, it's a double edged sword. If it wern't the last season I doubt we would even have Doomsday at all or any of the other things that I am sure is eating into the show's meager budget. It seems that when a show is on its way out or building towards an actual finale(versus just being abruptly cancelled)some shows tend to spend a little more than normal but are still limited in what they can do.
