Default Final Wars takes place over a years time? *WATCH OUT FOR RAMPANT SPOILERS*

When the Xillians first introduce Gorath, the leader says that Gorath will reach Earth in just over 11,000 hours. Well, 11,000 hours is roughly 460 days, well over a year.

By the end of the movie Gorath is pretty fricking close to Earth. Does that mean that Godzilla took over a year to make his trek to Tokyo, or did the Xillians speed up Goraths rate of travel or what?

Or is it just bad dubbing?

The meteor at the end of the movie was not Gorath.

Gorath was proven to be nothing more than a hologram not long after the Xilians lied about its existence. The much smaller meteor at the end of the film was just a transport for Monster X.

It's just another example of the sloppy storytelling in GFW... the filmmakers introduce a red meteor, have it be a fake, and then bring in another red meteor but don't bother to explain what it is or that its not the first meteor.

KPA is right. The only way you can tell the real meteor isnt Gorath is that it doesnt blow up the Earth. If it was Gorath, it would have blown it to peices. And even if it diddnt, it DEFINATLY would have killed Godzilla, along with every thing in Japan. The smaller one was just the transport for Monster X, which I just remembered is a really neat rememberance of Ghidrah, The Three Headed Monster, because Ghidrah came in a meteor too.

We all have to realize too, that if the meteor was actually in fact Gorath, it would have destroyed the entire Earth. They did state that the planet was Gorath, and a planet is certainly more distinguishable than a meteor. So MX's meteor was a lot smaller, as some people have stated.

Actually I think it was shown quite clearly that the meteorite was for Monster X. After Godzilla brings down Gigan, the X-Seijin leader says to Captain Gordon "I am your enemy. And Godzilla's enemy is THIS ONE!" He points up and then there is a shot of the meteorite coming down, indicating that Godzilla's greatest enemy is in there. I was confused about the Gorath and Monster X meteorite thing when I saw GFW without subtitles... but it became obvious when saw it with them.

Gorath was shown to be fake hologram in the dialouge.

Did you see a fan sub? The subtitles created by Toho were " I'll deal with you. And Godzilla will deal with... this!" Same general idea, but more vague without the "Godzilla's enemy" stuff.

My complaint about the sloppy storytelling wasn't that it was hard to figure out Monster X came from the meteor (the meteor explodes, X drops from the sky... you don't need to be a rocket scientist to put 2 and 2 together) but that the story introduces an idea, drops it almost immediately, the brings in almost the same idea, but doesn't tie it together. The whole thing could have been easily streamlined.

As it is now, the whole Gorath plot is pretty meaningless. The Xilians use it to convince two people of their friendly intentions, then they immediately take those two people hostage and replace them with imposters. Takarada then gives a speech at the UN to unite everyone to combat the threat and join with the Xilians (but that goes nowhere), then the heroes figure out that the Xilians lied about Gorath but they don't bother to alert the media and galvanize international forces.

From talking to people who worked on the film I know the original idea was that the Xilians would give the earth coordinates in space for Gorath's location, the earth forces would fire all the weapons into space, and then they would be defenseless against the Xilian invasion. I think that would have been a great story idea, but all of that was whittled down to basically nothing.

It was the Video Daikaiju subtitles.
They always tend to "translate" everything in their own special way.

I think the storyline for GFW would have been better without the X-Seijins:

Monsters go around attacking the world.
The world is reduced to ashes.
Gotengo unleashes Godzilla.
And then the story writes itself.

Would it have been alot more interesting if GFW would have been two movies instead of one? Everything would be much slower if you would, like the monster fights would be longer and plotholes would come together much much easier.

that was the plan
they wanted to gather earths definces in one spot so they could shoot at the meteor...i suppose the plan was; after they emptyed the ammo the x-aliens would then whipe them out leaving the earth helpless...but the x-alien commander got found out and his underling killed him.... thus scrapping that idea... but neo had figured out that gorath was fake anyways

You should have been in Kitamura's ear during pre-production. Could have told him to leave out the mutants and the blantant rip off of other films and this movie could have been alright.

The blame for this Matrix storyline (which resulted in Star Wars, Independence Day, etc. rip-offs) shouldn't be completely put on Ryuhei Kitamura, however. I'm pissed at that stupid producer (can't remember his name) because he started the whole "Godzilla movie for the Matrix generation!" idea. Ryuhei Kitamura just took it way too far, just like I think he did by having 15 monsters in GFW instead of the planned 8.

Taking the Matrix thing too far = less kaiju screentime
Having 15 monsters in the movie = less kaiju screentime

Toho's original kaiju films +
Matrix inspired X-Seijin/mutant action and storyline +
dash of rip-offs of Sci-fi classics +
the addition of the "talented" Kitamura's style +
the whole sloppy mess being thrown on the screen
=
GFW.

Wow. Please write more reviews my old friend, this one may be short but daaaaag-gum is it sweet. Youve hit the nail on the head. I will admit though, the first time I saw this movie, I liked it. But ofcourse the two times I watched it afterwards allowed for annalasys....thats when it sucked....

GAH!

I think people need to lighten up on their rough analyses on movies like these ones. Hey, we got a 50th anniversary film, we should all be satisfied! Yes, the movie isn't perfect, then again nothing is. I think we should just accept it for the way it is and be happy.

So we should be happy with a half assed pile of rip off poor excuse for a movie, just because we got it for the 50th anniversary?

That makes no sense whatsoever. The movie should have been WAAAY better than it was, and what we got showed a blatant disregard to the current fans by trying to cater to newer fans that didn't exist.

No, I'm not happy about what we got, and there is no reason why I should be, the movie was half assed for big G's 50th Anniversary, and he didn't deserve it.

AMEN TO THAT! Saying we should be happy with G:FW despite it being a pile of kitty feces is like saying "Hey, who cares if Sci-Fi Channel gives us lousy movies? At least they're giving us something."

OMG! You know they might as well stop making G-Films if they ever see this pitiful reaction! Every G-movie that is made, people always have to whine and complain about it. Who cares, what's done is done. It is just a movie! Can't you think of one have way decent thing to say about it. We are not judges, judging a competition or something.

That last line, which I bolded, is one of the lamest things I've heard in a long time. If we are "not judges", then we can't say anything about any movie, regardless of whether what we have to say is good or bad. We might as well just remain absolutely silent about every movie that has ever been made if we believed the sort of nonsense you just spewed.

Frankly, I'm not going to lie and pretend I like a movie that I hated just to be "nice" to the talentless hacks that made the movie.

The problem is that everyone can't stop looking for negative flaws to a movie instead of just once looking for a positive quality. There is more to this world than negativety, I see some flaws in GFW but I don't go out of my way to downgrade the movie to the point where it prevents people from wanting to watch it. It is not that bad, the special effects are great, the monsters are great, the characters and their acting was great. The only downside I could ever think of is the musical score and the monster screen-time.

To tell you the truth, there was hardly anything that I actually liked about this movie. The cool designs for some of the monsters (especially Godzilla, Gigan, and Manda) were about the only thing for me. Otherwise, I think this may have been the worst G film in a long time. I hated the so-called "plot", I hated the "music", I hated the brief monster battles, and I hated all the Matrix-inspired fights. And, I'm not afraid to admit this.

I used to be.

I WANTED to love Godzilla: Final Wars, but the fact that it sucks makes that impossible. Oh sure there are some good things about the movie... like good special effects sequences such as that 2 second shot of the airplane that was not even necessary and the money on that good shot could have been spent on the MONSTERS. A small amount of money went to the monsters other then the suits being constructed, and that is painfully obvious on screen. Where did the budget go? On the uneccessary stuff. Location shooting, Xian/mutant choreography, etc.

And nobody start this "there is more to a film than SFX!" crap.
Because in this movie, there wasn't.

Bummer the SFX sucked too.
