Yep, it's one of the big questions. Which series to the citizens of Roostvill enjoy the most? Showa? Maybe. Heisei? Possibly. Millennium? Could be. You decide!
Pick your favorite series and why.
My favorite- The Heisei series. Aside from Godzilla VS Mothra Battle For Earth, I like all of the Heisei films a lot. Cool plots and the monsters are taken seriously. Plus never before seen kaiju! Good stories ranging from the return of an atomic horror, time travel, even intergalactic evil, all in one single series which have all of the films are connected to another.
Lets try to get everyone in this so I can get a better total.:D
PS-Sorry if this is against the rules or has been done before.

Showa gets my vote. For me it's alot of nostalgia and memories from my childhood. Remembering the first Goji film I ever saw(Destroy All Monsters) and having a total spastic fit when I saw the gathering of what looked to me like super juiced up dinosaurs and bugs ganging up on a three headed dragon. Slowly but surely getting my rare oportunities to see the rest of the showa series films on TV(which back in the mid 80's without satelite or cable was rare indeed:crazy: ). The thrill of tracking down the showa films on home video one by one, as well as discovering other showa non-Goji kaiju films along the way. Yeah, showa all the way.

I feel the same way about the original series as Mecha74, though at the same time I coudn't choose.
You see, being a fan of Godzilla and most all things Goji-related, I love each era of films in a special way and for different reasons. Overall, I just simply do not have a favorite series, just certain movies I perfer over others.
For instance, as Mecha74 mentioned, the Showa series will always have a special place in kaiju eiga history. It's what started it all, and often contains the best films from any kaiju series, espcially those made before 1969, during the Golden Age. In fact, I often find certain kaiju battles, like Godzilla's against Mothra, and city destruction scenes, like those casued by Goji, Ghidorah and Rodan, much more impressive then many nowaday films. The Showa series really were A-Class films when they were made fifty years ago; just seeing what people like Eiji Tsuburaya were able to do on film with what they had to work with was amazing. And, I suppose, if it ment my life, I'd likely choose Showa as my favorite series. But it's not. None of them are. I love them all the same for different reasons.
The Heisei Series also holds a special place in my heart; they are a much more darker and serious thread of movies, each one working off past films. The kaiju are awesome and the music could be said to be the best in all the series, and they often sport great SFX. And films like G84 especially mean a lot to me. I have great childhood memories sitting back and watching with great joy these films as I discovered them one-by-one on video. And some years ago I may have gone as far as to say that this series is my favorite. But it's not.
Ever since G2000-GXM I've been following very closely with each new edition to the Shinsei era, checking all the incoming-info and rumors and toys. And now that it has ended too so quickly, I can look back and enjoy the films in general. Each one was really so diferent from the last that it gives much to offer to those of different tastes; do you like spooky and eerie kaiju flicks? GMK! Do you perfer the stright-foreward don't-think-about-it action film? GXM! Do love those senseless fighting scenes and non-stop action? GFW!
So, There is something I love from every series and thus I really could never choose just ONE as my all-time favorite. Therefore, in the end, I love all the movies; just some more then others.:)

I like all of them but I have to say Heisei. That was the series that surprised me the most because it was quite different from the Showa. I used to watch the Showa movies when I was little but when I saw my first Heisei one I was surprised. Godzilla vs. Biollante and Godzilla vs. Mothra are my favorites!!

I have to agree with everything Gojira2000 said! Every series is special in its own way. The Showa series was what started it all and also had some of the really fun fights with many of the kaiju we've come to love!
The Heisei, unlike the Showa, followed with a continuity timeline, making the series interesting. Also, it gave us some of the most powerful and awe-inspiring kaiju in the whole franchise!
The Shinsei series was its own entity as well. With the exception of GxMG and GMMG, every film was seperate from the last; giving way for some interesting ideas. It also had some colorful FX and kaiju battles.
I hate to choose which series I like the most because I like them all. Many people know what kind of Godzilla movies I love and ones that I find, meh. But with the series coming to end, and being at an end for a while, I am rediscovering that some of the films I find, meh, I am now starting to find a lot of charm in. Many of you know that I found GxM to be the "worst" of the Shinsei era. Well, after watching it again here not too long ago, I actually asked myself, "Why did I think such a thing?" The film is entertaining. I am finding qualities in many of the films.
Even though I like them all, I have to go with the Showa. Not because it started it all, but the first Godzilla film I ever saw, Godzilla Vs. The Sea Monster, is a Showa film. And many Godzilla films I saw after that were Showa films and most of those have become my favorites. Part of it has to do with sentimentality, but another reason is that the Showa era is so much fun!

Same here. Now, I wouldn't go off and say the Godzilla Raids Again is the best movie; by no means. Nonetheless, I love that film! And mostly because it was the first I owned, and likely the first I saw from start to finish, and over the years I grew up loving it. At the same time, I spent several years of my life looking for a GvsSG movie. One day I found, and I was so excited it was insane. I hated after the first watch  Okay, I don't HATE it (as I don't "hate" any G-film), but it's my least favorite of the Heisei films and one of my least favorite of all. So it differs from picture to picture.

Showa
Heisei & Shinsei just don't give you the sense of fun & enjoyment that you do with the Showa films. I also liked the idea that Godzilla was more than just a lumbering brute, they actually made him more of a character than just some big dumb monster. I especially liked the interaction between the monsters, something that was missing especially from the Heisei films.

KS just basically sums up why I voted for the Showa series. Not that I didn't enjoy the other two eras, but Showa went the distance and made the monsters into characters with personality rather than just special effect or "creature of the week", even if many found the result "cheesey."

Heisei.
I enjoyed the Showa stuff as a kid, and it still resonates with me... but Heisei just blows it away.
The dubs <shudder> are better, the scripts make a little bit more sense (No. Don't mention Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. No. Please! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!), the suits make more sense, and the portrayal of Goji is a lot closer to the roots of the character.
The shinsei series has not, for the most part, impressed me overmuch.

Showa, easily.
The series that started it all and it still remains the greatest, at least to me.
The showa series is, as of what we've seen yet, the longest running out of all three series and becuase of that features the most kaiju and the most different facets of Godzilla, portraying him in a lot of different ways while the other two series stuck with one or a few different ways.
Anyway, no matter what new Godzilla film they'll release in the future, none can surpass the feeling I felt when I first watched Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla(-74)late night on Christmas Eve. Ooh, those were good times...

Heisei :meltdown::meltdown::meltdown:
Godzilla Vs. Destoroyah is the best kaiju film in all time in my point of view. I also think that the Heisei series had the best plots, acting, and monsters.

Showa easily. Hell the original Gojira is the greatest film of the entire series and one of the greatest pieces of cinema of all time. Plus the diversity of the Era gives it another chip on it's shoulders.
Heisei was good but I could never get over the awesome effects in Godzilla vs. Biollante. Though the continuity was good throughout the series and it stuck close together and there has been only one "bad" film of the series in my opinion (coughGvs.SG).
Shinsei is the most disappointing, the only films I have liked are Godzilla 2000 for it's camp value and GMK for it's edginess but even that film was a disappointment because of the contrived ending and I don't even have the desire to see GFW.

I am a Heisei fan my self. It had great new kaiju like Destroyah and revived the more popular kaiju from the Showa era like Rodan and King Ghidorah. The plot stuck together through the movies, and I get a lot more out of the Hesiei series than the Showa or Millenium.

this one is tough for me. i love all the series.
i almost chose heisei for several reasons. 1)godzilla never looked better than in the heisei series the design was just perfect. 2) my favorite kaiju movie is in the heisei series
but the heisei series had its downfalls. it had two REALLY strong entries in 1985 and Biollante (my previously mentioned favorite kaiju film EVER). but dropped off SEVERELY with GvsKG which i consider to be the worst entry to the series. G&M:BFE was good but the following two were lackluster (although i dont find gvssg NEARLY as bad as everyone else does) but it finished out strong with destoroyah. a great series of movies but some could have been better.
the millenium series im fond of as well. kool new kaiju in orga and megaguirus as well as some returning favorites. but the millenium films didnt have much soul to them. they lacked something in the emotion department.
soooooooo it all goes back to showa which gets my vote for favorite series. it started it all it introduced us to SO many great stories and monsters...the first g movie i ever saw was gvsmegalon and i was hooked ever since.

Definantly Showa. Has my favorite Monsters, movies, andthe first Goji movies I watched were showa films. The Heisei Films were pretty good (Mothra, Space Goji, and Mec ha Goji were kinda bad), the Millenium series has benn good, besides G X M.

That's a tough one to call. I really like the greatly improved special effects in the Millenium series but I grew up on the Showa Series, which was the driving force behind my affection for Godzilla, and other genre like Ultraman and giant monster movies in general. My vote goes to the Showa series. :)

Overall I'd say I like the Showa series best. It was just such a fun series, anything could happen in it. Even the more serious films (barring the orginal) had some kind of humor thrown in somewhere. Plus it was the series that started it all and I tend to be a sucker for the orginals...
I've also yet to see a Godzilla film that I've enjoyed as throughly as Terror of Mechagodzilla.
Heisei had some good points. Past G '85, I don't think Godzilla ever looked better. There was no denying the sheer power he had. He didn't even need to fight to show it. Godzilla's very presence just imparted it to the viewer. They tried doing the same thing in the Shinsei era, but I don't think they did it nearly as well as Heisei did.
Plus Godzilla vs Destroyah is the only G flick that really tugged at my heartstrings...
Shinsei benefited and suffered from trying to do too many different things. As a result the whole series seems kinda lackluster. To me they were like Star Trek movies in reverse: every odd numbered one was good. I enjoyed Godzilla 2000, GMK, and SOS, but I wasn't taken by Godzilla vs Megagurius or Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla. I've yet to see Final Wars, but my expectations aren't that high.
So, Showa kicks butt, followed closely by Heisei, and Shinsei brings up the rear. :)

Heisei. Like everyone else says, its dark, serious, has a brilliant beginning and a climactic ending.
I dont really like the millenium series. The fact that every film doesnt follow the other just makes me not care about the featured Goji's.

Showa. Each monster had a unique personality that easily seperated them from eachother. Plus my first Kaiju film was from the showa era (GvsMG).
