Annihilation
Another big mega event at Marvel is the super-cool epic "Annihilation" crossover series. Starring a large cast consisting of some of Marvel's biggest space/galactic characters. Like the Silver Surfer, Galactus, Drax the Destroyer, the Super-Skrull, Nova, Thanos, Quasar, and Ronan the Accuser. A regular "Who's Who?" of Marvel's Cosmic/Space characters.
What's cool is how they've re-invented/re-invigorated ol' Annihilus into an honest to god serious threat once more. This has been one of my favorite events so far in the world of Marvel. It's also interesting seeing some of these characters, some of whom aren't the most "noble" or "virtuous" of characters, having to come together and face this threat.
The only downside to this, for me, is the lack of "Beta Ray Bill-age." It'd so rock to see ol' Horseface back in action and bludgeoning baddies. :P *loved the "Stormbreaker" series*

Re: Annihilation
I do want to read Issue 1, but I have heard that the 4 mini's that tied into the main event weren't that good, save for Nova's.

Re: Annihilation
They were pretty good, IMHO and they all tie into the main story in some way.
At this point, unless you wanna doll out the cash for the issues, I'd suggest waiting till everything was put into paperback collections.

Marvel has other plans for BRB.
For example, he's in Omega Flight, which comes out in 2007.

Re: Annihilation
Well, the U.S. heroes having the temerity to clone THor might get Bill annoyed enough to set up shop nearby....
Also, Mike Oeming, who both gave Bill his push to fame and is slated to write Omega Flight, mentions that he built something into Bill's backstory that can be used to justify putting him just about anywhere,,,

Re: Annihilation
Well this keeps on getting interesting. This series is getting nothing but more cooler and intriguing with each issue.
Ok, some background info for those who don't know...
Annihilation deals with a large scale, and highly destructive, campaign of total war across the known Marvel Cosmos, led by the Negative Zone warlord, Annihilus.
It has, so far, proved devastating for the currently fragile Kree and Skrull empires, and has managed to almost totally wipe out all but one of the Nova Corps. It shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.
Now it's up to a coalition, a United Front, to try and put a stop to this "Annihilation Wave," which so far seems to be completely unstoppable.
-The Battle Lines-------------------
-The "United Front"-
-Richard Rider, the last Nova Corps Centurian (leader)
-------------------------------
-Drax the Destroyer
-Ronan the Accuser
-Super-Skrull
-Phyla-Vell, current "Captain Marvel"
-Gamora, the "Most Dangerous Woman in the Universe"
-Peter Quill, (formally known as "Star Lord")
-Former Heralds of Galactus:
-Stardust
-Firelord
-Red Shift
-A good portion of the Kree Empire, as well as thousands of warriors and survivors of this Annihilation Wave.
-The Annihilation Wave:
-Annihilus (leader)
-------------------------------
-Thanos (an ally) and his sidekick "Skeet"
-Ravenous, leader of Annihilus' "Seekers"
-Terrax, ex-herald of Galactus (not by choice, being controlled against his will)
-Paibok the Power Skrull
-A coalition of over 100 super-powered beings from the Negative Zone, called the "Centaurians"
-A nearly in-exhaustible legion of insectoid monsters and soldiers
-Tenebrous and Aegis, "Galactus-level beings" (very powerful)
This has potential to be one of the better megaevents in Marvel's History. I highly recommend it.

Re: Annihilation
Yeah, and it's been mentioned a few times about the possibilities of when this Annihilation Wave hits Earth.
One is that even if they, the superheroes, are able to mount a defense, it would eventually fall to the Wave.
the other one is that, due to the Civil War, Earth would be caught completely off guard and not even able to mout a good counterattack should the Wave hit.

Re: Annihilation
One of the things coming out of ANNIHILATION that will be an ongoing Nova series writeen by the mini's authors, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, which will chronicle the continuing adventure of the last Nova Centurion. And will definitly address his return to Earth, and his reaction to the events of The Civil War.

Re: Annihilation
Heres some info on the upcoming plans for the aftermath of the ANNIHILATION and those who survive it from the book's writer, Kieth Giffen. http://ww.newsaram.com/marvelnew/ann...on/Giffen.html
And Super Angillas, to answer your question about why the heros of Earth haven't learned about the billions upon billions being wiped out, I don't think any of Nova's forces have even tried to make contact with Earth as of yet. The Shi"ar were contacted ,but don't want to get involved unless it directly threatens them. And besides they have thier own trouble with Vulcan in the pages of Uncanny X-Men at the moment. So it might be learned of there by the X-Men.

Or it may just be the Deus ex Machina that Marvel needs to undo all the severed ties in Civil War...

Eh, debatable.
I like the idea of Speedball becoming a new Captain.

Re: Annihilation
Man this new version of Drax is a badass. Takes on a whole legion of Annihilation Insects by himself.
Also, it seems his never-ending conflict/relationship with Thanos might be over, or at least at an interesting development.
Which may be bad news for the rest of us. :P
Annihilation is one hell of a read.

Sweetness.
Though, I know she has been for a while, when did Death become female again? After Secret Wars II, Death was a guy. When did it switch back over?

I think its as simple as a retcon. They've already retconned a bunch of stuff, including some of Galactus' backstory.

Well, it was a girl again before Annihilation. I just don't know when they switched over.
Because I thought it was pretty cool how Beyonder killed Death, then made that one guy death in order for their be Death again.

Re: Annihilation
Yeah I think Annihilus is gonna get a big cosmic-powered ***-whoopin' from the "Purple Planet Eater."
I'm almost more interested in what's going to become of those other two "Galactus-Level" beings that were introduced in Annihilation.
I just wish they'd bring out the last issue already. :P
