Halomek is heading in the right direction.
Thumbs Up Kaiju Apocalypse Returns!

Consider this thread testing the waters because it’s been so long since I’ve been back here and the fanfic section has changed quite a bit on me in that time. I assume this would be the right place to post this…

Anyway, on to the real point of this thread. For those who remember (and those who don’t), I was in the process of writing a fanfic called Kaiju Apocalypse back in the day, before the forums had their major upgrade to kaijuphile. Since they don’t like you posting anything but completed stories here, the fanfic disappeared once the new upgrade went into effect because it wasn’t completed.

Now Kaiju Apocalypse still isn’t completed, but it’s nearing a point and length where I think I can put the first act into a book (roughly 75 pages in Word). Even for those who may have read KA back when it was still up, you’ll find it much improved over the original version, namely a more solid plot and more characterization which were two things I knew it was having problems with even back then.

As a taste of things to come, let’s take a glimpse at a few of the main concepts and characters:

Concepts:

Showa/Heisei Mix: KA is a hybrid of the Heisei and Showa eras. The monsters are Heisei sized, but for the most part the technology and events of the Showa series are in place (a much underused time in fanfics in my opinion). A few elements of the Kong mythos are also thrown in to round things out. It might seem complicated, but I’ve taken pains to see that it all fits.

M-Watch: Created by the United Nations to counter the threat kaiju pose, M-Watch (short for Monster Watch) is the first and last line of defense the world has against kaiju attacks. Faced with the seeming indestructibility of kaiju around the world, they are well-funded and have almost full autonomy to act when a kaiju threatens the peace of the world.

The Kaiju Defender Project: Instituted by the U.S. division of M-Watch, the Kaiju Defender project is meant to create a kaiju that will be at the government’s beck and call when the Earth (and especially America) is threatened by an evil kaiju. Essentially, it’s there to fill the need for a kaiju defender that is more timely and reliable than other good kaiju like Mothra and Godzilla. After all, the U.S. can only wait so long for Godzilla to cross the ocean and fight for them.

Characters:

Hikaru Chen: A brilliant scientist who in enthralled when it comes to the world of kaiju. He has dedicated his life to understanding how they function and how they can exist. His knowledge of genetic engineering has been an enormous help in M-Watch’s Kaiju Defender project.

Saeko Chen: The daughter of Hikaru Chen, Saeko loves everything about the world of kaiju. She seems to have a special intuitiveness when it comes to the giant monsters and frequently amazes everyone around her with her solid insight.

Max Adams: The son of famous astronaut Glenn Adams (of Monster Zero fame), Max has an intense dislike of all kaiju; feeling that even the so-called good kaiju like Mothra are more trouble than they’re worth. He hates the idea of depending on them to save the Earth time and time again. He currently works for the U.S. division of M-Watch, helping to stamp out any and all giant monster/kaiju incursions.

Lord Centaurus: The evil mastermind determined to bring about the full-scale destruction of Earth (the apocalypse of the title), Centaurus belongs to a powerful alien race known as the Demions who subjugate other races to do their bidding. With the repeated failures of their “vassals” to conquer the Earth in the past, he has decided it is time to take a personal hand in eliminating this thorn in his side we call Earth.

Arashi: A kaiju genetically engineered by Hikaru Chen from cells taken from King Ghidorah, Arashi has incredible power and intelligence at his disposal, but the evil he has inadvertently inherited from his “father” Ghidorah is something he is always in conflict with. Created to be a defender of humanity, Arashi instead feels nothing but contempt for those he is supposed to protect, choosing instead to defend the Earth in spite of humanity. With the expert manipulation by Lord Centaurus of the Earth’s other kaiju, Arashi just might be the key to either saving the Earth or destroying it.

---

Of course Godzilla and all of the other kaiju who made an appearance in the Showa era are in there (as well as some Heisei). With a history as convoluted and contradicting as the one Toho made for the Showa era, putting it all together and taking it all apart has become quite the epic.
Look for Kaiju Apocalypse: The Storm to be showing up on these forums very soon.

And if you just can't wait, I'd suggest taking a look at my kaiju redos to get an idea of the monsters that populate my little tale. http://www.kaijuphile.com/forums/showthread.php?t=888
