i just recently bought the uncut version of terror of mechagodzilla and in one of the scenes that was cut from the US version two young boys try to get a closer look at titanosaurus. the one boy tries to persuade his friend "ken" from going before reluctantly following and proceding to be brutally STOMPED by Titanosaurus. the name of the one boy "ken" reminded me of "kenny" from the showa Gamera series....i thought that it could be an obscure joke especially since they got stomped. what do you think?

Toho has been taking potshots at Rivals in their movies. Its only gotten worse in the last few years.

Somehow I doubt it, considering Ken (probably short for 'kenichi') is a pretty common name in Japan. Not to mention some of the Gamera kids weren't called kenny in the original versions or the old AIP dubs. The kid in the first Gamera flick was called Toshiro, but was later renamed Kenny for the Sandy Frank versions, which came out in the '80s, I think. As far as I know, there's only one kid in the original seires called Ken, and that's the kid in 'Gamera vs. Zigra'.

and didnt terror come out after zigra? i thought it did. but anyways i just seems awful funny...i mean they DID use the name ken and just the way the boys act immediately reminded me of the gamera series. then they get squished.

I think the names are irrelevant here...
Two stupid kids get close to a kaiju bout and get squashed. Sounds like a jab at Gamera to me.
Also extremely funny.

And keep in mind that Kennies, and especially those who are actually named "Ken," are not uncommon to the Godzilla series either. If memory serves, the boy from GvsH was named "Ken", as was the collage student from GvsD and someone else from one of the three eras... perhaps it ones the one from GXM... I don't remember...
So yeah, the name, as Cole Deschain mentioned, is most likely irrelevent here, as I dought that during 1975 fans of the genre refered to kids in the films as "Kennies", as we do today, much less Toho.
But I do think it's funny. Just goes to show that the G-films were not wholey for the kiddies, but seriously movies. Especially those directed by Honda. I hope to see the uncut version soon.

good points about the name and such...but it just seems they acted a lot like the children from Gamera.
still funny.

The kid in the first Gamera flick was called Toshiro
Wasn't that the Name of the kid in Godzilla's revenge?

No. I think it was Ichiro.

Pretty funny stuff!
'Now kids, don't play with the kaiju!'
'Oh we wont!'
(Splat!)
Sorry, I just got a little carried away there.

Too bad it's a very lame special effect seqence.
The poorly super-imposed Titanosaurus with the city, I mean.
I can see why it got cut. I do prefer the complete, original version.
