What if the Mysterians were just some Ozymandias-style plot to unite the world and possibly end the threat of nuclear annihilation? That thought just... hit me as I finally got to watch it recently.
It has the makings of such a plot, a grand scheme to bring the cold war-gripped world together against a common threat. Mysterious aliens appear, wiping out a town in the process, who just so happen to have hydrogren bombs too, having suffered a nuclear war that destroyed their once peaceful planet and now wish to take a new world as their own. But despite the fact that they have advanced technology, (supposedly having such science and whatnot back when we were in our Neolithic Age) they still are able to be beaten by a people who they should've rightfully trounced.
Just sounds like, with a few tweaks, it could've been made into some grand scheme to trick the world into putting aside petty differences against a powerful common foe. Did the Mysterians really escape to a space station... or just flee to Switzerland to ditch their costumes?
