Wouldn't we have done it by now? Lousy odds IMO. Next!
We've got a few billion years before the sun goes red giant on us. Odds are, we'll get pasted by an asteroid or comet way before any solar problem. That would be a good reason for terraforming.
There's an asteroid out there that will pass within 25,000 miles in 2029. That's a tenth of the distance between ourselves and the moon. We're in a shooting gallery and people are worried about the frigging SUN? Or us nuking everything to death? If you're going to worry, worry about this: if a comet large enough to cause a K-T level extinction event was headed our way we'd have maybe nine months of notice and about all we could do is make peace with our impending demise.

Couldn't we send a rocket up at a comet if it were coming our way? Not to blow it up but to change its course.

Am sure we'll have a weapon to destroy a comet or asteroid heading towards earth.
Anyway the last type of animal that will live on the earth will indeed be the insect. They have simply lived through so much hell that the earth has given itself that they will beable to survive anything. UNLESS the earth completely explodes the insects will rule the world even if they are not smart enough to know it.

Don't have the time to nuke a comet. This kind of thing takes a lot of calculation. And it we nuked it too close, Earth's still screwed.
An asteroid, we'd have enough notice to send up a craft to link up with it and change its course. In fact, the agency dealing with "near Eath objects" wants to do this experimentally in 2015, just so we'll know how it works and be able to do it if we ever need to. Read this in the Washington Post just yesterday, actually. However, their biggest funder, NASA, gives them a whopping $4 million a year, so it's tough.
They don't waste their time worrying about comets. Only about 5% of near-earth objects are comets, and they're next to impossible to see until it's too late to do anything about them. Worrying about comets hitting Earth is a bit like worrying about bullets striking you in a battlefield...it's going to happen whether you want it to or not, so why waste time worrying about it?
That said, it's even sillier to worry about the Sun or a major nuclear war when one's in the distant future and the other is not only unlikely but probably won't damage our planet as much. The only nuclear threat I see in the future is nuclear terrorism, which there's still no real way to prevent except through the constant vigilance of our intelligence service.
(That, and an aggressive campaign to secure loose nukes in the former USSR, but Bush didn't much feel like funding that.)

The last thing they want to do is destroy an asteroid, then we get pelted by debris.
There is a plan to attach a vehicle to an asteroid and redirect it.
Nine months notice of a comet strike = make peace with your gods.

Oddly enough, I started something like this awhile back. The End of the World will happen in 2019 or something like that, according to the Aztec's and the Bible. Neither have been wrong before. So, yeah, I've made peace...somewhat.

Actually, it was the Incas and 2012. The Incan calender stops at 2012, and the Bible code (or something like that) says that the end will come at 2012.
Well, neither of them explicitly say that the world will actually END in 2012, but they both point to something major happening around that time, something that will change the face of the world forever.
And isn't there a meteoroid that may supposedly strike Earth around that time? :darklord:
EDIT: It wasn't the Incan or the Aztecs, it was the Mayans...

There aren't any Bible codes when it comes to predicting the "Rapture."
Revelations says the Rapture could occur a second from now, or 3000 years from now. No dates were specified.
Now hooligans who find "Bible codes" predicting the end of the world are just ignorant of what the Bible really says.

No.
(but one will pass closely in 2029)
